Hi. Thank you for linking the image and adding link to the image I uploaded. No wonder they always want to delete my "orphaned pictures" because I didn't link them to the article. Well, thank you very much :) ♥, calliegal_x (talk) 00:47, 24 April 2008 (UTC)Calliegal[reply]

Oh, okay, thanks in advance. And do you know how to fix redirects. Like for some pages, if you don't type with capitalizing for the first letter, it doesn't go to the page. How can you fix that? ♥, calliegal_x (talk) 01:12, 24 April 2008 (UTC)Calliegal[reply]
It depends; what is the page you want the search to go to and what is it doing now? Maybe something like #REDIRECT [[Burning Up Tour]] but I need to know more. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) 01:21, 24 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:And Eternity cover.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

PLOT

[edit]

I've seen you say this a few times on WT:NOT, but I don't think you've seen any of my replies. Basically you said that WP:PLOT doesn't allow for LOEs or lists of characters, but this isn't so. I know this for certain because it's one of the reasons I made a specific proposal (which gained support) to have WP:PLOT say per topic rather than per article. -- Ned Scott 06:29, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

We're getting there, thanks in part to people like you. It's kind of silly to worry about one or two words on a giant page, but I guess I still do. The part that worries me is the part in IINFO that says "current consensus is that Wikipedia articles are not simply... plot summaries." It's then toned down a sentence or two later that they are "appropriate as part of the larger coverage of a fictional work." "Larger coverage" is pretty ambiguous. Basically we're saying WP (maybe single WP articles, maybe groups) are not simply a plot summary, they're a bunch of OOU info on subjects that pass NOTE, with an included concise plot summary. I don't see why one couldn't nominate an LOE or LOC that doesn't have references and say the main article has the plot summary, and the article fails NOTE and PLOT. I may be missing something, of course. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) 06:53, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, you do make a good point there. -- Ned Scott 07:00, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Request for Peer Review help

[edit]

Thank you for you work as a peer review volunteer. Since March, there has been a concerted effort to make sure all peer review requests get some response. Requests that have gone three days or longer without a substantial response are listed at Wikipedia:Peer review/backlog. I have three requests to help this continue.

1) If you are asked to do a peer review, please ask the person who made the request to also do a review, preferably of a request that has not yet had feedback. This is fairly simple, but helps. For example when I review requests on the backlog list, I close with Hope this helps. If my comments are useful, please consider peer reviewing an article, especially one at Wikipedia:Peer review/backlog (which is how I found this article). Yours, ...

2) While there are several people who help with the backlog, lately I have been doing up to 3 or 4 peer reviews a day and can not keep this up much longer. We need help. Since there are now well over 100 names on the PR volunteers page, if each volunteer reviewed just one PR request without a response from the list each month, it would easily take care of the "no response" backlog. To help spread out the load, I suggest those willing pick a day of the month and do a review that day (for example, my first edit was on the 8th, so I could pick the 8th). Please pick a peer review request with no responses yet, if possible off the backlog list. If you want, leave a note on my talk page as to which day you picked and I will remind you each month.

3) I have made some proposals to add some limits to peer review requests at Wikipedia_talk:Peer_review#Proposed_limits. The idea is to prevent any one user from overly burdening the process. These seem fairly reasonable (one PR request per editor per day, only four total PR requests per editor at a time, PR requests with cleanup banners can be delisted (like GAN quick fail), and wait two weeks to relist a PR request after it is archived), but have gotten no feedback in one week. If you have any thoughts on these, please weigh in.

Thanks again for your help and in advance for any assistance with the backlog. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 21:12, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hwang Jin-i (TV series).

[edit]

Hi. I looked at Articles for deletion/Hwang Jin-i (TV series). How does that demonstrate that NOTE is broken? The article seemed like a reasonably well referenced stub. Not stellar citations, but enough to make me think it's worth an article. I was dissapointed that the AfD was closed early and not by an admin, but I don't think that's your point. Am I missing something? Thanks. --Kevin Murray (talk) 16:43, 17 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

PS: Does this picture look familiar?

Sailing on San Francisco Bay.

Do you sail on the Bay much? --Kevin Murray (talk) 16:46, 17 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

