Sockpuppet investigation

Hi. An editor has opened an investigation into sockpuppetry by you. Sockpuppetry is the use of more than one Wikipedia account in a manner that contravenes community policy. The investigation is being held at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/AnnalesSchool, where the editor who opened the investigation has presented their evidence. Please make sure you make yourself familiar with the guide to responding to investigations, and then feel free to offer your own evidence or to submit comments that you wish to be considered by the Wikipedia administrator who decides the result of the investigation. If you have been using multiple accounts (in a manner contrary to Wikipedia policy), please go to the investigation page and verify that now. Leniency is usually shown to those who promise not to do so again, or who did so unwittingly, but the abuse of multiple accounts is taken very seriously by the Wikipedia community.

This blocked user is asking that their block be reviewed on the Unblock Ticket Request System:

AnnalesSchool (block logactive blocksglobal blocksautoblockscontribsdeleted contribsabuse filter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

UTRS appeal #19586 was submitted on Oct 23, 2017 17:16:26. This review is now closed.

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

AnnalesSchool (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

Dear Administrators, I am applying to be unblocked for the following reasons: a) that I have learnt my lesson and am determined to work cooperatively and in the right spirit with other editors; b) that I did not fully understand the rules and guidelines of wiki editing and the responsibilities of such; c) I have read the policy guidelines and have understood where I went wrong; that I will no longer get involved in sockpuppetry, edit-warring and threatening behavior. I understand the concerns of editors and can only say in my defence that I should be given a chance to redeem myself. I believe there is no further need to block me as it has been nearly two years since these incidences occurred. I also undertake to change my username as I have been informed that I cannot use names of associations. Again, I am truly sorry for the hurt and offence I may have caused to others and look forward to working in a more cooperative and sanguine way with others.

Decline reason:

You were socking with an IP address just 3 days ago (see here: [1]). This, along with the disruption in the past, and long history of sockpuppetry, does not lead me to believe that an unblock at this time is the proper way to go. RickinBaltimore (talk) 12:08, 24 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

(Non-administrator comment) Just a reminder to admins, this editor has a long history of being disruptive; the most recent case in only seven months ago. I have a hard time believing that this editor could drop their ongoing Italy vs. Greece parochialism, let alone stop being a pain in the ass to MILHIST and its editors, some of whom he has repeatedly personally attacked. Chris Troutman (talk) 09:57, 24 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Actually Troutman, I was not involved in that incident 7 months ago. I have, on several occasions, been "suspected" of being involved in incidences that have been unfairly attributed to me. I can only reiterate, that I will desist from "being a pain in the arse" to anyone. You have my word on that as a gentleman. Wikipedia is not a court of law, and I don't think it was ever meant to be. I made a few mistakes, which I am contrite and apologetic about. I will not make those mistakes again. Give me a chance - that is all I ask. AnnalesSchool

That's rather unkind and harsh of you RickinBaltimore. I was only applying on that forum page to unblock my block and I even penned my username to it! Here is what I posted on the WikiProject Military forum for all to see. Let others judge if it is a serious and malicious case of socking: AnnalesSchool

Hi fellas!!

It's me, AnnalesSchool!

I've learnt my lesson and want to come back as a Wiki editor. I feel that a two year ban is quite enough.

I promise to be good and work cooperatively with all editors.

I can't get into my account or email at all, which is why I'm posting my sincere request for unblocking here.

Regards,

AnnalesSchool

Hardly what I would call a bad case of socking. I did use my own IP adddress and signed it! It was hardly sinister nor intended to be. Then I found out about the unblocking ticket request site and formally applied through it instead.

  • Two points:
a) Your first stop is to have your username changed so you need to publish an acceptable requested new name here.
b) Unless you transcribe your appeal into the correct template it won't be listed at Category:Requests for unblock and will not get admin reviewed.
HTH. Just Chilling (talk) 18:36, 24 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Just Chilling, do you want me to write a new username here to replace AnnalesSchool? I've already logged an appeal thru the Unblock Ticket request? Why do you want me to do another? I've already been "admin reviewed" by Ricky-boy and my request has been turned down?

Yeah, good luck with that - we don't respond well to threats. —DoRD (talk) 14:58, 25 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I wish to change my username to "Pacemaker007". Is this all right??? Is this what you want me to do?

OK, got it now. I've lodged a formal request to change my username to "Pacemaker007".
Globally renamed 'AnnalesSchool' to 'Pacemaker007'. Just Chilling (talk) 20:22, 24 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Well, what next? How long am I going to be blocked for??? I'm not going to be blocked forever or I really will start using sock and meat puppets and while you may detect some of them, you won't be able to detect all of them. I have many friends around the world. Better to let me in now than forever be wondering: "Is that AnnalesSchool again?" There are programs out there that can effectively hide and alter your IP address, even from Wikipedia. I would rather do my editing legally with an account, than start using multiple accounts. Time is ticking. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pacemaker007 (talkcontribs) 09:19, 25 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Dord, you don't seem to respond well to anything. I really mean it. With every edit, you will have to wonder: Is it AnnalesSchool? Rather time consuming, isn't it old fella? You can't block people indefinitely and expect to get away with it. I tried to be patient but my patience is coming to an end.Pacemaker007 (talk) 15:54, 25 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Dr.K., Bishonen, and Nick-D: Just a heads-up to possibly interested parties. This too. —DoRD (talk) 15:05, 27 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • I certainly wouldn't reward those socking threats. AFAIC, this user has blown all chances of ever having their fine promises believed. Bishonen | talk 15:27, 27 October 2017 (UTC).[reply]
  • Thank you DoRD for the courtesy ping. I agree with Bishonen, and I add that given that Annales delights in describing the joys and freedoms of socking and meatpuppeting, his/her request to become a law-abiding editor sounds a bit disingenuous. That opinion is reinforced by the contrived-sounding unblock requests. Dr. K. 17:24, 27 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
This editor is effectively banned given their extensive socking and disruption. I don't think any admin would lift the block. Nick-D (talk) 21:05, 27 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that they are effectively banned and I have reversed the rename for a better audit trail. Just Chilling (talk) 21:20, 27 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
