wikibreak?
I was beat to a CSD by a wikipedian on a break? Keep up the good work (on break or not). Chrislk02 Chris Kreider 18:21, 5 March 2014 (UTC)
- Er, yes. For some reason I've had a sudden itch to return! Probably ought to update the banner. Olaf Davis (talk) 22:54, 5 March 2014 (UTC)
- Great to see you back. fancy coming to London for a beer this Sunday? We are still meeting at the Oak. ϢereSpielChequers 13:50, 6 March 2014 (UTC)
- I may well do that! I have a very busy Friday and Saturday, so I'll see how tired I am. Olaf Davis (talk) 00:33, 7 March 2014 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for April 29
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Modified Toy Orchestra, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Skip (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Thanks for closing the AfD and deleting J. Jacob Jenkins. Along the way, J. Jacob Jenkins was moved to Jacob Jenkins, so the latter needs closing/ deleting, as well. Thanks, DA Sonnenfeld (talk) 13:03, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
- Oops! Thanks for pointing that out. Olaf Davis (talk) 15:23, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you! Kind regards, DA Sonnenfeld (talk) 15:49, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
filk close
Saw your filk close. Just a suggestion, as the subject of the AFD is transgender, your statement "that yes, it/he are notable" could be misread as a PA/BLP issue. I believe the "it" you are referring to is filk itself, but you may wish to clarify. Gaijin42 (talk) 15:44, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
- Oh god, that was certainly not my intention. Thanks for mentioning it Gaijin42 - I've altered the statement and apologised in case anyone did think that's what I meant. Olaf Davis (talk) 15:55, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
- I didn't think it was your intention, but on matters like this, its better safe than sorry. Gaijin42 (talk) 15:57, 29 April 2014 (UTC)

Mike Wrathell
Comment by Sowff (talk) 13:58, 29 April 2014 (UTC)Sowff to follow...... Sowff (talk) 13:58, 29 April 2014 (UTC)Sowff
Hello, Mr. Davis. While I understand the rationale behind the deletion of Mike Wrathell, there are more links to him from independent sources. Such as this one: [1]
http://www.freep.com/article/20081026/NEWS15/810260419/Underdogs-take-incumbents-Macomb-County
It is a shame the Chicago Tribune writer due to space limitations was unable to use Wrathell's name, but so be it. By the way, will the article itself be archived so that when enough references exist for Wikipedia's threshhold, it can be reinstated? Sowff (talk) 13:56, 29 April 2014 (UTC)Sowff
- Hi. Yes, if enough sources to justify an article come to light then I can restore the page for it to be improved - just ask me on this page. By the way, you might want to familiarise yourself with our conflict of interest guideline if you haven't already. Olaf Davis (talk) 01:29, 30 April 2014 (UTC)
G.Anastassiou
Hi Olaf Davis. I think deleting G.Anastassiou's page is very unfortunate. I spent hours on trying to save that page but nothing seemed the help. If there is anything I can do to save it please let me know. i would be greatly obliged. Thanks for your time. Guadalupe1960 (talk) 14:46, 2 May 2014 (UTC)
- As I said in my closing comments, the consensus in the debate was that he does not meet the general notability guideline. If you can find multiple reliable sources which give significant coverage to him then the article could be recreated. Olaf Davis (talk) 01:09, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
- Would the following work?
- He got a honorary doctoral degree ("Doctor Honoris Causa") from University of Oradea, Romania. Please see http://stiinte.uoradea.ro/ro/mate.htm
- He is an editor to The Australian Journal of Mathematical Analysis and Applications. Please see http://ajmaa.org/EditorsU/GAAnastassiou.php
- He is also an editor to The Journal of Nonlinear Evolution Equations and Applications (JNEEA). Please see http://www.jneea.com/?q=editors
- He was a member of the scientific committee of International Conference on Sciences, Oradea, Romania, November 12-14, 2009 - http://stiinte.uoradea.ro/conf2011/internationala/call%20fpr%20paper%20mate.pdf
- A conference (International Conference on Applied Mathematics and Approximation Theory Conference) in Turkey celebrated his 60th birthday. Please see http://amat2015.etu.edu.tr/amat2012/index.htm
- Would the following work?
- I am sure I can find more pages, but I wasn't sure if they count as secondary sources to meet the general notability guideline. Please let me know if I am on the right track and I will provide more sources. Thank you so much for your time and help. Guadalupe1960 (talk) 02:37, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
- I'm afraid I don't think those sources are of the type that's needed. Although they all mention him none of them really discuss him in depth - I wouldn't call them 'significant coverage'. And none of the achievements themselves, having an honorary doctorate or being a journal editor etc., confer notability. It looks like I didn't already link to the specific criteria for academics. Meeting any of those, or passing the GNG I linked to before, would confer notability. I'm still not convinced he does meet any of them. Olaf Davis (talk) 13:00, 4 May 2014 (UTC)
- I see. Thanks for your response. Guadalupe1960 (talk) 17:55, 4 May 2014 (UTC)
Often...
Note found on the page Category:Requests for unblock: "This table is updated as often as every 15 minutes. Last updated 3 days ago." I wonder what "as often as" means. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 10:08, 16 May 2014 (UTC)
Difficult sentence
Reading your comment at Talk:Non-standard cosmology, I paused for a couple of seconds to wonder what "not one Wikipedia" was supposed to mean, before suddenly realising how to parse the sentence correctly. Perhaps replacing "one" with "one which" would help to clarify the sentence structure, or maybe better still "a question which". The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 09:48, 27 April 2014 (UTC)
- Possibly. I'm not sure the conversation's going to go any further anyway, though. Olaf Davis (talk) 11:52, 28 April 2014 (UTC)
- No, but someone may still read the conversation at some time in the future. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 10:22, 16 May 2014 (UTC)
User:Phmilet unblock request
I've seconded your request for input from X! on Phmilet's unblock request, but I note that X! has not been very active lately. Given the time that has elapsed, I have no problem waiting another couple of days for X!'s response, especially given the holiday weekend, but perhaps not longer than that. Regards, Newyorkbrad (talk) 15:42, 23 May 2014 (UTC)
- Agreed. If we wait until Monday that brings it to a full week since X! has edited - perhaps then one of us could go ahead and unblock. Olaf Davis (talk) 22:34, 24 May 2014 (UTC)
- I've gone ahead and blocked the user, Newyorkbrad, and notified X!. Olaf Davis (talk) 00:44, 28 May 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you both for your time! And thanks for the welcome page, seems like I've got some reading to do. Phmilet (talk) 16:07, 28 May 2014 (UTC)

