Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute to the encyclopedia, but when you add or change content, as you did to the article Corymbia ficifolia, please cite a reliable source for your addition. This helps maintain our policy of verifiability. See Wikipedia:Citing sources for how to cite sources, and the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. While you did add a cite, it didn't support what it was citing which makes in unverifiable. Bidgee (talk) 08:16, 14 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The reference I was citing was the New Zealand Tree Register located on www.notabletrees.org.nz which lists a tree of this species known to be the largest recorded specimen in the world. After citing the reference an error was produced that required a reference section to be included. I was busy figuring out how to insert a reference list when my edit was removed.Oldtreeman (talk) 08:30, 14 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Nothing is stated on www.notabletrees.org.nz. It must be verifiable and stated by the source. Bidgee (talk) 08:34, 14 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Therefore you are saying i need to include the direct link to the citation rather that to the website where the citation can be found ie http://register.notabletrees.org.nz/tree/view/32</ Oldtreeman (talk) 08:44, 14 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed. This is the way to cite and as you may have noticed in the diff is that I've added a section call References with a {{reflist}} tag to make the cite work rather then give an error. Some articles will not have any cited sources so may lack a References section and/or {{reflist}} tag. Bidgee (talk) 08:51, 14 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your guidance - I was following the example of the reference to the tallest known tree on the Eucalyptus viminalis page but i see that this has been taken down for the same reasons - i picked a bad example!Oldtreeman (talk) 09:06, 14 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
