File permission problem with File:Rotjan - Enderbury Day 1 - 2nd half (62).JPG
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Rotjan - Enderbury Day 1 - 2nd half (62).JPG. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.
If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-enwikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-enwikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Dwayne was here! talk 21:28, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
Copyright issues: Phoenix Islands Protected Area
[edit]Hello, Ocean.conservation.
I'm afraid that recently an editor noticed that some of the content in this article is duplicated in the official website for the islands. Research into the issue disclosed that quite a lot of it seems to be taken from official publications such as [1], [2], and [3].
While I realize that you may be an authorized agent of one or more of these organizations, I'm afraid that our copyright policies do not permit us to accept material published from other sources without verification that the material is compatibly licensed or public domain. In the case of UNESCO publications, it is clear that they are not, as they restrict usage of their content solely for non-commercial and personal purposes. The Phoenix Islands Protected Area also claim copyright on their website: "© 2007-2012 Phoenix Islands Protected Area. All Rights Reserved." The Invasive Species Specialist Group does the same: "© Copyright 2008 ISSG "
Because we do not have verification that this material is compatibly licensed or public domain, material that has been found to duplicate prior publications has been removed from this article. This removal is not necessarily permanent, however. The content can be restored once usability under our copyright policies is verified.
If you are authorized to release the content of any of these organizations under a compatible license, please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for the procedure for doing so. Because multiple organizations are involved, the easiest method would probably be to put a note on the associated websites of any organization releasing content; they are welcome to restrict the release specifically to as much information as was placed in the article Phoenix Island prior to the removal of this material - that is, as it appeared in June 2013. Please note that their release cannot be simply permitted the material to be on Wikipedia. In accordance with our own licensing, the content must be released at least under license compatible with the Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike, which permits both commercial reuse and modification. (More information about that is available on Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.)
Of course, if this material cannot be released under the Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike license, you are welcome to add back the information removed, only using original language. Wikipedia:Copy-paste includes a little more information on our general approach to using content from copyrighted sources, including how limited quotations and paraphrase are utilized.
If you have any questions about any of this, please either come by my talk page (User talk:Moonriddengirl) or place them here with the following code: {{ping|Moonriddengirl}}
. This will help ensure that I don't overlook your note.
Thank you, and I do apologize for the complication. Since we do not have any means of identifying people on account creation and since copyright is a legal issue, we are required to take these steps to make sure that we are compliant with the law. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 11:48, 28 August 2013 (UTC)
