[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute to the encyclopedia, but when you add or change content, as you did to the article Jeffrion Aubry, please cite a reliable source for the content of your edit. This helps maintain our policy of verifiability. Take a look at Wikipedia:Citing sources for information about how to cite sources and the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. — raekyT 17:34, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Jeffrion Aubry. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24-hour period. Additionally, users who perform several reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. When in dispute with another editor you should first try to discuss controversial changes to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. Should that prove unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection. If the edit warring continues, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. — raekyT 17:52, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
This is the final warning you will receive regarding your disruptive edits. The next time you disrupt Wikipedia, as you did to Hakeem Jeffries, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. — raekyT 22:20, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first. -- Ed (Edgar181) 22:24, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
We have been blocked by user Edgar181 for using Wikipedia for "advertising purposes". However, we have brought to the attention of the Wikipedia editors (specifically raeky T) the corrections we wished to make to the Hakeem Jeffries and Jeff Aubry wiki pages. When we were making initial edits we were new to wikipedia editing and unaware of the "peacockery and weasel words" rule. Now that we have changed the wording and only included factual data, we would like to be unblocked. We now understand the rules of editing and will only make corrections of factual data with citations.
Thank you. ~~nycapple123
Unblock request
[edit]{{unblock|My apologies to wikipedia. We are new editors of wikipedia and we were attempting to update two pages for our clients: Jeffrion Aubry and Hakeem Jeffries, both NYS Assemblymen. With Assemblyman Aubry, the existing photo was not Assemblyman Aubry (there is a picture of two men and a dog). We changed the photo to a photo of the Assemblyman and also updated his biography. With Assemblyman Jeffries, the photo that was there was not of good quality so we replaced it with a higher resolution photo. We also updated his bio and added some external links. If the issue is that we need more citation, then that's fine; all of the information that we provided is on their official websites and some of it is also on the official NYS Assembly website. We didn't realize that you were trying to contact us, which is why it may appear that we were being disruptive. Again, we are new users. Please accept our apologies. Let us please know what we can do to be unblocked and update the pages. Thanks kindly. Nycapple123 (talk) 6:41 pm, Today (UTC−4)}}
Unblock Discussion
[edit]- The issues are, (pages you need to read), you obviously have a conflict of interest, so your direct editing of these articles is highly discouraged. These articles are biographies of living people, and as such there are strict verifiability and reliable source concerns. Using his campaign website is considered a primary source, which is not allowed, we require reliable secondary sources (news articles, etc..) to backup ANY claim. There was also HEAVY peacock and weasel terms used throughout those edits, which are again highly discouraged, specifically in BLP's. Another concern is that you consistently ignored warnings, advice and violated our three revert policy, thus you got banned. And finally the two images you uploaded (File:Hakeem_Jeffries.JPG and File:Jeffrion Aubry.JPG) are apparent copyright violations, to keep them from being deleted you need to provide explicit written permission from the stated authors/copyright holders that they release them under your chosen license, directions for that is found here. Please explain how you plan to address all of these concerns and not be in violation of our policies again? — raekyT 22:48, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
With respect to the conflict of interest, that’s fair and we can suggest to someone else to update the pages, however, the photo is NOT of Assemblyman Aubry. At minimum, I would like to change the photo.
If using their campaign websites are not allowed, the information that has been provided is also on the NYS Assembly website and can be sourced there.
As I mentioned in my first post, because we are new users and editors of Wikipedia, we were unaware that you were attempting to reach us because we were doing something wrong. I apologized for that before and I apologize again. I will replace both assemblymen’s photos with their official state photo since those photos are free for public use.

- Which image specifically is wrong, and I'll remove it. — raekyT 23:07, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
- To add more, each time we reverted you we left messages in the edit history, which you would see if you saw the Page History, likewise I warned you several times on your talk page above about issues. A big thing we have here at Wikipedia is our neutral point of view policy, the wording and a lot of the information you was trying to add was in conflict with that neutral view. I suggest you make a list of which parts of the articles you think is wrong and needs reworded, and suggest the edits here and we'll address them. If you have news articles, and other third-party sources about these gentlemen, we can use them also as sources to improve the article. But we can't just bulk-copy their campaign profiles onto wikipedia and remain neutral. — raekyT 23:10, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

- Incorrect Jeffrion Aubry photo This is the incorrect photo: File:Gregball5.jpg. Thank you for removing. Nycapple123 (talk) 23:10, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
- I just commented out the picture at Jeffrion Aubry. Out of curiosity, do you know who the people are in that picture? TNXMan 23:11, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
I'm not 100% sure about who the people in the photo are but I can find that out. In fact, Assemblyman Aubry knows who they are so I will ask him. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nycapple123 (talk • contribs) 23:19, 2 August 2010
A fair wiki policy
[edit]Thank you for your suggestions on how to update the page. Again, I apologize for our lack of response to your warnings. Once we figured out what was happening, I responded (and even how to respond was a learning process for us). Some of the information in Assemblyman Jeffries' wiki page in particular is factually questionable. We will gather all of the information, cite the proper sources and send to you for verification. Thank you for your quick response. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nycapple123 (talk • contribs) 23:14, 2 August 2010

