Thank you!
Thank you Patrick for welcoming me and giving me some tips on how to use wikipedia successfully. I will definitely take these things into account when editing or creating articles on here.

Reading between the diffs
happy birthday :) — Rhododendrites talk \\ 13:56, 20 April 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you, Rhododendrites; most kind and thoughtful of you! Yes: three score and ten; hard to believe when one still feels like 25 inside! Hoping all is well with you? I have not been very active here lately, but having fun IRL, what with arranging Balkan folk tunes for string quartet and assembling a collection of my poems for publication. Happy days!
- Keep well and joyful too;
- With kind regards;
- Patrick. ツ Pdebee.(talk)(guestbook) 14:07, 20 April 2018 (UTC)
- Balkan folk tunes? Anything online you can link to? I've been trying to reduce my activity, as well, in order to focus on a dissertation, but there are too many loose ends. :) — Rhododendrites talk \\ 15:30, 20 April 2018 (UTC)
- Dear Ryan ,
- Please accept my apologies for tardiness in replying to you latest entry, above! The book of poems is all-absorbing, I fear! As you requested, here is a tune that was filmed a few years ago, with me (on long-scale mandolin) leading the quartet in Dance of Suleiman. More details available in the video’s description. We’ve done some more since then, but none was filmed, I am sorry to say.
- Keep well;
- With kind regards;
- Patrick. ツ Pdebee.(talk)(guestbook) 11:29, 29 May 2018 (UTC)
Thanks
Thanks for your thanks on Pembrokeshire. I didn't need to be so pointed in my edit summary, not realising that you were (a) local and (b) much more experienced than I am. Civility is sadly lacking in WP these days, so I appreciate yours. Best wishes, Tony Holkham (Talk) 12:58, 11 June 2018 (UTC)
- Dear Tony,
- Very many thanks for your most courteous post, above. When I saw your edits after mine on Pembrokeshire earlier today, I realised I should have adhered to WP:LISTBIO by adding a source, and therefore saw your intervention as a very helpful contribution that improved on my earlier edit, and thus richly deserving of a couple of clicks on the 'Thank you' button.
- As for levels of experience, I tend to view everyone here as a peer. Besides, we were both born the same year, both started editing in earnest in 2013, and only 48% of my edits were to articles; therefore, those 17,000 edits are not all that much higher than your current 9,300+. And you have created 70+ articles to my 45+! So, I'd conclude your contribution is more significant than mine. BTW, the only reason my user page keeps track of all the articles I ever edited is so that I can then remove them from my watchlist, where I only keep about 700 articles of interest to me at any one time. Finally, on the subject of edit summaries: I try to remain as neutral as possible by starting them with an action verb followed by a short description of the task completed (except for typos, where I use a different edit summary format). That way, I am hopeful other editors won't feel personally involved; having said that, I certainly did not read your edit summary as anything other than a clear indication of the very helpful improvement to my own effort, as mentioned above.
- So, Thank you once again for your help and kind message, Tony, and also for all your contributions to our encyclopedia.
- With kind regards;
- Patrick. ツ Pdebee.(talk)(guestbook) 20:54, 11 June 2018 (UTC)
- You're too kind, Patrick, and thank you. I try to keep my watchlist down to about 250, but it's a struggle; everything is so interesting...

Fernando Pessoa article review
Dear Pdebee, Thank you so much for your article review on Fernando Pessoa. I am pmms2005, the Portuguese guy who created the entries in this article: - Early years in Durban - Adult life in Lisbon - Pessoa the flâneur - Literature and occultism - Writing a lifetime It happens that I edit directly the Fernando Pessoa page and other pages mostly without login. Thank you for your advice. All the best, pmms2005 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.54.96.134 (talk) 22:19, 18 June 2018 (UTC)

Reynardine
Hi, I don't feel qualified to edit Wikipedia, but I saw your name on the page for the folksong Reynardine. The first line of the lyrics has the words "two miles below Pimroy" and there's a not saying that Pimroy does not appear to be an actual place-name. But Pomeroy in Co. Tyrone is an actual place name, and a variant of this song is called "The Mountains of Pomeroy", credited to Dr George Sigerson. In that song the hero is not a fox-man but an outlaw or freedom fighter. This information ought to be in the article. I was surprised to see that the Pimroy/Pomeroy connection is older than Sigerson.

Alas, poor Maury!
Okay, Patrick, I have to admit, you've piqued my curiosity and I am stumped. What exactly are your criteria for "celebrities-who-play-the-banjo" notability? And how in heaven's name does the "banjo-playing, banjo-hitting," 1960s stolen-base king not meet them? DavidESpeed (talk) 07:42, 12 October 2018 (UTC)
- Dear David,
- I am so terribly sorry and can only apologise for missing that section altogether! I must have skipped it inadvertently when I reached the ‘Managing and retirement’ and ‘Personal life’ sections; clearly a sign of my recent ol’ age! . But now that you so thoughtfully pointed me directly to it, I fully agree that Maury most certainly qualifies, and I will therefore revert my own edit, thus reinstating him where he belongs.
- Thank you for bringing this oversight to my attention, David, and thank you also for your forgiveness.
- With kindest regards;
- Patrick. ツ Pdebee.(talk)(guestbook) 12:20, 13 October 2018 (UTC)
- [Note to self: Maybe it’s time to retire?...]
- Yikes! My bad, Patrick. You owe me no apology (indeed, based on this admittedly small sample, UR a most worthy representative of—and terrific advertisement 4—both Kindness and Oldies); and PLEASE—pretty please!!!—do NOT retire. In fact, as you can see here, there's an eminently rational, dementia-free explanation for your 'miss.' Indeed, at that point, all I had yet added to Wills' theretofore bewilderingly music-free wiki was the category, African-American banjoists, and the beginnings of a "Further reading" section, which was, among other things, to provide the basis for any music-related material in the article proper.
- I guess it was the fact that a quick reversion of my category add was just as quickly undone by the very same editor that lessened any sense of urgency about figuring out exactly how to incorporate that material. (And, perhaps, reinforced the illusion that Wikipedians in good standing are, by definition, every bit as tuned into '60s/'70s baseball trivia as is yours truly.) So actually, I suppose I should be thanking you for kick-starting my creation of that section. So there; consider yourself thanked, for that, for your very gracious shout-out... and for just being you.
- Sincerely,
- DavidESpeed (talk) 14:54, 13 October 2018 (UTC)
- Dear David,
- Aaaah, I seeeee! This is so funny!!
- It just so happens that I am currently on the road and visiting with friends in London (thus, well away from my desktop and the fresh air of the West Coast of Wales) and occasionally lapsing briefly into Wiki mode from the iPad, out of sheer addiction (). Therefore, I did not investigate any change history crumbtrails and simply took your initial query at face value, seeing as how you had been so courteous (and witty!) yourself.
- Therefore, thank you very much for reassuring me about how my mental abilities would still operate if I were to activate them, and then engage them, fully ... ... and, of course, very many thanks for your very kind words!
- Above all, thank you for all your contributions to our encyclopedia, David, and please keep up the excellent work!
- With kindest regards;
- Patrick. ツ Pdebee.(talk)(guestbook) 16:17, 13 October 2018 (UTC)
- [New note to self: Definitely follow David’s pleading advice about not retiring... ()]
