Irene Caesar

[edit]

I respect your efforts to clean up the article. I'm eager to see how it all shapes up. But a major point that still needs to be hashed out (at least in my mind) concerns the self-published material. You wrote in your edit summary that "self-published material ... violates Wikipedia policy for references." That policy is not absolute. WP allows it in certain situations.

For me, the overall issue is this: If we remove all self-published references from her bio, casual readers will get the impression that there's nothing eccentric or "off" about Irene Caesar. She's just a typical creative person making her way in her chosen career. Sure, she's made statements on her blog for all the world to see about "Zio-Nazi" conspiracies and "false flag operations" she claims have been orchestrated by the CIA, ISIS, and the British Secret Service. But since no mainstream journalists have picked up on this aspect of Ms. Caesar's thinking, WP will present her to the world as if this other side of her didn't exist. Who cares about that 5-ton mastodon farting in the corner? If we close our eyes, cover our ears and hold our noses -- problem solved. Do you see my problem with all this? The woman has gone on record espousing extremist conspiracy theories, but the most influential encyclopedia on earth will have deemed it of no relevance to her biography. That's a gross violation of WP's responsibility to convey the truth -- no matter how ugly -- to its readers. Scaleshombre (talk) 05:32, 9 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Just wanted to thank you for your continuing efforts on weeding out unreliable sources in the article. Your work inspired me to take a good hard look at the remaining references; upon further scrutiny, it turns out that many of them were either dead links, unreliable sources, or links to pages that did not support the citations, and thus did not belong in a BLP. Together, I think we've done a commendable job of making sure the citations are consistent with WP standards for a BLP. Scaleshombre (talk) 04:40, 10 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. You appear to be engaged in an edit war with one or more editors according to your reverts at Irene Caesar. Although repeatedly reverting or undoing another editor's contributions may seem necessary to protect your preferred version of a page, on Wikipedia this is usually seen as obstructing the normal editing process, and often creates animosity between editors. Instead of edit warring, please discuss the situation with the editor(s) involved and try to reach a consensus on the talk page.

If editors continue to revert to their preferred version they are likely to be blocked from editing. This isn't done to punish an editor, but to prevent the disruption caused by edit warring. In particular, editors should be aware of the three-revert rule, which says that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. While edit warring on Wikipedia is not acceptable in any amount, breaking the three-revert rule is very likely to lead to a block. Thank you. NeilN talk to me 05:16, 10 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
