Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, PalmSpringsFacts, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, your edit to Frank Bogert does not conform to Wikipedia's Neutral Point of View policy (NPOV). Wikipedia articles should refer only to facts and interpretations that have been stated in print or on reputable websites or other forms of media.

There's a page about the NPOV policy that has tips on how to effectively write about disparate points of view without compromising the NPOV status of the article as a whole. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the Questions page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, click here to ask for help on your talk page, and a volunteer should respond shortly. Below are a few other good links for newcomers:

Some advice

[edit]

Hi, hope you don't mind if I offer you some unsolicited advice. Wikipedia's ways of doing things often seem strange to newcomers, but there are good reasons for them. The messages above were generated by templates, but this is a real person talking to you now.

I don't know anything about Palm Springs or Section 14, but if the information in Frank Bogert is incorrect, or gives undue weight to one version of events, then you need to demonstrate this with reference to reliable sources. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a news outlet or a publisher of original thought. Our articles only reflect what reliable sources are saying. The Frank Bogert article currently cites reliable sources which support the claim that "Bogert was an advocate for the eviction of non-Native Americans from Section 14". If you dispute this, then you need to present reliable sources that support your side of the argument.

See Help:Referencing for beginners and WP:RS for more information on what type of sources are considered reliable. In one of your edits, you mentioned documents on the City of Palm Springs website; if these are primary sources, written close to the time of the event by the people involved, then they will likely not be accepted as reliable. Self-published sources will also be of little use, unless the author has some special credentials as a historian.

If you know of any reliable sources that support your claims, I suggest you provide links to them on the article talk page, and discuss the changes you wish to make to the article. If you only have primary or self-published sources, one option is to present these to a reputable newspaper and try and get them to write an article on the subject (not an opinion piece or column, but an actual news article). You would then be able to cite this article as a reliable source, which would give you a much better starting point for discussion.

I hope you found this helpful; if you have any further questions you can alert me by typing {{ping|Sojourner in the earth}}, or by posting to my talk page. Sojourner in the earth (talk) 04:58, 15 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much for reaching out. You are very kind. I am very grateful and I have lots of documentation to refute the false statements inserted onto this page. I will start adding that. Will that person just erase what I add? I will put in the citations. 24.25.250.155 (talk) 18:03, 15 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
When you make a change to a page and another editor reverses it, the best thing to do is open a discussion. If you can't convince anyone else that your changes are an improvement to the article, then unfortunately that's the end of it. Wikipedia operates by consensus (see WP:Consensus) which means that a majority of editors must agree on any given course of action. You have already attempted to discuss this with Srich32977, which was the right thing to do, but since he is unwilling to continue the discussion, the next step is to post to Talk:Frank Bogert, with an explanation of what you want to change and why. However, you should only do this if you're confident that you have reliable sources to present which will support your point of view. Sojourner in the earth (talk) 18:54, 15 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
