Copyright page
[edit]Hi welcome to wiki, Just reversed you addition to the Novels templateTemp page as Copyright_date is not a field in the "infobox book". That is not to say that it should not be but you would need to propose this on the Template talk:Infobox Book page. I was using the "Release date" field, which in my view should really be "Publication date" to fulfill this purpose. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page) 10:05, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
Hi seeing your interest in books and novels, I was wondering if you might like to get envolved with our as yet small (revitalised) WikiProject. Being a small group currently there is plenty of scope for influencing things and making your contribution count. We are about establishing standards for Novel based articles and writing articles that meet our own and others high standards, and to improve Wikipedia's diet of articles on Fiction books, otherwise called Novels. Please be very welcome. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page) 10:05, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
just seen you had signed up - so I took the liberty of adding you a userbox on your main page.
Hi, Welcome to wikipedia and to the Novels project. Wander round the Project pages and get a feel for what we are about, then get stuck in with article improvement and writing. Dont forget to use the templates and categories provided. Any questions please ask. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page) 10:23, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

I will ask one or two other stalwart editors before formally publishing the first issue. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 13:48, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

License tagging for Image:War machine cover.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:War machine cover.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 20:08, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Your idea of moving the article to a better name was a good one. Please note, however, that you should never copy/paste articles like this (you will lose the edit history). Instead, use the "move" tab of the page to move the article to a new name. It's fixed now. Rl 20:43, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

Acts of War proposed for deletion
[edit]Hi PeregrineV! Please take a look at Acts of War. It has 16 fields that are filled only with dummy information, such as "~Explain the novel's title.." It probably shouldn't remain that way. It confuses the ISBN-searching because it has a dummy ISBN. I marked it with {{wp:prod}} but that should be removed if you think you can get to it. The Ashes of Eden has some of the same problems. Orphaned fair use image (Image:Perfect-justice-cover.gif)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Perfect-justice-cover.gif. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Gay Cdn (talk) (Contr.) 02:38, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:The-Firm-Cover.gif
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:The-Firm-Cover.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 05:33, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Outpost resnick cover.jpg
[edit]Thank you for uploading Image:Outpost resnick cover.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 14:21, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Cover images
[edit]I am surprised you haven't fallen over this problem before. Some are insisting that all "Fair use" justified images also use a template to structure the information added in support of the copyright images used for cover illustration. Some of us have been highly miffed by this practice, although it may have plenty of merit, is has the effect of upsetting all who have added images via the rules in force at the time of upload. Anyway if you are willing to try and keep these people happy, which I have tried to do myself. the template with a sample verbage uis below
{{Non-free media rationale |Article="""add the article link in here""" |Use=Infobox |Artist= |Item=Front cover |Description=Cover for the book """any other description like is it first edition etc""" |Source=Derived from a scan of the book cover (creator of this digital version is irrelevant as the copyright in all equivalent images is still held by the same party). Copyright held by the publisher or the artist. Claimed as fair use regardless. |Portion=Entire front cover, but does not include back or insides of original artwork |Resolution=Is only as much resolution as necessary to identify and show the style of artwork used for the article, not enough to be used for piracy. |Purpose=Illustrates the appearance of the book and identifies it by recognized features. |Replaceability=No free equivalent can equal this image (any would be a derivative of this artwork) |other_information= Image in this form is already widely distributed to identify the book as part of catalogs and reviews, so we degrade no market value by providing it ourselves. }}

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Armbears.jpg}
[edit]Thank you for uploading Image:Armbears.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.
Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Hello. I'm contacting you and other members of WikiProject Books in order to find if you are interested in collaborating to expand and improve The CIA and the Cult of Intelligence article to make it worthy of becoming a featured article candidate, in light of the fact that it is the first book the U.S. government ever went to court to censor before its publication. --Loremaster (talk) 22:11, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
WikiProject Novels is currently holding a roll call, which we hope to have annually. Your username is listed on the members list, but we are unsure as to which editors are still active within the project. If you still consider yourself an active WP:Novels editor, please add your name back to the Active Members list. Also feel free to join any of our task forces and take a look at the project's Job Centre to get involved!
Next month we will begin the coordinator election selection process. We hope to have more involvement and input this time around! More news will be forthcoming. Thanks, everyone! María (habla conmigo) 18:47, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:The-Firm-Cover.gif
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:The-Firm-Cover.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. ww2censor (talk) 16:38, 8 May 2011 (UTC)
Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. The article Face of the Enemy (novel) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Fails book notability guidelines. Source searches reveal no reviews in major, independent, reliable sources that confer significant coverage. Mainly just fan fiction.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. DrStrauss talk 10:10, 9 October 2017 (UTC)