Proposed Edits Jeffrion Aubry
[edit]Below find our bolded proposed edits, along with citations. We are currently working on fixing the copyright information for the photo we would like to post also.
Thank you for your consideration and time (and patience with new users).
Edits for Jeffrion Aubry:
- Jeffrion L. Aubry (born Feb. 8th, 1948) represents District 35 in the New York State Assembly, which comprises East Elmhurst, LeFrak City, and parts of Corona, Woodside, Jackson Heights and Elmhurst. http://nymap.elections.state.ny.us/nysboe/map.asp
- Done The problems with this map (http://nymap.elections.state.ny.us/MaptitudeTempFiles/aa43099.png) is that it's not labeled, and I can't identify Woodside, Jackson Heights. But according to Google maps, it looks as if, Woodside and Jackson Heights are within the marked areas on that map. So I will add this change using that map as the reference. — raekyT 20:18, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
- Chosen in a special election in 1992, Aubry is the current Chairman of the Corrections Committee, as well as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Airports and Economic Development (this is not true, and no longer exists, Aubry is not even a member of the Economic Development Committee) http://assembly.state.ny.us/comm/?sec=mem&id=11 http://assembly.state.ny.us/comm/
- Done Using this reference for which committees hes currently on. — raekyT 20:41, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
- and a member of several other standing committees, including Economic Development, Ways and Means, Rules, and Governmental Employees. He is also a member of the Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic & Asian Legislative Caucus. http://assembly.state.ny.us/comm/?sec=mem&id=11
- Done Redflag, hes not on "Economic Development, Job Creation, Commerce and Industry Committee" according to [1] and [2]. I added all that the website lists hes on. — raekyT 20:47, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
- Could we separate the committee's he's a member of from his membership in the Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic & Asian Legislative Caucus. The way it is now sounds like the Caucus is a committee. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nycapple123 (talk • contribs)

- As the Chairman of Corrections he introduced The Drug Law Reform, Drug Treatment and Crime Reduction Act of 2001, also known as the reform of the Rockefeller Drug Laws. http://assembly.state.ny.us/Reports/2001drugreform/ http://glrfireplace.albanygovernmentlawreview.org/2009/06/16/a-response-to-reforming-rockefeller-drug-laws/
Redflag, I'll add [4] that source that he introduced that law, but [5] is a blog, and I don't feel comfortable using blog sources for a BLP. Is there a better source that discusses the reform of the Rockefeller Drug Laws? — raekyT 20:51, 3 August 2010 (UTC)- http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/05/nyregion/05rockefeller.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nycapple123 (talk • contribs)

