Hi again, Penwatchdog. You can leave a reply here and I will see it.

  • CHEERS par'ner, especially to whomever came thru with the buried-treasure-sources; owe'ya a case'a wine for that! meanwhile i'm still learning, & still digging for the full Rene Moncada article! btw...
  • anyone out there who can dig up anything about an unsung-but-notable guitarist "Kenny Gwynn(Gwyn?) & The Board of Directors" :research help requested! for use within an existing article of The Jane hotel in NYC; a Rock club called (The?) Inner Circle existed in it's basement in the mid-80's, guest musicians as Jaco Pastorius(Weather Report) & Jorma Kaukonen(Jefferson Airplane/Hot Tuna) regularly showed up for jam sessions there.Penwatchdog (talk) 12:44, 5 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • new york alterna-culture is an aim; japanese language & wiki-article-translations of it are something i'll be investigating forthwith, heretofore, adnauseum...Penwatchdog (talk) 12:20, 5 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Safe place to edit

[edit]

Any article you create in your userspace is safe from deletion, so long as it isn't a copyright violation or an attack on a person. I don't think you have to worry about either of those. So you can make User:Penwatchdog/Rene Moncada and User:Penwatchdog/Kenny Gwynn & The Board of Directors and User:Penwatchdog/The? and they won't be deleted. When you think they are good enough that they won't be deleted, you can move them to article space by following the directions at WP:MOVE. If you do start any of those articles, I will try to find references for them, but no promises as I'm really unreliable. 64.40.54.219 (talk) 14:48, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

i am the best artist Rene Moncada

[edit]

Anyone with any references further citing Rene Moncada, aside from-&-including his "I AM THE BEST ARTIST Rene" murals, please direct them to my sandbox. I wish to pay more attention to him as a near-future new-article, THANKS! Penwatchdog (talk) 09:50, 21 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Penwatchdog. I just wanted to note that your sandbox (User:Penwatchdog/sandbox) is a great place to work on article ideas, test templates, try referencing and other temporary things like that. If you know you'll be working on a specific article, like Rene Moncada, then it is best to start it as the actual article title, like User:Penwatchdog/Rene Moncada. This is so the whole thing can be moved out of your user space and directly to article space with the complete editing history. Wikipedia has to do that because of the attribution requirements of CC-BY-SA and GFDL, which are the licenses that we use for all our articles. Hope that's OK by you. Best regards. 64.40.54.49 (talk) 12:45, 21 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thanks, that's something I'd been wondering about. I would've gone ahead and done that already myself but, alas, I'm an idiot when it comes to those kind of otherwise simple computer procedures. That's why I just started using my sandbox as a kind of holding area for things I'm planning to look into. Very old-old-school in that way. Would I be creating that as a "tutorial" sandbox? Please advise at your convenience. I expect the Rene article to take some time anyway, and'll probably be working on several articles simultaneously; may just work on some of those off-the-grid and leave my sandbox to Rene's article. Best, Penwatchdog (talk) 03:39, 22 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Everything that starts with User:Penwatchdog, such as "User:Penwatchdog/some kinda article name" or "User:Penwatchdog/a helpful tutorial" is considered a sandbox, but a sandbox that is specific to something. So "User:Penwatchdog/Rene Moncada" is your sandbox for a Rene Moncada article. You can work on these for as long as you want and do anything you want as long as they are under User:Penwatchdog. When "User:Penwatchdog/Rene Moncada" is moved to "Rene Moncada" then it becomes an official article. Also, if you want to do another DYK, the 5 day clock only starts running when the article goes from "User:Penwatchdog/Rene Moncada" to "Rene Moncada". My suggestion would be to open your sandbox (click here), copy the Rene Moncada stuff, then click this red link and paste the Rene Mocada stuff and click the Save button. That will create the start of a Rene Moncada article in your user space. Best regards. 64.40.54.126 (talk) 06:46, 22 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi PWD,

I heard you were interested in having access to the resources of HighBeam Research. As a newer editor, I'd just like to learn a little more about what you're working on and how you think HighBeam could be helpful to you. Let me know and I think getting you an account should be little trouble. Cheers! Ocaasi t | c 15:02, 21 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Am i correct in assuming you were sent my way by 64 above? Thanks for offering your services! What's it all about? Not sure what to say for now except I'm just a writer who's happy to contribute... but my writing hasn't ever required the kind of internet/research finesse as wiki-world requires, occupying amounts of time and re-directing my focus in directions I'm not normally willing to offer of myself. I know of what i write —otherwise wouldn't write about it— i just wish someone could follow along behind me, attaching sources as i provide the facts! Wouldn't it be nice... How can you help? Penwatchdog (talk) 04:05, 22 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
@Ocaasi, thanks for stopping by. I didn't mention anything to Penwatchdog about HighBeam yet. I didn't want to get his hopes up in case we couldn't get him an account. You can see the referencing he's used in his articles; I AM THE BEST ARTIST Rene and the recent DYK Ballpoint pen artwork. He mostly interested in working on art related articles.
@Penwatchdog, user Ocaasi is our resident expert at getting us paid search engine accounts for free (because we volunteer at Wikipedia). I've asked Ocaasi if he could get a HighBeam account for you (which would be free). There's an online database and search engine of newspapers, magazines, etc. called HighBeam Research. It makes it much easier to find references for articles like the ones you want to work on. So Ocaasi was aking about the kind of work you're doing here at Wikipedia (i.e. writing articles and referencing).
@both, sorry for the confusion guys. Best regards. 64.40.54.126 (talk) 07:04, 22 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No problem 64. I'm glad to help a promising new user be even better equipped to thrive here. Penwatchdog, let me know if you think you're ready for this type of reference. As a test, you might go to http://www.highbeam.com and do a search for some of the information you're working on. If HighBeam has it, then I'll gladly set you up with an account. If not, the offer is open down the road. As for someone following you around adding sources, that is every Wikipedians dream, but sadly, the more experienced you become as an editor, the more you realize it's better to not count on someone else to clean up after you. So, best of luck and let me know if I can be of any assistance. Also, a page you might find helpful that I worked on to assist dedicated new users is WP:PANDS. Check it out!. Talk to both of you folks later. Cheers, Ocaasi t | c 16:52, 22 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks very much, Ocaasi. I appreciate your helpful and generous support. I handn't run across WP:PANDS before. I like it. It seems to be a good summary of things. Kind regards. 64.40.57.7 (talk) 01:35, 23 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
