Placenames
[edit]This is the English Wikipedia, and our articles are based on the common name in English not the official name, and this name should be used throughout the article, other than a brief mention of the official name in the opening line and the infobox.
We may, eventually, change the name, as we did at Mumbai, after about 10 years, but other articles, such as Bangalore are still under their "English" names, although the official name changed in 2006, as this is what English readers recognize.
This is standard across Wikipedia - we will not be changing Spain to Espana, Finland to Suomi, Vienna to Wien, Munich to Munchen or any of numerous other articles, where the English name differs from the "official" name.

Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at Ahmednagar. Your edits appear to constitute vandalism and have been reverted. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. Repeated vandalism may result in the loss of editing privileges. Thank you. - Arjayay (talk) 20:19, 6 March 2024 (UTC)
Please stop. If you continue to vandalize Wikipedia, as you did at Ahmednagar, you may be blocked from editing. It has clearly been explained, above, that our article titles are based on the common name in English not the official name. Please stop vandalizing the articles, and keep to the common name in English as per the article title - Arjayay (talk) 15:49, 14 March 2024 (UTC)
You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you vandalize Wikipedia, as you did at Ahmednagar.
Please re-read all the above warnings and explanations and stop changing placenames - Arjayay (talk) 15:11, 29 July 2024 (UTC)
Pawar: Please heed the advice given to you by an experienced editor like Arjayay, and stop making edits like Special:Diff/1249515531. I have posted you a welcome message and a TWA invitation above and an invitation to WikiProject India below. Spend some time becoming acquainted with Wikipedia before making more bold edits. And please always use preview before saving an edit. If you have any questions, you are always welcome to ask me on my talk page. Alternatively, you can ask your question at the Teahouse, or join Wikipedia's Live Help IRC channel to get real-time assistance. Happy editing, Sam Sailor 13:19, 5 October 2024 (UTC)