- Assemblyman Aubry also serves as the chairman of the board of the Council of State Governments’ Justice Center, a national organization which provides technical assistance to states to develop data driven consensus supported criminal justice policies to reduce crime and decrease the cost of incarceration nationwide. http://www.justicecenter.csg.org/about_us/background http://www.justicecenter.csg.org/about_us/board
- Done I'll add this and sources. — raekyT 21:10, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
- Prior to his election to the Assembly, Aubry served in a number of capacities within city government including as the Director of Economic Development for the Office of the Borough President of Queens and as the Queens representative to the Economic Development Corporation of the City of New York. He has also served as the Chairman of the Small Business Development Center's Advisory board at York College and as a consultant for Massand Associates-an engineering firm-within the private sector. For sixteen years he served as an employee of Elmcor Youth and Adult Activities (a not-for-profit organization), holding various positions including Executive Director, http://www.votesmart.org/bio.php?can_id=4250
RedflagThis source doesn't backup the not-for-profit claim, but I can use it to state he held Executive Director position, although a more direct source would be ideal here. [6] doesn't seem that ... reliable. — raekyT 21:22, 3 August 2010 (UTC)- Done [7] will work as a source for the not-for-profit statement. — raekyT 21:25, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
- and also was a teacher at New Mexico State Penitentiary for Eastern New Mexico University. He holds a B.A. from the College of Santa Fe.
- Done I can back this up with [8] this reference, so I'll add it. — raekyT 21:22, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
Proposed Edits Hakeem Jeffries
[edit]Please find below the edits proposed for the Hakeem Jeffries Wiki page. Our main concern is that these pages accurately reflect the person as well as the times. We were mostly concerned with the out-of-date information contain on the assemblyman's page and thus many of our edits reflect that concern. Again, we have bolded proposed edits.
- I will get to this article tomorrow, if no one else takes the lead on it. — raekyT 03:10, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
- I was just checking to see if you got a chance to look at the proposed changes for Hakeem Jeffries page... We would really like to get his information updated as soon as possible! Thanks! Nycapple123 (talk) 16:02, 5 August 2010 (UTC)nycapple123
- Sorry it's taking so long, I'll get to it this afternoon. — raekyT 16:33, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
- We would like to start by thanking you for making the corrections we have suggested and being patient with this editing process. However, we still have some things we would like to correct. In regards to the 421 bill, the cigarette tax bill, and the toy bill, all of these legislative acts are outdated. The assembly session only lasts two years, these bills are from Jeffries' first legislative session (he is now in his third). True, these bills had much significance at the time (2006), but now they are outdated and no longer accurately represent the Assemblyman's accomplishments and contributions. (For example, the cigarette tax is now nullified by a newer and more expansive tax). The whole paragraph about the 421 bill was not written by us (it was part of the original wiki page) and we're fine with removing it. We propose adding sentences about the more relevant project reclaim. The "nanny bills" and the same-sex marriage bills mentioned in the additional topics page seem outdated, as they are also from previous legislative sessions. Please let us know if you need help finding sources or composing information about Project Reclaim or Jeffries' other bills. Thanks again for your help and patience. Nycapple123 (talk) 15:46, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
- As you well know, things an elected official does in the past is relevant today, specifically if they're unpopular. I'm aware that as someone working on his campaign that you'd like some of the more controversial topics to be removed, but we don't whitewash articles for public image. Since the cigarette tax bill was heavily covered by the media, it's something that's important and should stay. As for the other controversial things, gay-marriage, ban on fats, sugar, etc.. Unless I can find sufficient news coverage to backup those currently not passed and probably never will pass bills, they don't have to remain. But any legislation that did pass and was covered by the media is relevant for the article. — raekyT 18:34, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

- Hakeem Jeffries (born 1970) is the Assemblyman in New York's 57th Assembly District. A qualified supporter of Bruce Ratner's controversial Atlantic Yards project, he defeated Bill Batson-a former union organizer and opponent of the planned Forest City Ratner development in downtown Brooklyn-by a margin of 64%-25% in September 2006. [1] This information is outdated and thus irrelevant (its from four years ago). The project itself has been pruned down and doesn’t resemble the hot topic that it was when it was first introduced. We suggest deleting the whole second sentence about the Atlantic Project.
- Unlikely. I'm not comfortable removing this, there are sources, although I'm not sure hes a "qualified supporter" because I haven't found sources on that, but he has been a figure in that. A blog http://atlanticyardsreport.blogspot.com seems to mention him a bit, but not a WP:RS, a video [9] has him discussing it, and another video [10] discussing it, hes introduced bills about it A09012, A11431, maybe more. Theres the "Project Reclaim" that seems controversial (video interview [11]). I'll have to think about it, it seems controversial enough and notable enough he seems to be involved enough in it, that its worth noting on his page. — raekyT 17:00, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
- NYTimes source — raekyT 17:12, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
- Changed it to "cautious" supporter based on this reference. It's definitely possible this whole topic might require far more then just a part of a sentence though. — raekyT 17:47, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

- Jeffries has made two previous attempts at winning this Assembly District-in both races he faced incumbent Assemblyman Roger L. Green-and has also been an active participant in community affairs within the district itself. During his three years (he was elected in 2006) in the legislature, Assemblyman Jeffries has emerged as a champion of working families, the middle class and senior citizens. He has introduced over 70 bills during his service in legislative session http://assembly.state.ny.us/mem/?ad=057&sh=sponsor
- Partly done: I won't add "Assemblyman Jeffries has emerged as a champion of working families" since thats peacock wording, unless you have a RELIABLE THIRD PARTY NEWS SOURCE that exactly states hes a "champion of working families" in the reporters words not his, then I may consider it. — raekyT 17:03, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
- including measures designed to assist residents in foreclosure, protect tenants from landlord harassment, and reduce property taxes on homeowners, and facilitate the successful re-entry of formerly incarcerated individuals. http://ourtimepress.com/2010/03/05/coalition-campaigns-to-end-prison-based-gerrymandering/
Done thats fine, although I'd prefer sources for each of these statements individually... — raekyT 17:36, 5 August 2010 (UTC)- Redflag Strike that actually, the source discusses ending prison-based gerrymandering not facilitating the successful re-entry of prisoners. Will need another source, but I'll add the statement with a {{citation needed}} tag. — raekyT 17:41, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
- How about, instead of "facilitate the successful re-entry of formerly incarcerated individuals" we say and the "reform of prison-based redistricting" — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nycapple123 (talk • contribs)
- Partly done: This I can do, since the source discusses prison-based gerrymandering. If you want to bring up that he's helping the re-entry of released prisoners I'll need sources for that. I still need sources to backup the other claims in that section "measures designed to assist residents in foreclosure, protect tenants from landlord harassment and reduce property taxes on homeowners" else I may need to delete some of those statements. — raekyT 18:37, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

