[edit]I think you're absolutely right – see the discussion here. As I say there, we're in an odd situation where I'm sure Welch is wrong and you're right, but because she's the only reliable source we have (and her book is published by the museum at Bruce Castle, which I generally take as the final judge on facts regarding the history of Haringey given that they have access to all the archives and we don't) that mentions the hall, we're obliged to use her. (The 1920 map on page 42 of Welch shows just houses on the corner of Darwin Avenue where the current Shropshire Hall is.) But it makes no sense for them to build one hall and then an almost identical one up the road – my first thought was that maybe the original hall was so badly damaged in the war they built a new one, but that makes no sense since it would have been just as easy to rebuild it on the same site.
Very strange. As I say there, I've reworded it in a deliberately vague way so that it's correct either way, but it's still very irritating. – iridescent 18:38, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
