Hopefully a DYK?
I decided to go for it and try with Edward Harland. It's nice to sit and make an article instead of mindnumbing patrolling. While you're having fun I'll be having 4 days and 3 nights of blisters... Regards, EJF (talk) 16:53, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
IP Voting
Ok. I wasn't sure. SpencerT♦C 00:26, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
- You were spot on in handling that. IP's can't coment in Oppose/Support/Neutral at RFA. Hopefully my ISPwill have sorted me out now. Pedro : Chat 00:37, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
Re:RfA - Aleta
I don't see what is hard to understand about it. I didn't think using crap in an edit summary is such a serious offence. OK, I agree with you in that it should be avoided, but I do not think it is the reason to oppose an RfA. That is my first point.
I then went on to say that your reply to the IP's comment (And who are you to say it isn't a swear word?) isn't the sort of reply that would be expected to come from a skilled administrator like yourself. That was my second point.
Don't get me wrong, I fully respect you as an administrator, and in the past I have admired your work and your help, and I have let you know about that (barnstars / comments, etc) but I just feel you were pushing the boat a little there. Lradrama 15:33, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
- As I said at the RfA it was more the "killing vandals" reference. And the IP response I gave simply mirrored their words - "who are you to say it is a swear word?" was the question from the IP and I felt that was a perfectly fine response. Yes, it could be argued to be bitey I guess, but in reality any IP that contributes to RFA is extermly unlikely to be a newbie. You will also note that I didn't oppose the Aleta's RfA so I am mystified why you tell me that you "do not think it is the reason to oppose an RfA". The candidate passed, as was inevitable, and I'm delighted to have another capable pair of hands on board. I'm sorry you felt I was "pushing the boat" and will certainly keep your comments in mind. Meanwhile, of course, Happy Editing! Pedro : Chat 13:34, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
- That's fine, don't worry about it. My comment about your 'oppose' was slightly inaccurate - that was my fault and I'm sorry about that. And we all have moments when we may bite back at others, it's inevitable. Happy editing and happy easter. Lradrama 17:49, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
my RFA
Thank you for your comments in my RFA. It passed with a final count of (73/3/1), so I am now an administrator. I have listened to the comments, and will try to improve in all areas. Please let me know if at any stage you need help, or if you have comments on how I am doing as an admin. Have a nice day! :) Aleta Sing 19:41, 22 March 2008 (UTC) |
RfA
Hey Pedro, just a note of thanks for your support in my recent unsuccessful RfA. The "Okay, I'm buying this" was the best part. The questions were great - yes, they were not nice, but they gave me a chance to show that even though I am green in terms of tenure, I understand policy etc etc. I'll be back in a few months for another try, hopefully I still have your support then. Thanks again - Tanthalas39 (talk) 22:35, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

I'm constantly confusing you for Pedro. Do you mind changing your signature a bit, even if it just a minor colour change? Thanks. Spebi (talk) 05:05, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
- LOL – I have actually discussed this with Pedro : Chat , and we came to a mutual agreement. If either one of us ever embarrassed ourselves to the point of Banishment, one of us will have to change our signature. In that I have become more active here at Wikipedia and it seems that one of us has been generating a little bit more controversy, not saying who. How does this work. ShoesssS Talk . Discussion of twins is deeply unsettling given that User:WifeOfPedro is currently pregnant with User:SonOfPedro Mark II or User:DaughterOf Pedro and hence maybe both.......... :) ..Pedro : Chat 22:46, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

I've seen at least three of these.
It's from 4-chan. Every few weeks, they decide it'd be 'fun' to stir up shit here. If you see a article getting hit by multiple random IPs, and they're all using the same terms, it's b-tards doing a random-IP attack. Don't even bother warning them; they're just using the ip long enough to do damage then they go on to another one. HalfShadow (talk) 00:13, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

