License tagging for Image:Brasilia-clima01 (600 x 476).jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Brasilia-clima01 (600 x 476).jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 01:05, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

Image:Bmf01.jpg listed for deletion

[edit]
Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as Image:Bmf01.jpg has been listed for speedy deletion because you selected a copyright license type implying some type of restricted use, such as for non-commercial use only, or for educational use only or for use on Wikipedia by permission. While it might seem reasonable to assume that such files can be freely used on Wikipedia, a non-profit website, this is in fact not the case. Please do not upload any more files with these restrictions on them, because content on Wikipedia needs to be compatible with the GNU Free Documentation License, which allows anyone to use it for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial.

If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it (or amend the image description if it has not yet been deleted) and use the license {{GFDL-self}} to license it under the GFDL, or {{cc-by-sa-2.5}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain.

If you did not create this media file but want to use it on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

If you have any questions please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you. Cbrown1023 02:20, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

re images in Brasilia

[edit]

I had to remove almost all the images from this article, as they were tagged for Wikipedia use only - we aren't allowed to use images tagged for Wikipedia use only. It's too bad, because the article is a lot worse without them. If you know anyone in Brasilia who can take pictures of notable sites in that city and donate them to the public domain, that would be great. Herostratus 04:47, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Tande, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. If you plan to add more material to the article, I advise you to do so immediately. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources which verify their content. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Mhking 06:04, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It is clear that you are uploading copyrighted work and falsely marking it as your own work. If you continue to do this, you will be blocked. This is your last warning. --Spangineerws (háblame) 06:04, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate what you are doing for articles on Brazil—it's obvious to me that you're filling a gap in Wikipedia that needs to be filled. However, you apparently misunderstand the "spirit of Wikipedia". It is to create a free information source, and that means no copyrighted works, unless the author of the image has specifically given a license that allows Wikipedia to use it. It's blantantly obvious that you're copying images that you like from other websites, and in virtually all cases, such images are not suitable for Wikipedia. See Wikipedia:Copyrights—it's not a suggestion, it's a policy that defines what Wikipedia is. If you don't like it, tough—these are the rules; they must be followed. It's frustrating for me too—I write articles and want to use images I find online, but I can't. The rules apply to everyone; this isn't a free for all. --Spangineerws (háblame) 06:52, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This page is full of warnings, telling you to stop adding copyrighted works to Wikipedia. As for my bias against "non-US" things, please note that I've created articles like Zélia Cardoso de Mello, Emilia Pardo Bazán, Ivo Pitanguy, Gilberto Freyre, Rosa Montero, Elena Poniatowska, and Abdias do Nascimento. I strongly believe that Wikipedia needs better coverage of non-US topics; I just don't think that we need to break other people's copyrights to do it. --Spangineerws (háblame) 07:00, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello Paranhos.fabio! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 340 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

  1. Ana Paula Padrão - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
