Linking to websites that display copyrighted works is acceptable as long as the website's operator has created or licensed the work. New mailing list for Wikimedians in Ireland
[edit]Hello Occono:
I'm delighted to announce that we've started a new Ireland Wikimedian email list, that you can join, at mail:WikimediaIE. For Wikimedians in Ireland and Wikimedians interested in events in Ireland and efforts in Ireland. It's there to to discuss meetups, partnerships with Museums and National Archives, and anything else where Wikipedia and real life intersect. --Bastique demandez 16:14, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Hijinks Ensue (webcomic)
[edit]A tag has been placed on Hijinks Ensue (webcomic) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for web content.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Welcome!
[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia, Occono! I am Occono and have been editing Wikipedia for quite some time. I just wanted to say hi and welcome you to Wikipedia! If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page or by typing {{helpme}} at the bottom of this page. I love to help new users, so don't be afraid to leave a message! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:
- Introduction
- The five pillars of Wikipedia
- How to edit a page
- Help pages
- How to write a great article
- Manual of Style
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Oh yeah, I almost forgot, when you post on talk pages you should sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); that should automatically produce your username and the date after your post. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and ask your question there. Again, welcome!

New USER = I REALLY need help!
[edit]Dear Occono!
Thank you for your note! You seem to be a lifesaver. I'm quite dissapointed, because I've been trying to put together my husband's page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L%C3%A1szl%C3%B3_Marton) for a while now, and it's a complete disaster!
First I got a tag saying I'm not citing sources or references and when I did, I got another tag saying: "This article or section appears to have been copied and pasted from a source, possibly in violation of a copyright." THIS IS NOT TRUE, so how do I prove it?
Everything I quote is from a book I, MYSELF wrote about my husban's theatrical work, or I'm citing (with dates and names) theatre reviews, which is quite natural for a theatre director.
Please, let me know what is it, I'm doing wrong!
And thank you for the cookies! :)

[edit]Hi, you asked here what "DA" is. The initialism is spelt out in the title of the page: "date autoformatting". This is now a deprecated function. If you'd like more information, please buzz me on my talk page. BTW, I don't understand the left-arrow redirect thing in your edit summary. Tony (talk) 03:41, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
It was mentioned in the article which I had listed as a reference, but through my own fault it hadn't been cited properly so I can understand why you removed the statement. The Full Points Footy website is referenced to in hundreds of Australian rules football wikipedia biographies and is one of the most reliable sources available on the web for this sport. His half-time smoking is also referred to in a book that I have but I'm not confident on how to properly cite literature. However if you think a second citation is required I'll see what I can do. Got to learn someday!. Cheers. Jevansen (talk) 22:05, 22 August 2009 (UTC)

DMHO
[edit]I didn't mean to mark my revert of the DMHO hoax article as undoing vandalism - did I? I reverted it because the text within that box, a direct quote of the original Web site, has been much discussed over the years; a sudden change to it made by an anonymous IP without backup can safely be assumed as an error, I think. If it gets returned with backup, then fine! - DavidWBrooks (talk) 19:36, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
- I was too lazy to put in a reason for that revert of an anon ... I probably should have. - DavidWBrooks (talk) 19:45, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

I don't understand your motivation on canging my Prop 8 edits. Seems unnecessary. Please refrain from changing them, only if they do not coincide with the gay agenda. Good Article Nomination
[edit]You nominated Film noir for GA status. I have begun a review here: Talk:Film noir/GA1. I trust you will be able to participate. maclean (talk) 03:37, 26 September 2009 (UTC)
- The writing and images are looking good so far, but WP:GA? requires more citations. As noted on the review page, the article has several instances of 'published opinion' and debatable/'counter-intuitive statements' without an inline citation to a specific source. So you assistance could be used in citing these statements to reliable sources. --maclean (talk) 18:33, 26 September 2009 (UTC)
The Wikipedia Story
[edit]Hi. I see you created The Wikipedia Story, about the Clive Anderson documentary programme. Unfortunately the same article (in fairness a rather more comprehensive version) was considered in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Wikipedia Story, with the conclusion that it should be redirected to History of Wikipedia. Given that those commenting in that discussion made that decision based mostly on notability, and that the new article is much the same as the old (with no real evidence that it's become more notable or important since) I'm afraid I've redirected it per that discussion. I'm sorry to trample your entirely good-faith work, and I do hope you won't be too discouraged ;( -- Finlay McWalter • Talk 15:26, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

