Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia!

I hope not to seem unfriendly or make you feel unwelcome, but I noticed your username, and I am concerned that it might not meet Wikipedia's username policy for the following reason: contains the term "admin" which may imply a position of authority of which you do not have. After you look over that policy, could we discuss that concern here?

I'd appreciate learning your own views, for instance your reasons for wanting this particular name, and what alternative username you might accept that avoids raising this concern.

You have several options freely available to you:

Thank you. Tiptoety talk 18:56, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I administer the site www.OVPworld.org and my email is ovpadmin - and so it makes sense to me to use that login here. - thanks Simon.

Okay, but you are not editing at www.OVPworld.org, but instead here at wikipedia, and our username policy states that you can not have the term "admin" in your username unless you are a administrator on this site. Unless you change it, you will be blocked. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you. Tiptoety talk 19:10, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks - What would your suggestions be - and how do I change it? and then how do I change the two edits I made such that they are visible. - Thanks

You could change it to Ovpa ? To request a username change, please fallow the directions here: Wikipedia:Changing username, and once your username is changed your edits will be moved to the other username. Tiptoety talk 19:18, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for changing your username, it is very much so appreciated. Let me know if there is anyway I may be of further assistance to you. Cheers, Tiptoety talk 22:51, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Ovpa. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article OVPsim, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Be cautious about deletion discussions. Everyone is welcome to provide information about independent sources in deletion discussions, but avoid advocating for deletion of articles about your competitors.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. Widefox; talk 13:19, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
