Saying that the name Amir is made up of a prefix a- and the verb root mir- is an obvious pseudo-etymology. I can imagine that a native Persian speaker can feel it that way, but there is no source for this etymology, neither in the English, nor the Perisan version of the article. On the other hand, a source is given for the Arabic etymology of this name. Therefore, in short, the name is of Arabic origin, and the explanation of its Persian meaning seems to be a bit of a myth.