LOL. Funny pic. My aunt and uncle have a sailboat they keep in the marina just south of the Bay bridge. I visity them about once a year, and we go out and have lunch at Angel Island (California). - Peregrine Fisher (talk) (contribs) 17:39, 17 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The article looked like this when I happened on the AfD. The reason why NOTE is broken when it comes to that article is that it's about a foreign subject, and the AfD is run by people who don't know Korean. Luckily someone who knew Korean, and about Korean subjects, came along and fixed the article and knew whether it was notable or not. If they hadn't, an article on a notable subject could have easily been deleted, even though NOTE would have seemingly been followed. NOTE has basically become the English Google News Search test. This incorrectly produces "not notable" for many subjects, including foreing ones and ones that are more than a few weeks old (because newspapers archive they're stories and make them pay per view). - Peregrine Fisher (talk) (contribs) 17:25, 17 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Great! We love Angel Island too. We anchor overnight there a couple of times per year. We have a Catalina 380 which we keep just north of the east end of the Bay Bridge in Emeryville.
  • What you describe is a gross misapplication of WP:NOTE. The Google test is a bad precedent. I've had good success keeping many articles proposed for AfD justifying the article under WP:N. I think that there are a few problems among the most serious are a broken AfD process and an overly complicated notability infrastructure -- specifically a plethora of subguidelines. I think that our energy is best spent coming up with a superior version of WP:N and then insisting on a fairer application at AfD. --Kevin Murray (talk) 19:59, 17 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • It's a dificult situation. Doing research can cost a lot of time, money, and effort. Searching newspaper archives with LexisNexis (and others) requires a subscription that is thousands of dollars. Some schools provide access, but that isn't a general solution. Libraries may or may not have a book, and some towns (at least in Oregon where I am) don't have libraries. Going to a library is also very difficult compared to online research. Then there's the problem of foreign subjects, which have the same problems plus a bilingual editor may be needed, and they may need to live near libraries in some other country. We do need a way to weed out unsuitable articles though, which is what makes it so difficult. Changing NOTE a bit, although I don't know exactly how, is our best bet.
Beer, funny. That picture is cropped; in the original there is a beer bottle in my left hand. Cheers to your uncle. --Kevin Murray (talk) 05:53, 21 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What do you think of this?

[edit]

Have a look at what I've been up to. BOZ (talk) 20:50, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Yeah, I know they're not going to help with notability. But, what they should do, is make the articles more viable for fence-sitters - some people will vote to delete (or nominate, for that matter) based on how many cleanup issues an article has, rather than how well notability is established. Plus, I've seen articles "saved" by improving them despite being unable to prove notability - you remember the Melter right?  :) BOZ (talk) 01:23, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's a good idea. They will be much harder to delete. We're working on changing the rules over at WP:FICT and WP:NOTE right now. You may see a watchlist notification about it in the next month or so. If you do, weigh in. Until then, keep up the good work.
I haven't worked on any D&D articles lately, but if you end up working on one that does have references that just need to be added, drop me a line. I'd like to establish notabiility for a few more articles. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) (contribs) 05:40, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've been peeking my nose in to look at all the notability debating, so I've got at least a partial idea of what's going on. Hard to tell if anything's actually being accomplished though, or if people are just spinning their wheels.  :) I do like the idea of doing an RFC based on determining alternate means of establishing notability - hope that works out well! I'm not going to get involved in the daily back-and-forth on the policy pages, but if you've got an RFC or something where I can share my thoughts I'd be glad to. BOZ (talk) 14:34, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If anything useful happens it will be a straight yes/no vote and it will be advertised on everyone's watchlist. As you say, it mostly spinning wheels right now. It's just opinion so that's why a vote will be nice. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) (contribs) 17:03, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RFC on WP:NOTE proposals

[edit]

Hey. I just wanted to thank you for being pretty reasonable about these notability discussions. If you might recall, we engaged in a lot of debate with people digging in on their own interpretations. Once this stagnated, people could finally see that no progress was being made, and then the proposals started. I think we had to hit "no consensus" first before the compromises started to happen. A lot of proposals for compromise have come forward since then. And all signs seem to point towards a WP:RFC that will solicit feedback about notability on a mass scale.

User:Masem put together a RFC proposal. We haven't decided how to proceed on it, but it does not include any of the proposals anyone worked on. I fear that restarting the discussion at a general level will just lead us back to "no consensus", and at a much slower bureaucratic pace. A number of people share that fear. As such, I've gained support for an alternative RFC proposal.

My RFC proposal includes every single proposal that was put forth. Take a look. It's still a work in progress, but the basic form is there. People generally think this proposal will be more productive because takes advantage of the fact that we collectively moved the discussion forward (by offering concrete proposals for compromise). But the same people also agree that this RFC page is less readable than Masem's because it just has too much information for the average disinterested wikipedian. My RFC page is almost twice as long as Masem's!

I'm not sure that we're even going to go with my RFC page proposal. But if we do, I wanted to ask if you would consider withdrawing your proposal that "An abundance of trivial coverage can establish notability". It's actually a good proposal and I might even support it. But I think it might be a little off topic, and clutters the two main issues of the current debate. (Those issues are A: the notability of sub-articles, and B: the interaction between the GNG and the specific notability guidelines.) I'm personally on the fence about removing your proposal, but removing it woulds horten the RFC page and improve our organization and focus. You might be doing this process a big favor by withdrawing this one. But if you don't want to, I understand, and we'll wait to see what a consensus of other editors say.

