Kapai

[edit]

Kia ora! Great work here, I see. Practically a one-person NZ encyclopedia.

And quite a bit on te reo too - enormously improving https://mi.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=R%C4%81rangi_iwi&action=history among others.

Kia kaha, e hoa.

Kia ora Robin Patterson. Tēnā rawa atu koe! Thank you for your very kind words and encouragement, it's really appreciated. Paewiki (talk) 23:59, 30 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Recreation reserves

[edit]

I notice you created the article Recreation reserve in May 2022 and the article Recreation reserves of New Zealand in August 2022. I was going to propose merging them as they seem to be about the same thing, but just wanted to check if there was a reason they were two separate articles before I do so. Thanks! --Canley (talk) 13:08, 18 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for pointing this out @Canley. It was a mistake on my part. I have gone ahead and merged the two articles. Paewiki (talk) 01:44, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there

I see you created Moutere Hills as a redirect to Māpua. As the Moutere Hills Community Centre is in Upper Moutere would it not make more sense for it to point to Upper Moutere?

(Leaving a note on your talk page instead of the redirect talk as I don't know if anyone is watching it at all and it's not an obvious error so I wasn't going to just change it without getting a second opinion). Daveosaurus (talk) 10:19, 22 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Daveosaurus. That was an error on my part and I completely support changing it. Paewiki (talk) 05:15, 27 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Cheers for that. Have gone and fixed it now. Daveosaurus (talk) 06:29, 27 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Paewiki,

I've just added a small section on Te Ao Māori to the Māori culture article, but - being a typical clueless pākehā - I've probably got the details of the exact meaning slightly wrong. You're one of my go-to editors on Māori matters, so could I get you to have a look and amend if necessary? Ngā mihi! (PS - I'm also posting a similar comment to User:Pakoire, who's done a lot of work on the article over the past few months)

I can confirm that Pakoire is Ngati Pākehā! Schwede66 21:13, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like one who knows more about Māoritanga than me, though :) Grutness...wha? 03:16, 8 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Kia ora @Grutness. Thank you for asking, but I will defer to Māori scholars and scholarship here. Paewiki (talk) 02:21, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough :) Grutness...wha? 03:02, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to an in-person meetup in Mohua / Golden Bay

[edit]
Golden Bay Air are holding some seats for us until 21 November

Thinking about your summer break? Think about joining other Wikipedians and Wikimedians in Golden Bay / Mohua! Details are on the meetup page. There's heaps of interesting stuff to work on e.g. the oldest extant waka or New Zealand's oldest ongoing legal case. Or you may spend your time taking photos and then upload them.

Golden Bay is hard to get to and the airline flying into Tākaka uses small planes, so we are holding some seats from and to Wellington and we are offering attendees a $200 travel subsidy to help with costs.

Be in touch with Schwede66 if this event interests you and you'd like to discuss logistics. Schwede66 09:14, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:45, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Wellington Regional Parks

[edit]

Hi there! Recently I've been working on improving the pages on regional parks of NZ, and I was wondering if you could help me clear up something with some of the Wellington parks. A lot of the park areas administered by Greater Wellington aren't formally described as regional parks in their name, so I'm not sure if they're appropriate to be listed as regional parks. Of the GW administered areas, some are treated identically to regional parks (e.g. Akatarawa Forest, which even gets called a regional park on the Greater Wellington website), and other features don't quite match what a regional park is (e.g. the Hutt River Trail - it's a walkway/cycleway, not a park, or the Wainuiomata Water Collection Area, which isn't publicly accessible). This also makes tracking when parks were established a bit more complicated. Do you have any advice/ideas for working out which entities should be listed as regional parks on the list of Regional parks of New Zealand? --Prosperosity (talk) 03:41, 8 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I see you've contributed a lot to List of Māori waka, would you be interested in a taskforce on oral tradition? Kowal2701 (talk) 22:11, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
