User talk:Oddbodz/WikiProject Admin Recruitment
How to go about it
[edit]I've added my name to this project but i would like to see some concrete suggestions. I've answered dozens of reqeusts for advice and nominations over the years, and made offline attempts at recruiting many more users of the right calibre, but I still keep coming up with the same results: The vast majority of those who ask me for advice or outright nomination are just no where near ready for adminship, while those whom I have contacted nearly all say that obtaining the the tools is not worth going through the RfA process - and I'm talking about users who would have a clear, uncontentious pass. - Would this page be useful for this project? Should we actively pursue prospective candidates or are we supposed to wait for them come to us? AutomaticStrikeout (₵) 01:23, 29 November 2013 (UTC)
- While I assume good faith on the creation of any such pages, I do not belive that page would be of particular help. A while back, we created this page but as you'll see if you examine the list of participants, some of them may not have the required experience themselves to be doing this. Those who have, have garnered the same results as I have described above. We are constantly searching for suitable candidates, but as this deliberately takes place over email, it may look as if nothing is being done. One thing is for sure however: those who have the 'I want to be an admin some day' userbox on their user pages are mostly, for obvious reasons, on the bottom of the list. - Ok, so we are now back to the question(s) of what this project can do and how we would do it. AutomaticStrikeout (₵) 01:58, 29 November 2013 (UTC)

- Frankly, I don't know. As you know, I spearheaded RfA reform for a long time and still comment regularly at WT:RfA, but over the years I've exhausted all my ideas. Because I (and others) have the evidence (which we cannot disclose on-Wiki), I remain firmly convinced that the only solution is for RfA to become less intimidating. This does not however necessarily mean lowering the bar. The majority of posters at WT:RfA appear to do little else than repeatedly complain about admins in general, and those who do have ideas seem to be reluctant to offer them to to community through RfC. That said, it does appear as if the process is slowly cleaning itself up, but there are still too few RfAs to clearly demonstrate such a trend. Perhaps when we have another six months of RfAs without any stupid votes or comments, we'll know more. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 03:59, 29 November 2013 (UTC)
