Photo question
[edit]I believe that Image:Lakeohio.png is your photo, the question is do you have any proof (is it on the web somewhere under your name, for example)? If you can prove it and do not want it to be on Wikipedia, I will delete it. I also would like proof to show that the person who uploaded it is engaged in copyright violation. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 18:39, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
- I deleted Image:Lakeohio.png as it was the same image on Flickr here, with the branches edited out. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 04:16, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
- Would you be interested in uploading the image of the courthouse here on Wikipedia? Ruhrfisch ><>°° 04:39, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
Hello Ruhrfisch,
The photo of the Lake County Courthouse is my photo with the branches edited out. I have it posted on Flickr under my username of "amlapedalemaap". I was never asked and never gave permission for anyone to use my photo. I will upload the photo on Wikipedia as soon as I figure out how to do that.
I really appreciate you taking the time to research this and am sorry it took so long to answer. I am new at this and did not realize I had a message.
Thank you, Pdepalma Pdepalma (talk) 22:15, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry to be so slow in replying. I had some internet access issues that are getting better. I deleted the picture as a copyright violation - it can be uploaded again if you want it to.
You can upload the photo yourself by clicking on "Upload file" in toolbox at left (second from the bottom in toolbox). If you would rather, I could upload it and you could give the license (make that edit or confirm it). You will have to pick a GFDL or CC by SA license. Be aware that this gives other people the right to reuse your photo as long as it is used under the same or a similar license (they are supposed to credit you). As you know, even posting on Flickr with copyright and all rights reserved does not keep some people from taking your work and passing it off as their own. Let me know if you still want to upload it - I will be glad to check it if you do it yourself, or upload it from Flickr, or you can email it to me (the email this use link on the left side from my user or talk pages). Thanks, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:49, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot for letting us use the picture! I'm sorry for undoing your changes when you first discovered the problem. As you may have noticed, the person who used your picture without permission also used lots of other county courthouse pictures without permission, so I've been really disappointed to see that they've had to go: so it's even better to have someone let us use the good picture again :-) Nyttend (talk) 03:03, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- I see that you just added another copy of the courthouse picture to the article. Please forgive me for removing it, but the standard is only to use the image once, and it's already up above near the top of the page, which in general is a better place for important pictures. And thanks again for your work: keep it up, and you'll be better and better :-) Nyttend (talk) 03:13, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- The upload and license look fine. I made some minor tweaks - the location is clearer in the summary now (as there are twelve places named Lake County in the US) and it helps to add categories for Commons images. Keep up the good work and let me know if I can be of further assistance, yours Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:22, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- The first comments I ever received on my talk page, other than something similar to that big Welcome! box above, was a note that I'd (unintentionally) violated two different policies. Don't worry :-) Nyttend (talk) 03:26, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- My first edit got me accused of being a sock puppet (someone masquerading as someone else, typically a newbie). It took me a week to figure out how to access my talk page again (without the orange bar to help) and months before I went on Commons to set up an account. There is a bit of a learning curve here, but you're doing quite well! Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:30, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- You are very welcome, but Nyttend put it there. Painesville, Ohio might be another place to put the picture. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:32, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
Now that we're done...
[edit]Thanks for helping to resolve this whole courthouse picture question. I'm sorry if I came across as harsh or untrusting; it's simply that we need to be careful to make sure that your pictures aren't used without your permission. If there's anything that you'd like to ask me, please don't hesitate. Nyttend (talk) 20:51, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