I'd appreciate your comment at Wikipedia_talk:Notability#Meta-proposal_to_improve_readability_.28step_one.29. Thanks in advance. Randomran (talk) 01:38, 11 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The article was really about weblogs and all its blogs, TV Squads parent company. It would be good for describing how TVS works, but it wasn't really doing much for notability. I'll merge TV Squad into weblogs for now to avoid the deletion, and maybe we can find info later for it and bring it back. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) (contribs) 16:39, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

SF copyedit

[edit]

Hi, i was wondering if you could give Homosexuality in speculative fiction a copy edit: For grammar, (British) spelling, checking it makes sense to general readers (jargon), whether there is too much repetition, is too listy. I'm working on the lead now. the refs i will format properly soon, unless you are really bored and want something to do .-).

Article is being worked up to GA class (not FA), but i can't find anyone who wants to help (all the wikiprojects it is part of have ignored it). It's listed for peer review, so any comments would be welcome there too Yobmod (talk) 14:58, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wasilla Assembly of God and WSJ comment

[edit]

The issue isn't as much the reliability of the Wall Street Journal — and no, I would not qualify them as reliable on everything — but whether this commentary is appropriate for this article, as it carries a negative point of view. This sort of comment does not exist on other articles about individual Assemblies of God congregations, nor do similar comments about a denomination's doctrines and beliefs appear on the articles for individual congregations within those denominations. And they shouldn't. This commentary was inserted parimarily to cast the church, and by extension Sarah Palin, in a negative light and therefore violates NPOV. Please read the discussion about this at Talk:Wasilla Assembly of God, then reconsider your reverting of this POV comment. (I cannot revert it myself due to WP:3RR.) - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 07:44, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

We don't censor WP and I would add that type of info to any church or organization page, not just this one. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) (contribs) 16:51, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It is not censorship and you know it. The quote is out of place, and belongs in the main article about the denomination. You might place this info on other articles about individual churches, but you would be one of very few. As you can see on the talk page, the general consensus is that the quote is out of place, and another editor has moved it to its proper place. I have further added context for the quote. If you have further comment about this, please post your comments on the Wasilla A/G talk page. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 23:09, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:And Eternity cover.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:And Eternity cover.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Thanks for any help.

[edit]

Thanks for the note, it helped me understand what was going on. I would love any help on creating a wiki page for Zumeo. I actually looked at a few others, namely wiki/jobster and tried to follow a similar format. I added in links to third party content, one of which was negative about our services in an honest effort to be balanced and transparent. We've also had a feature story CNBC Business Radio (you can hear it on our home page, www.zumeo.com) and a local TV news outlet recently do a story.

All that to say, I really do want to provide valuable content on Wikipedia. We are a legitimate business and I would think we have as much place here as any other business. I am very new to this wiki thing and to be honest with you kind of confused on the usability, so again, any help you can offer would be very very appreciated.

We will continue to expand our Wiki page and add more authoritative references as we get them. We will also encourage other qualified editors to contribute to the page as appropriate. If you see a problem with the page in the future, please warn me and I will don anything I can to fix it. Thanks Again. Mat --MatRudi (talk) 13:45, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Great job with Gygax. We need every DnD GA we can get. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) (contribs) 02:20, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed! And comics too - I've nominated Wizards of the Coast, and will hit up a handful of notables before moving on to comics articles. Gygax was reviewed by Jclemens, who also did Bunnies and Burrows by the way; as promised, he was fair and a good judge, and knows his stuff. Took a few weeks to get through it, but that was worth it given the results. :) He offered to pick up any D&D articles I nominated, so I'm waiting to see if he can get around to the WotC article. BOZ (talk) 02:35, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Why is you article on GA nominations page Kevin Wu redirected to KevJumba? If the article is about KevJumba, I recommend that change the wording to reflect the title. Or else get the redirect changed back! Regards, —Mattisse (Talk) 22:18, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject: Dungeons & Dragons

[edit]

Hi! I’ve been working on a lot of ‘’Dungeons & Dragons’’ articles lately and saw that you were a member of WikiProject Dungeons & Dragons), and am inviting you to rejoin Wikipedia’s D&D group. I've been hard at work removing tags placed inappropriately on D&D articles, as well as modifying articles to remove tags that were placed legitimately. In addition, I have been compiling related articles together so that the articles are longer, making it easier to remove tags and to have short articles on lesser topics by just putting it into another appropriate article (links to such compiled articles can be found on my userpage). Check out the project here , and ask any questions that you may have here. Thank you for your time. Drilnoth (talk) 20:53, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Jackie Robinson FA push

Hello again. It was a pleasure working with you to bring Jackie Robinson to WP:GA status. I know you want to bring the article to FA status, so there I ask, do you have any plans to do so? I believe there are still improvements needed if we're going to get it to FA status. I'm thinking of starting a peer review on the article first. Thoughts? – RyanCross (talk) 04:38, 8 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I do want to take it to FA, but I'm housesitting and their internet doesn't work. I may work on it a bit at other people's houses, or it may take I while before I can get to it. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) (contribs) 18:48, 8 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
