Speedy deletion nomination of User:OmahaMagazineEditor
[edit]A tag has been placed on your user page, User:OmahaMagazineEditor, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be advertising which only promotes or publicises someone or something. Promotional editing of any kind is not permitted, whether it be promotion of a person, company, product, group, service, belief, or anything else. This is a violation of our policies regarding acceptable use of user pages — user pages are intended for active editors of Wikipedia to communicate with one another as part of the process of creating encyclopedic content, and should not be mistaken for free webhosting resources or advertising space. Please read the guidelines on spam, the guidelines on user pages, and, especially, our FAQ for Organizations.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. SL93 (talk) 21:39, 29 October 2018 (UTC)

[edit]If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}}
at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:
- Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
- Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
{{unblock|Your reason here}}
at the bottom of your talk page, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. 331dot (talk) 22:24, 29 October 2018 (UTC)Group accounts are not allowed, nor are accounts that represent a position rather than an individual(I assume editor refers to the editor of the magazine). Please select a single individual to use this account and request a new username. You will also need to review conflict of interest and paid editing. 331dot (talk) 22:26, 29 October 2018 (UTC)

Regardless of the block appeal, you obviously have a direct conflict of interest when it comes to the Omaha Magazine. I strongly suggest you read and understand Wikipedia:Conflict of interest before continuing any further. If you have questions, let me know. Thanks, --Hammersoft (talk) 23:17, 29 October 2018 (UTC)

Request reason:
The OmahaMagazineEditor user is my own, and I do work as an editor at Omaha Magazine. I now understand this was a mistake. Sorry. My intent was to maintain full transparency of COI in good faith of the guidelines of Wikipedia. If my IP address is unblocked, I would like to only associate my Wikipedia account with a different individual user account, and I will disclose the COI in my user account. I cannot do this while the IP address is blocked, however. I would like to suggest an article about Omaha Magazine for inclusion in Wikipedia by tagging my Omaha Magazine article draft with the code outlined in the guidelines on Wikipedia for "Articles for Creation" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_creation or by creating a new draft with that same tag. Does that comply with Wikipedia standards? My intent is not to promote the magazine but to share the history of this long-running publication on Wikipedia. Thank you!
Decline reason:
You forgot to pick a new username. You'll also want to tell us what you plan to write about other than Omaha Magazine. Yamla (talk) 11:32, 31 October 2018 (UTC)
If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
- No, unblocking your IP address and then you creating a new account is not allowed while this account is blocked. What needs to happen is for you to request a new username as instructed in the block message, and then this account can be renamed - and unblocked if the reviewing admin approves. Someone else will review this block. Please note that other media outlets having articles does not automatically mean yours merits one too. Each article is judged on its own merits, please see WP:OSE. Every article subject must meet the relevant notability criteria. For example, not every magazine merits an article here, even if some might. What matter is if the article subject is written about with in depth coverage in independent reliable sources. Articles for Creation is for submitting drafts; I think you are talking about using Requested Articles to suggest articles to be created. I wouldn't oppose you suggesting that someone create an article about your magazine, but is there anything else you want to do on Wikipedia not related to your magazine? 331dot (talk) 20:58, 31 October 2018 (UTC)
I've renamed your account, and someone else will review your request. 331dot (talk) 20:59, 31 October 2018 (UTC)
I have used Wikipedia before as an instructor at the University of Hong Kong's school of journalism in 2008-2011, with students creating pages for local historical and cultural institutions. I do not have access to my email or username from when I was teaching at HKU and made my prior account. In my work as an educator, I think the idea of an open-source encyclopdia and students making a contribution to the record of local history is a fascinating approach to education with real-world engagement. I am not actively teaching now, but I do take teaching jobs off and on. I am personally active in writing about history in the course of my work at Omaha Magazine, and I am active in local historic preservation initiatives. I do not have specific plans for other Wikipedia articles right at this moment. My intention was not that Omaha Magazine needs a page because other media have one. Omaha Magazine has existed in many forms in Omaha dating back to the 1890s. There have been interesting turns of events that led to the previous incarnation closing in the late 80s and the evolution of the new and current form of the magazine. I thought this was an interesting contribution to the record of Omaha media history. Maybe this is all a waste of time. This whole exchange in regards to a username in which I was making full disclosure of COI, as opposed to discussion of the actual content of the suggested article, is very discouraging of future involvement with Wikipedia.
