Gary Green

[edit]

You do realize that you're not supposed to put a page up before it's finished? Anyway, sorry, my mistake. Porterjoh 19:08, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, I'm new to wikipedia. How do you do that? Oddibe 19:09, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Finish the page before pressing save. Anyway sorry I was a little overzealous. There just seemed to be no context. Porterjoh 19:11, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, how's it going? Welcome to wikipedia. Are you really McDowell, played in the majors? By the way I am from Greenfield (Pittsburgh), my pap coached Gary Green when he played little league. -RiverHockey 17:16, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

DEFAULTSORT and category sorting

[edit]

Just FYI: 1) the text that appears after the "|" in a category statement is used as a "sort key" for sorting the entry within the category page, and is not displayed anywhere or used for any other purpose 2) If an article has a DEFAULTSORT statement, that value is used whenever a Category has no "sort key" Many people prefer to have one DEFAULTSORT and leave the category entries blank (except when they want to override the DEFAULTSORT, for some unusual reason), because they find it easier to maintain one line, and new categorie lines don't have to be edited to sort correctly. Southwest Tower Building

[edit]

A {{prod}} template has been added to the article Southwest Tower Building, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please tag it with {{db-author}}. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 15:55, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Austin Weirdos section on Keep Austin Weird article

[edit]

I've removed this section per WP:BLP. Please provide sources before readding potentially contentious material about living persons to this article. --OnoremDil 13:39, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm glad you started the article on Greg Ballard, but you can't just copy one's bio from his campaign website, as that is a copyright issue. Only directly copy from websites if they were done by the federal government, or if the original phrase was done before 1923. You're new, so you are learning, so please see this as advice and not an attack.--Bedford 05:45, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, my bad. You weren't the one who did it.--Bedford 05:48, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Youppi

[edit]

I did some googling, and found nothing about Youppi in the U.P., and nothing about a "youper tourist program" either. Can you back up these claims with anything? Foobaz·o< 19:54, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Are you really?

[edit]

Are you really Oddibe McDowell? If so, glad you're here! I'm a big baseball fan, and I remember you playing for the Rangers. I think I might even still have a card of yours, maybe a couple. I even know that you were the first Ranger to hit for the cycle. One record that can never be broken!! Keeper | 76 21:47, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Soooo, you are not Oddibe, but you played with him in '86? And you talk to him personally about his opinions of Wikipedia, and use Oddibe as your username? Sounds strange. Keeper | 76 21:30, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

KXAN

[edit]

I'm sorry, but can you please explain to me how an arrest for DWI is encyclopedic? You are editing what is merely a list of names and positions, not biographies or rap sheets. I'd also like to point out I have zero connection to KXAN, I don't even watch anything the station broadcasts and know no one who works for them, so this isn't "KXAN censorship". It's merely trying to keep the information in the article encyclopedic. Thank you. Paxsimius (talk) 00:35, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I understand your frustration. However, does this mean it's okay to put it in Wikipedia? And is it encyclopedic? These are the questions you have to answer before you add it to the KXAN-TV or any other article. I could go on about how other news outlets in Austin have dealt with it and whether they covered it or not, but really, the point is Wikipedia specific - is Wikipedia the proper forum for what you are trying to do? Paxsimius 00:06, 1 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I must point out to you, as I pointed out in Talk:KXAN-TV, the what you are insisting on putting in the article is in violation of WP:BLP. If you really want to keep it in there, then I suggest you take this matter up with an administrator, as I intend to do so if you keep restoring the statement about Michelle Valles.Paxsimius 18:56, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you change it back something bad shall happen to you! Don't mess with Paxsimius fool! ChesterCharge 19:46, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry for ChesterCharge's comment. I do not support it, nor do I know who he/she is. I only handle situations in Wikipedia in a civil matter as I expect anyone else to. As it's been said on many a discussion board, it's best to ignore the trolls. Be that as it may, User:ChazBeckett is a very experienced editor who has offered his services to sort out differences in Wikipedia, and his recommendation is to leave the arrest out of the article. Please, do not include it again; next time I will turn to the abovementioned noticeboard for help in the matter. This is established Wikipedia policy with precident. As far NPOV on my part, you are welcome to look at all of my previous contributions to Wikipedia and point out any time I may have violated this policy, and specifically any time I have edited articles concerning KXAN, its employees or its programming. Golic and steroids

[edit]

I'm not saying that Golic didn't make the statements about steroids being no worse than speeding or jaywalking, but unless someone else reports about it, it's not notable enough information to include in his article. We don't update the article every time he makes a statement on his show.
Without a reference to verify your statement about his injury not being something that a person would treat with steroids, the comment will not remain in the article. Please review WP:BLP if you have any questions about that.
Also, your statement about my acting like his agent or son was inappropriate. Please avoid statements like that in the future. I'm just a regular editor that prefers to see sources for potentially contentious statements in articles about people. --OnoremDil 15:55, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please see WP:SYNTH...and your links don't back your statements anyway. I still don't see why his comment about speeding/jaywalking is important, but I won't fight on that for now. I will remove the comments about steroids not being used to recover from injury if you don't do it yourself or provide a better argument and source. --OnoremDil 20:33, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
