If you have any questions, feel free to ask me on my talk page. Thanks and happy editing, -- Alf melmac 19:03, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
Hi Orfy, how about putting a sentence or two about you on your user page? People see a redlinked user and start to assume "vandal" otherwise, so they tell me :) Fiddle Faddle 20:20, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
Merging
[edit]Your user page asks about merging and how to do it.
It's pretty easy, just daunting the first time. As everyone says, be bold.
- Start by looking at both pages. Decide which is the logical home for the topic, and look at what exists on the other page that is required in the final one.
- open both in different windows in "edit" mode (even in a tabbed browser I find windows easier than tabs)
- Copy the parts you want into their new homes
- turn the outgoing page into a redirect page to the final one (#REDIRECT [[Insert non-formatted text here]]) and delete the remainder of the text on the old page.
- say what you have done, certainly in the field when you save the page, and better also on the talk page for the outgoing page
- the hard bit is editing the new in with the old on the new final page. Read it carefully, and make wise edits, including headings
- say what you have done on the talk page of the final page, remembering to sign it with ~~~~
I'm not speaking as an expert, nor as an experienced person. And there is a guide to merging at Wikipedia:Merging and moving pages, though it covers every angle. Just take it slow and step by step and you'll soon pick it up
As a caution, if you think a merge is likely to be disputed it is worth posing a discussion and using merge tags to alert people. Not discussion means - probably- that you can go ahead and just do it.
Like everything, after the first time, it gets easier. But you can also put {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions remarkably quickly. Of course you need to ask the question :). I had a question about disambiguation and a more eperienced editor gave me very straightforward advice when I did that.
Hope that helps a bit

Propeller (television channel)
[edit]Orfy, I'm surprise with your quick decision regarding Propeller (television channel) and Propeller TV. Normally these decisons are reach by mutual consent amongst the editors of the articles. For example, you never responded to my discusion on the article's talk page, which was the main forum. I would ask you to restore the Propeller TV article, and then entry into a mutual discussion on the propose merger. ant_ie 19:32, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
- Reckon Ant ie has a good point. But I somehow doubt it needs a heavyweight discussion, does it, Ant? I added a couple of thoughts under yours on the talk page. To me it looks like "good job well done but 'farce about ace'" (spoonerise with pleasure) by Orfy who is learning how and will get it right firts time very soon. We all make early errors, this one wasn't enormous, and is easily undone Fiddle Faddle 20:35, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
- Agree. Orfy, if are in agreement, I just like to see the article's name change. Let me know what you think.ant_ie 09:24, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
- Yep in complete agreement, sorry for the confusion. Didn't think to check the discussion page originally - Please go ahead with the title change. Cheers. Orfy 16:10, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
- pssst ~whispers in your ear~ Probably you should do it. Easy to do. Copy the lot from the "wrong" place to the "right place" and swap the redirects (check "what links here"). Also pleasant to patrol for "double redirects" and point those at the final home for the page. Actually that is more fun than it sounds. I've found some interesting articles while doing that and got quite absorbed Fiddle Faddle 16:43, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
