Welcome

[edit]

Hello Peruvianllama, welcome to Wikipedia.

You might find these links helpful: How to edit a page, How to write a great article, Naming conventions, Manual of Style. You should read our policies at some point too.

If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump, or ask me on my talk page. I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian!

  • You can introduce yourself on the new user log.
  • You can find lots more information, including open tasks and daily tips, at the community portal.
  • You can sign your name using three tildes, like this: ~~~. If you use four, you can add a datestamp as well.
  • Before saving a page, it's a good idea to use the Show preview button to review your edits. Also, consider writing a summary for each edit.

Again, welcome! Chris Roy 02:00, 28 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Hi, Peruvianllama. Don't let them get you down, they are but children at play. The best advice is possibly don't take their bait, but I think you get high marks already on that score. They seem to have drifted off for now, but no doubt they'll be back. You've encountered a hazard of allowing anon IPs to edit pages. Best regards. --RobertGtalk 08:42, 5 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Yes, it is getting tiresome, isn't it? - you don't need to put up with this abuse. I went to their talk page to give them a final warning notice, only to find another admin had already done so. They still persisted, so I blocked them for a while. I trust that their threats about DHCP and multiple IP addresses were bluster, if not we'll know! Well done for staying calm and polite. --RobertGtalk 08:46, 6 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I suspect that your policy idea is actually one that would require a development in the underlying Wiki software, but suggest it by all means. I'm not sure which policy: try Wikipedia talk:Protection policy? My only reservation is that it would be just as easy for a vandal to create a new user ID as to get another IP address, although I believe there is an "automatic IP block" feature when an admin blocks a user (I still have to get my head round that one). And I don't mind in the least that you listed the problem elsewhere; they've proved more persistent than I expected, and it seems it will take more than one of us to keep reverting their "contributions" so that they drift away in boredom… I quite understand that you were fed up with their personal attacks. Regards. --RobertGtalk 08:37, 7 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

read the discussion page, and do some work. (preceding unsigned comment by 24.205.51.127 (talk · contribs) 21:36, 9 October 2005)

Please see whether the current cleanup would be sufficient for you to withdraw the delete vote. Thanks, Tintin 01:22, 10 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, it's not a {{nn-bio}}, because that only applies to people, not to sub shops. I think this one will have to go to AfD, which I am just too tired to do myself right now. Keep up the vigilance!. Ëvilphoenix Burn! 03:24, 11 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Cool, glad to see it on AfD. Personally I wouldn't have gone ahead with the redirect...while you were correct in the proper name for the article, since the article is likely to be deleted, it's probbably easier to just nominate it in it's incorrectly named form, that way you don't have both the article and the redirect hanging around. That way, if it survives AfD, you can go ahead and make the page move, and if not, it all goes away easier. If the article doesn't survive AfD, I suggest you then list the redirect on RfD (or see if that makes it fit a CSD, I'm not really sure). Carry on with the good work! Please use Move tab instead of cut&paste

[edit]

Since there was only one tiny edit, it's not a real big deal in this case, but if you ever run into something like Firestone Library again, that you think should be at a different name (in this case Harvey S. Firestone Memorial Library), PLEASE use the Move tab instead of cut&pasting the content--c&p separates the content contributions from their history (as well as the Talk page if one exists) and they need to stay together per GFDL licence terms. Thanks. 24.17.48.241 06:11, 23 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hm, I thought I had used the non-move-tab option correctly. Obviously, I'll have to read the instructions more carefully next time. Thanks for the notice. --Peruvianllama 06:49, 23 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

David Wong votes for deletion

[edit]

Peruvianllama, I appreciated your comments, but a way to reply is always courteous. One thing about the David Wong article, this was not just a simple vanity case, but an elaborate web of deception and self-promotion. Checking the Amazon page, we find glowing reviews of David Wong from people like...Joseph Wong (a relative?)...children...a girl whom he met on a plane...a 14-year-old kid...who claimed to not have met David personally despite stating otherwise earlier in the review. When it comes down to it, David Wong appears to have achieved marginalized fame, not for talent, but for relentless self-promotion. Ironically I could easily start my own page, having written 3 books, appeared on National Public Radio, etc. But I wait until someone else finds me important. Thanks for making my mind up on this wikilink. I wasn't sure whether to include it or now. It seemed like a common phrase, but then again I doubted the importance of wiki-ing it. Good to get a second opinion. Cnwb 09:35, 11 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

sup & small tags

[edit]

Say I've fixed a few messes caused due to mismatched sup & small tags. If you're gonna use 'em use 'em right :-) If you put <small> dadada... </small> you end up with a mess and the small font is left on. The tags must be nested properly <small> dadada... </small> or they don't work. Cheers! Vsmith 00:00, 15 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

OK - seems the problem showed up because HTML Tidy has been disabled. See note at Wikipedia:Village pump. So now all the incorrectly tagged HTML shows up as errors or is ignored. If tags are improperly nested, some won't get "turned off". The solution: good HTML :-) That was the problem with Physchem...s fancy post on my talk, that you fixed - thanks. Seems several users are having the same problem with their fancy sigs. Enjoy! Vsmith 01:28, 15 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

To the unintentional tag team! <clinks glasses> I'll have to start using {{blanking}}. I've always used {{test2a}}, but that one's quite a bit better. All right, back to work. See ya, Blackcap | talk 07:36, 17 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

An Award
I award you... the Editor's Barnstar!

You have 1000 contributions from the past 16 days, almost all of them reverting vandalism. That's (1/8 is 0.125, so 1/8 of 1000 is 125, and half of that, 1/16, is 62.5) 62.5 reversions per day! I didn't know you could even revert half a page in the first place! Excellent job, and keep up the great work! — MATHWIZ2020 TALK

Hi Peruvianllama,

Thank you very much for your support on my RfA. I was both surprised and delighted about the amount of support votes and all the kind words! If I can ever help with anything or if you have any comments about my actions as an admin, please let me know! Regards, JoanneB 15:45, 21 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I want to thank you for the article you created. We already have Boris Yegorov, Aleksandr Yegorov, and now Dmitry Yegorov. I just thought it helpful to standartize the spelling of this surname. By the way, a disambiguation page would be helpful too. Hope to see more articles from you. By the way, your name and signature put me in a good mood ;) --Ghirlandajo 21:35, 21 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thank you very much for helping stop vandalism of the article RuneScape cheats. The company that makes RuneScape is now trying to get the article deleted by official means. Please comment on the talk page so they can't delete it.Jonathan888 (talk) 15:26, 22 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks for your comment, there is a rather long 'vote for removal' section in the discussion page - it hasn't moved to the AfD phase yet. I shot off a whole slew of messages this morning to try to get some support and the editors replying to that call for help suggested moving parts of the article to book format which sounds ok to me.Jonathan888 (talk) 19:15, 22 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for destroying hours of my work in the name of stopping vandalism.