My images were from some games that I like, and they were all deleted. I had another image that was very important, and it was deleted too. All of the text remained. All that was left was an animation. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jorbs3210 (talk • contribs) 23:29, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks
I appreciate it Pedro. Just trying to get rid of the nuisance ASAP when i see it. Im still trying to learn this thing after all these years because this whole thing is a great 'project' that i just wish there was someway to rid vandals forever. I guess that is the only downside to having something anyone can edit By the way, when you place an article for speedy delete, this does not count as an edit does it? Because you cant see it in your contributions once its deleted that is. Just doing my bit thats all, looking at the new pages section and getting rid of it ASAP. - Ah, you see you must be drinking American red wine, which I also find horribly sweet. A full boddied Tempranillo is anything but. And my favourite (although far to pricy for regular drinking) come from Wickham Vineyard (at Wickham about five miles from where I live). Served in the House of Commons in fact! Re: Failed RFA
Hey Pedro, how's it going? I wanted to comment on this failed Rfa. This user and I were talking about life, ect..... We didn't really have any other way to talk and this was the main way to do so. We weren't disrupting the Encyclopedia or whatever, and in all actuality, I feel it helped while editing, kinda made things not so dull, if you know what I mean. Just FYI. Dustitalk to me 17:59, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
- Hi Dusti. Fair enough, but IMHO your sandbox was basically being used as IRC or Instant Messaging. The fact that the edit summaries didn't even marry to the comments made also makes it look more like you're using WP as a chat room than anything else. For sure, we all use talk pages for non Wikipedia comments, but that was a bit more than just an idle thread. Pedro : Chat 07:03, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
- True, true...just wanted to let you in on what was going on. Happy editing Dustitalk to me 17:19, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
Your speedy deletion G7 seems quite inappropriate since we had multiple Keeps while others such as myself had started editing the article and the author says in the discussion that he wants the article kept. Please reinstate this article so that the AFD can continue. Colonel Warden (talk) 12:15, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
Re your comments, I doubt that the author knew what he was doing since he appeared inexperienced and none of his comments that I saw in the AFD or talk page indicated that he wanted to give it up. Anyway, please userfy this for me so that I can rebuild it. Colonel Warden (talk) 12:26, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
In fact we still have a talk page for this with the author's comment Why the hell was my page deleted that I spent so so long working on :(. He clearly didn't want it to be deleted. Colonel Warden (talk) 12:32, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
That talk page seems to have been speedied too now. This reminds me of the thread I saw the other day - WP:BITE a newbie to become an admin. Can't find it now. Colonel Warden (talk) 12:43, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
I have added to your comment at the user's talk page. I agree that it would be tactically better to withdraw the article and then recreate it. Colonel Warden (talk) 12:49, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for reuniting me with that thread. I think we're done for now - will see what Atgio says. Colonel Warden (talk) 13:51, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
- Hi there Pedro, I have reopened the AFD since the original author has since requesting speedy deletion recreated the article with substantially the same content. All the valid reasons for its deletion still stand and had the author not requested speedy deletion then the AFD would still be running. Thanks/wangi (talk) 16:47, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
- Told you the author wanted it. This process is a utter waste of many people's time. The article is harmless and might have been resolved with a merge without any need for deletion. How does it go: to someone equipped only with a hammer, everything looks like a nail... Tsk. Colonel Warden (talk) 16:59, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
- Hi Wangi. Thanks for letting me know. Colonel Warden, please have the decency to look at this objectively. Look at the article history. It was clearly tagged by the author as a db-author and I was correct to G7 it. You seem to expect me to be able to second guess the authors wishes. You might also like to consider the 3,500 deletions I have made of which 1 was overturned at WP:DRV. I take great care with speedy deletions and the simple fact is that I am not in error here. I sometimes despair. As for not learning my lesson I was never actually given userrights for rollback Please see this diff. I was a new editor with 45 edits, I now have over a thousand and I have learnt my lesson, I haven't been involved in any warring or incvility. I just don't get it - There are 1109 user with flagged rollback, so it can't be difficult to get it and I just get slapped in the mouth everytime. amazing. BpEps - t@lk 21:13, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

- Yes. I looked at it after the editor challenged my decline. In fairness to him, he's never had rollback long enough to proove he can't use it, and he did some good work on April 1. Call me soft, but I can't really see a valid reason why he can't give it a go. As I said on granting, it's not a big thing and he shouldn't treat it that way. And I am watching his contributions and will simply remove it if abused. If you feel my approach is too lenient feel free to remove the rights. Pedro : Chat 07:14, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
- Nah, its not worth the resulting AN thread and barrage of orange boxes. And also, I'm feeling a bit lazy at this late hour. I'll probably check him for a couple days, then forget, and remember it when someone comes complaining to AN. Must AGF and you have done that correctly. MBisanz talk 07:18, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
- Heh! Bring on the OMGGRAMA! Seriously, if you are also prepared to watch his contributions for a couple of days as well that would really help. If it is misused it's removed, end of problem. If it's not (which I hope and expect to be the situation) then one happy editor and good news for WP. Thanks. Pedro : Chat 07:21, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
