Please don’t bite me, I’m a newbie!
I’m a university student in a Wikipedia Education class, and I’m currently learning how to contribute to Wikipedia.
I am approaching my subject in good faith.
If you have any concerns or questions, my tutor’s name is Drinion00 (talk · contribs). Thanks!

[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate your contributions, but in one of your recent edits to Anti-Chinese violence in Washington, it appears that you have added original research, which is against Wikipedia's policies. Original research refers to material—such as facts, allegations, ideas, and personal experiences—for which no reliable, published sources exist; it also encompasses combining published sources in a way to imply something that none of them explicitly say. Please be prepared to cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. You can have a look at the tutorial on citing sources. Please stay within scope; for this article, only events that happened in, or had a major impact on Washington state should be covered. SounderBruce 08:33, 21 May 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you for editing this article, I appreciate it since as it is one of my university assessment tasks. I am not sure what area of the article you are referring to in regards to me using original research, if you could point me in the right direction, I will fix it as soon as I can. Thank you for specifying which Washington this article focuses on, it will help me with my research. Omerna17 (talk) 12:07, 21 May 2021 (UTC)
- Trying to link events from outside of Washington state (e.g. the Murder of Vincent Chin or events in Washington D.C.) without strong sources is considered synthesis of sources and is covered as part of WP:NOR. I would recommend finding a different topic if you are unfamiliar with U.S. geography, as the difference between Washington and Washington D.C. is confusing to foreigners but very obvious to Americans. Also, citations should include the full first name of the author if given, not just their first initial. SounderBruce 22:11, 21 May 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you for letting me know, I'll be more careful in the future. I fixed up all the citations to include the full first name of the author where applicable.Omerna17 (talk) 23:08, 21 May 2021 (UTC)