Mahfouz Marei Mubarak bin Mahfouz
Hi Olaf,
Hope you are well.
Regarding the page of Mahfouz Marei Mubarak bin Mahfouz, we have recreated it again with more wealthy information, pictures and references, however, unfortunately has been deleted again. Kindly, could you please have a look to it and advise to return and publish it.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and assistance.

- Hello Olaf, I still don't entirely trust the tagging system on Wikipedia, so I'm just dropping by to let you know that you've been mentioned here. Airplaneman ✈ 21:15, 10 September 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Midohmad (talk · contribs) and Airplaneman (talk · contribs), thanks for your messages. I'm afraid I have very limited time for Wikipedia at the moment, which is why I didn't reply to your email earlier. It's likely that Airplaneman or someone else may be in a better position to help you since I'm so slow to reply, but here are a couple of thoughts on your draft article under your user page. Although I haven't read every reference in detail, I'm *still* not convinced that any of them constitute the *significant, independent* coverage required by our guideline for inclusion as an article. As I said in a previous email, I think if you try to reinstate the article there's a strong chance it will be deleted again on those grounds. I simply don't see any evidence that he meets Wikipedia's standards for inclusion. Still, like I said I didn't read the references all in detail so I could be wrong.
- Secondly, did you take all the photos in the article yourself? That's what they've been tagged as, but if that's not the case then you need to either get permission from the copyright holders and update the tags on the image pages or else remove them - in general you *cannot* upload images to Wikipedia unless they are your own work or already published under a compatible license. Most of these look like publicity shots which I would imagine won't be - unless you yourself are in fact the photographer, in which case it's fine.
- I'm happy to reply to any other questions, though as I say I may be rather slow doing so. Olaf Davis (talk) 23:48, 15 September 2014 (UTC)
