Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your contributions. I am glad to see that you are discussing a topic. However, as a general rule, talk pages (including user talk pages) such as Talk:Nightfall (Asimov novelette and novel) are for discussion related to improving (a) an encyclopedia article in specific ways based on reliable sources or (b) project policies and guidelines. They are not for general discussion about the article topic or unrelated topics, or statements based on your thoughts or feelings. If you have specific questions about certain topics, consider visiting our reference desk and asking them there instead of on article talk pages. Thank you. {{Notif|TJRC}} Can you explain me the difference between the previous plot hole discussion and the one I proposed ? And why {{Notif}} does not seem to work here ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Papatamus59 (talkcontribs) 19:36, July 9, 2021 (UTC)
I haven't said there's a difference. Maybe they don't belong either. But they've been around for six years, a little late to revert now.
But understand: just because a page has problems does not mean that it's okay to make those problems worse. The presence of other problems does not mean to go ahead and add to the problem.
On the template, I think you meant to use {{notify}} (i.e., you left off the 'y'). I don't use that template, and it's not clear to me from its doc page how it's to be used. I typically use {{ping}}, which I think also does what you're looking for. TJRC (talk) 19:44, 9 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
the French Wiki uses Notif and Notifinv (without the final y, both failed). So it means that the templates are different ? Does not help poor me who is already struggling with all those weird tags.
so I was "right" to take opportunity of the preexisting "plot hole" to add mines. Six years does not sound as a good excuse to remain if they should not. Or it would mean the page is dead and not maintained anymore. I think that discussing the plot holes improves the article. I seem to have seen such kind of things ("controversies" chapters for example) for some films on wiki pages in the past but can't find any right now. I think I will stay away from Wiki therefore. Too painful to add any contribution.Papatamus59 (talk) 20:06, 9 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
On the templates: different Wikipedia editions have different pages, including templates. There's no guarantee or even expectation that English Wikipedia will use French spelling for its templates even if the French Wikipedia does.
No, you were not right to add discussions of the novel, rather than discussions of improvements to the article, to the talk page. I don't see how you get that from my comment.
Put simply: do not violate Wikipedia rules, even if someone else has done so. TJRC (talk) 20:38, 9 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I did not write right but "right" which is not the same thing. It means that I was wrong but I was deluded by the preexisting section which should have been erased long ago, and therefore I was consistent (and therefore "right") to add to them, in their "local standard of rest". No big deal. As I said, Wiki rules are painful to me and I will stay away from Wiki. That's far more simple.Papatamus59 (talk) 20:52, 9 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
