Helping out with the Unassessed Wikipedia Biographies
Seeing that you are an active member of the WikiBiography Project, I was wondering if you would help lend a hand in helping us clear out the amount of [unassessed articles] tagged with {{WPBiography}}. Many of them are of stub and start class, but a few are of B or A caliber. Getting a simple assessment rating can help us start moving many of these biographies to a higher quality article. Thank you! --Ozgod 21:40, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Inserting soils information
Hello I am new to wikipedia. I am a graduate student in soil science and would like to help out as I can. While reading the soil stub I noticed a need for a page on argillic (a diagnostic subsurface horizon), but I have no idea how to edit the page correctly. Can I write the needed information and then leave it for your editing? I do not want to "vandalize" the page nor create a page that is filled with incorrect or missing links and I need the guidance of an experienced wikipedia user. Marmjacks0n 04:58, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
- Currently argil redirects to clay and argillic horizon redirects to brown earth. Cutans is the closest thing we have too a discussion of the argillic. Certainly this is a ripe area for a new article. -- Paleorthid 15:41, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanx, Remulazz

The newsletter is back! Many things have gone on during the past few months, but many things have not. While the assessment drive helped revitalize the assessment department of the project, many other departments have received no attention. Most notably: peer review and our "workgroups". A day long IRC meeting has been planned for October 13th, with the major focus being which areas of the project are "dead", what should our goals be as a project, and how to "revive" the dead areas of our project. Contribute to the discussion on the the new channel (see below) We decided to deliver this newsletter to all project members this month but only those with their names down here will get it delivered in the future. This is your newsletter and you can be involved in the creation of the next issue. Any and all contributions are welcome. Simply let yourself be known to any of the undersigned or post news on the next issue's talk page
Lastly, a new WikiProject Biography channel has been set up on the freenode network: Our thanks to Phoenix 15 for setting it up.

group categories
Hi. thanks for your message at my talk page., appreciate your feedback. However the reason i placed "Soil science" there was beased on other items in the category. if you look at thge "Materials" categoiry, you will se e it is nbot merely industrial material, but in fact many forms of both natural and manmade materials, including rocks and minerals. AFurthermore, it is a subcategory of "MAtter" aroot category. so one category on soil seemed like a good item to include. whichever, it is not a major issue, of course, but I do invite you to have a loot at the category when you ahve a chance. thanks for your help. --Steve, Sm8900 23:04, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
- Steve: despite your lack of spelling, despite your infuriating refusal to use edit summaries, (and the list goes on from there), you make a good point: The term soil material competes reasonably well with the term soil resource in terms of general acceptance. -- Paleorthid 15:56, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
septic tank versus septic system
Thanks for your response. I think that it wouldn't be a url change of the page because the url is Septic Systems but the page name has been changed to septic tank. It doesn't seem like a bad idea to merge septic tank and septic system but the page title should be septic system not septic tank because septic system is more broad and inclusive of the topics represented there. Thanks for your response. SoilMan2007 (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 16:37, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
I got you message on my talk page. Thanks for your help with this. I'm sorry I'm not following the correct form. I'm new to all of this. Regards, SoilMan2007 (talk) —Preceding unsigned comment added by SoilMan2007 (talk • contribs) 17:02, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
There was a debate about the name change in May 2006 when the consensus was for Septic tank (also reflected by a much greater number of Google hits for S. Tank rather than S system whatever significance that may have). They are known throughout the commonwealth English speaking world as Septic tanks. The position was exacerbated by a unilateral move to Septic system (the record of this appears to be missing so it may have been an Admin roll-back) since when it has remained at Septic tank. Personally I know them as Septic tanks and would vote for the name to be retained. Velela (talk) 21:00, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

- WPJ=WikiProject, in this case WP:SOIL. I picked it up somewhere, but admittedly not common. For my most common abbreviations see WP:ESL. Thanks for the friendly needle. ;) --Paleorthid (talk) 07:15, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