Re: image
[edit]It's not really relevant there either. An image of the chief of staff and senior enlisted advisor of a different branch speaking to Marines doesn't really illustrate much of anything, ecxept a lecture in an auditorium. It's not even a very good photo of the CNO or MCPON, anyway; there are far better images at Commons. There is really no need for it to be anywhere, really; I can't think of any instances where it would be particularly relevant (that doesn't already have a better image). bahamut0013wordsdeeds 16:00, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

Added template for SuggestBot
[edit]Hi,
Thanks for being one of SuggestBot's users! I hope you have found the bot's suggestions useful.
We are in the process of switching from our previous list-based signup process to using templates and userboxes, and I have therefore added the appropriate template to your user talk page. You should receive the first set of suggestions within a day, and since we'll be automating SuggestBot you will from then on continue to receive them regularly at the desired frequency.
We now also have a userbox that you can use to let others know you're using SuggestBot, and if you don't want to clutter your user talk page the bot can post to a sub-page in your userspace. More information about the userbox and usage of the template is available on User:SuggestBot/Getting Recommendations Regularly.
If there are any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me on my user talk page. Thanks again, Nettrom (talk) 16:12, 4 February 2011 (UTC)

Appropriate usage and compliance with the policy may be checked periodically, due to the nature of block exemption, and block exemption will be removed when no longer needed (for example, when the block it is related to expires).
I hope this will enhance your editing, and allow you to edit successfully and without disruption. Daniel Case (talk) 03:40, 8 February 2012 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free media (File:Channel 101 logo.png)
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Channel 101 logo.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:05, 6 September 2012 (UTC)
- Permission to use the image is not enough- it would still have to meet our non-free content guidelines and policies, which include a low resolution. In order for an image to be used as you wish, it must be released under a free license, such as Creative Commons AttributionShare Alike 3.0. If the image was released like that, you would have to prove it by forwarding an email from the copyright holder with an explicit release to permissions-en@wikimedia.org. This will then be dealt with by an OTRS volunteer; in the meantime, you can tag the image page with {{OTRS pending}}. If you have any further questions, please contact me on my talk page. Thanks, J Milburn (talk) 07:58, 6 September 2012 (UTC)

Legislative veto
[edit]Rather than making a stub even more of a stub, you might consider the tags
The examples and perspective in this article may not represent a worldwide view of the subject. |
and
The examples and perspective in this article deal primarily with the United States and do not represent a worldwide view of the subject. |
and other variations. No matter what material is added to such an entry first, the entry would be biased in its coverage of that country simply by virtue of its being first. So encouraging people to add might be a better strategy than removing material, which I carefully kept to a minimum so as not to overwhelm this tiny entry with US stuff in the first place. Bmclaughlin9 (talk) 16:54, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
- These aren't infoboxes.
- It's not a question of the entry being a stub. It's still a stub. But less is not more in a case like this. I don't see how removing info helped the end user or encouraged more editorial input. Bmclaughlin9 (talk) 18:02, 25 January 2013 (UTC)

[edit]Nomination of Early anthropocene for deletion
[edit]A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Early anthropocene is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Early anthropocene until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.
Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. NewsAndEventsGuy (talk) 23:57, 17 February 2013 (UTC)

Walter Görlitz (talk) 17:15, 1 March 2013 (UTC)
The article List of iconic dresses has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Article is subjective and unsourced and does not meet the standards of WP:LIST.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Andrew327 09:19, 3 March 2013 (UTC)
Article Feedback deployment
[edit]Hey Occono; I'm dropping you this note because you've used the article feedback tool in the last month or so. On Thursday and Friday the tool will be down for a major deployment; it should be up by Saturday, failing anything going wrong, and by Monday if something does :). Nintendo POV-pushing
[edit]The addition you made at Nintendo was undone because it was too heavily biased towards users who create content using Nintendo's intellectual property. If you add in concerns and rationale that Nintendo has towards this program, all sourced reliably, then this might be worth adding. I would suggest opening a discussion on the article's talk page and building consensus towards adding this in; for more details on this process, please review this section. Thanks for your contributions ... happy editing! --McDoobAU93 04:54, 26 May 2013 (UTC)

[edit]I patrolled your page. I went through the enormously-backlogged list of newly-created pages and confirmed that your page was okay: not spam, not an attack page, not a copyright violation, not any of the other reasons for which I would delete someone's page without asking. Then I clicked "patrolled" to remove it from the list of "pages that have not yet been patrolled", and moved on to the next entry. That's all. DS (talk) 18:24, 2 August 2013 (UTC)

The copy edit you requested from the Guild of Copy Editors of the article David Macaulay has been completed.
I took the liberty of adding a few more citations to support some of the awards he has been given. I noticed that in a number of cases you used several citations to support one statement. As a rule Wikipedia requires only one reputable source per statement.
