Thinking about Wikipedia Activity
[edit]Does it matter who writes Wikipedia? If so, why?
I think that it matters who writes Wikipedia in that since so many people use Wikipedia for information, the people who write for it need to be extremely cognisent of their responsiblity. I think that it also matters that a wide variety of people write for Wikipedia because not only do they need to be knowledgable but in order to ensure an unbiased information base you need many writers and editors. Whoever wants to write for Wikipedia should be able to do so but they need to understand the rules laid out by Wikipedia. It definitely matters who writes for Wikipedia in the sense that if people with the wrong intentions have access to writing and editing Wikipedia it could be detrimental, but it also doesnt matter in the sense that people of all levels of expertise should feel as though they can help to improve Wikipedia. If Wikipedia encompasses as many voices as possible it can successfully and efficiently move towards improving the information available to the world, in the sense that it can be grown and improved. If the writers for Wikipedia all aim to strip articles of bias, harmful rhetoric, innacurate representations of oppression, and stop perpetuating social contsructs as fact. I think that it doesnt matter so much WHO writes for Wikipedia but what they write.