- In response to the toy recall crisis that threatens the safety of our children, he recently introduced a bill that would penalize retailers and wholesalers who knowingly sell to the public hazardous or dangerous toys that have been the subject of a recall. (Proposal to remove this paragraph entirely from the page. It’s outdated and no longer very useful to readers.)
- Discussion ongoing...
I believe this is A00460, does he not want recognition for this bill? Source [12]. I can't seem to find anything else really reliable commenting on it, did it pass? — raekyT 18:17, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
- Discussion ongoing...
- Assemblymember Jeffries also co-sponsored bill A10409, which increased the New York State tax on cigarettes.(Proposal to remove this paragraph entirely from the page. It’s outdated and no longer very useful to readers.)
- Unlikely If this bill is the one that eventually got passed (A10409 is a wrong number I think correct one is A03300), then there is significant news coverage about it (Times Post), will require a little bit more research to find out if this is the bill the news articles are discussing, but it definitely shouldn't be removed. — raekyT 18:01, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
- He co-sponsored a groundbreaking 421-a reform bill that requires developers who receive tax breaks to build affordable housing in the Fort Greene, Clinton Hill, Crown Heights and Bedford Stuyvesant neighborhoods that he represents. At least fifty percent of the affordable housing must go to people who live in the community. Along with his colleagues in the legislature, Assemblyman Jeffries enacted a state budget that provides an additional one billion dollars in funding for public schools. He recently co-sponsored a bill that would make the public display of a noose with the intent to racially intimidate a felony hate crime. Jeffries also wrote and sponsored the hotly contested house bill A. 11177-A (now law) that eliminated the stop and frisk database used by police forces in New York City. http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/07/16/paterson-signs-bill-limiting-street-stop-data/ http://dnainfo.com/20100716/manhattan/gov-david-paterson-signs-law-ending-stopandfrisk-database

This whole paragraph needs sourcing... Ideally with bill numbers and links to them. — raekyT 20:05, 5 August 2010 (UTC)- The information about the stop and frisk bill is very important, it is groundbreaking legislation, and needs to be included on his page. Otherwise, please add this information as soon as possible. thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nycapple123 (talk • contribs)

- Prior to civil service, Assemblyman Jeffries previously served as litigation counsel for a media and entertainment company, and Jeffries has worked in the litigation department of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison and as a clerk for Judge Harold Baer, Jr.. He holds a degree from New York University School of Law as well as a Master's Degree in Public Policy from Georgetown University and a Bachelor's in Political Science from Binghamton University where he graduated with honors for outstanding academic achievement. Additional Topics by Raeky
[edit]- Bill A10574, co-sponsored by Jeffries. "Prohibits the sale or the use of high-fructose corn syrup in any food products.". Seems highly controversial, [13], [14], [15]. Didn't receive as much news as the salt ban (A10129), but there is alot of news about "nanny state" laws. Might be worth mentioning? — raekyT 19:20, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
- Another controversial nanny state food law A08443 he co-sponsored. "Relates to prohibiting the sale or use of artificial trans fats in food service establishments, mobile food service establishments and retail food stores." — raekyT 19:26, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
- "Project Reclaim" I think received quite a bit of news coverage heres a video interview [16]. — raekyT 19:20, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
- Same-Sex Marriage, co-sponsor of A07732. (Multi-Sponsored by Aubry and both voting Yes). I'm sure this is controversial with plenty of references about this bill. — raekyT 19:36, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

The copyright holder, Diane Lau, will need to provide some sorta legal document that she transfers the copyright to someone else, like "I Diane Lau, of (address), hereby transfer all rights of these image(s) to (client's name). The image(s) were created on (date) and are described as (description of images)." and the person she gives the copyright too will have to or she will need to e-mail our OTRS team, permissions-commons@wikimedia.org, stating she releases that specific photograph (providing a link to it on commons) under the specific license listed on commons. Otherwise it's a copyright violation and will need to be deleted. — raekyT 20:08, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
Unblock request: Edgar181
[edit]We have been blocked by user Edgar181 for using Wikipedia for "advertising purposes".
- When I replied to the unblock request above by granting the unblock request, it looks like somehow I failed to actually unblock. This was entirely unintentional. I have now successfully unblocked you. I apologize for the inconvenience. And thank you to Reaky for bringing the problem to my attention. -- Ed (Edgar181) 15:05, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
