Help

How do I uninstall this thing? I deleted the line from my monobook.js page but it still up there when I'm editing a page. Furthermore, it doesn't seem to work correctly (I'm using windows xp with firefox 3.0.11), every time I click on a button it just reloads the entire page. And my usual WP toolbar isn't there (is that supposed to happen?). --ErgoSum•talk•trib 20:46, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

Press Shift + F5. No, it shouldn't be reloading the button. Perhaps a conflict with another script you have installer. Also, try using it through Greasemonkey. --Odie5533 (talk) 15:01, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

I tried that, it is still there. I have wikEd installed as well. Perhaps it will clear itself up, or is there something I can do? My edit toolbar is missing, thats my main problem. My guess would be a problem with your cache not clearing, or perhaps a deeper problem with Firefox. Try clearing your cache in Firefox. Also, visit your Monobook page and click edit. In the address bar, change action=edit to action=purge and hit enter. Click okay, then try refreshing the cache again. I've tried everything. I installed Greasemonkey, I purged the cache two different ways by clicking the purge clock and shift+reload. Nothing is working. I still can't see my edit toolbar and every time I try to use the SnipManager buttons it redirects me from the edit page to the article page. --ErgoSum•talk•trib 16:53, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

Try opening Wikipedia in a different browser (Chrome, IE, Opera) and logging in (you must log in). See if SnipManager is still there. If it is, then you know it is a problem with your Wikipedia account. If it's not, then you know it is a problem with your Firefox cache. The steps taken to resolve each are completely different, so please let me know which it is and I will try to help you from there. --Odie5533 (talk) 19:33, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

The next step, and possibly last as far as I can take you, is to narrow down where the script is coming from. To do this, please install the Web Developer extension for Firefox (you can easily remove it later if you like). Load an edit page in Wikipedia. On the Web Developer toolbar click Information -> View JavaScript. Then press [Ctrl] + [F] to bring up a search box. Type in "SnippetManager" without the quotes (Note: I used SnippetManager as the name of the program while coding, so searching for SnipManager will return no results). Locate the line and then begin scrolling up until you reach a larger font and bold header. That header will list where SnipManager is being sent to you from, and the faulty (?) script.

Are you sure you've emptied the cache on each browser? Perhaps you have Greasemonkey installed and don't realize it, and that combined with a non-emptied cache could give the illusion of it never going away. Just something to check on. --Odie5533 (talk) 12:22, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

Editing existing refs

I just installed this and want to thank you for it—it is much better than what is built in to the RefToolbar gadget. I'm having some problems, though. When I click on the tab "References", I get two sub-tabs, displayed below the template names. The ones in the "Citations" sub-tab work well; but the "References" sub-tab isn't functional (No refs, No notes, Cite check, Notability, More refs, More notes, Prim sources, One source). Was this meant to be in the "Cleanup" tab? These all seem to be names of cleanup templates. Did I install something incorrectly? Thanks!—D'Ranged 1 ^talk 16:40, 23 May 2014 (UTC)

Update: more info. The only other script I have on my vector.js page is 'User:Ohconfucius/script/MOSNUM dates.js'; is there a conflict? I just noticed that none of the buttons under the "Cleanup" tab seem to work. Also, is there a way for me to add other reference templates? Or modify the ones you have? The buttons in the References sub-tab are basically cleanup tags such as {{unreferenced}} and {{no footnotes}}. So the display of the sub-tab is correct. What other reference templates do want added/modified? --Odie5533 (talk) 18:29, 23 May 2014 (UTC)

I understand what the References sub-tab buttons are for; it would be is great to have them at hand instead of having to go looking for the correct "Notify" template when it's needed. I just wonder if they more properly belong in the Cleanup tab? (Not a big deal—so grateful to have them handy! Location aside, they don't do anything when I click them—none of the buttons in the References subtab or the Cleanup tab work. (I just tried them here and they're working now—maybe the server had to catch up or something. Sorry.) As for additional templates, I'm playing around with adding a {{cite press release}} module; I'll see if I can do it and, if I can't, come back to you for help. It's not a priority, believe me. Thank you for the praise, and I'm glad you like the script. There's basically no good reason why the buttons are there other than it might over-crowd the Cleanup tab if people aren't using a large monitor. I added the {{Cite press release}} template to the script. I've had to use it before manually, and it's a useful template so it should probably be in SnipManager. If you're using Greasemonkey you'll need to reinstall the script to update it, and if you're using the Wikipedia script page then you'll need to refresh your browser's cache probably by press [CTRL] + [SHIFT] + [R], or clearing your cache manually. Works like a charm! You're quick! I can't tell you how much I appreciate your tool and your responsiveness—I know stuff like this goes largely unthanked and all folks do is complain; you deserve lots of praise for your work. (I'm not usually this effusive; it's late, I haven't had much sleep and I'm "EWT" (Editing While Tired)—which is rather dangerous; SnipManager is a very helpful tool to cut down on my mistakes. If you'd like to see the extent of my citation "massaging", check out Virginia Tech Massacre, which is a topic close to home, and Attila, that I got involved with because there were broken parameters in citations on the page. Snip Manager updates

Hi—

You may not have realized, but a few parameters have been deprecated from the citation templates that your Snip Manager calls. In particular, |coauthor=/|coauthors=, |day=, and |month=.

You can find the list of valid parameters being used by the templates at Module:Citation/CS1/Whitelist; those marked with 'false' have been deprecated and should be removed from your script. (I checked; only the ones listed above are called in the script.)

I hope you don't mind; I created a referral page at User talk:Odie5533/SnipManager.user.js; I was looking at the actual source code and wanted to leave you this note; I clicked on the Talk page link and it prompted me to create the page. That's when I realized I shouldn't be leaving a comment on the Talk page for the code. Now if someone else who is as clueless as I am clicks the link, it will redirect here.

You're welcome; thank you for being so responsive! Using templates with the deprecated parameters puts them in a category of articles needing to be fixed—currently, there are about 73,000 of them. Some of the errors aren't easily fixed by bots, so eliminating the addition of templates using the wrong parameters will reduce future workload.
