Xavier Campuses and Houses

You seem to actually know something about the houses and campuses, so perhaps you can add some (more) clarifications to the Houses section of the article? For example, regarding the senior campus, what happened before 1991? And similarly, for Burke Hall, what happened before 1987, and for Kostka Hall, before 1971?
Also, who are/were Burke & Kostka?
Some of these questions are answered at http://www.xavier.vic.edu.au/AboutXavier/history.htm, but not all.

Regarding the tables

  • Is the data published somewhere accessible via the web?
  • Re: Burke Hall, three houses are listed as Premiers in 2006: Campion, Loyola & Owen.
  • Re: Kostka Hall, no Premier mentioned for 2010.

On other matters: What does the school use Billilla Mansion for, and how long has it been leasing it for?

From my own personal knowledge, since the Buxton campus was closed for renovation after the bushfires, it has been the School's venue for Year 11 & 12 retreats. I believe that Kostka Hall sporadically uses it too, but to what extent I don't know. The lease only began in the last few years -- I'm still scratching around for some documentation. I'd reply over there, but far out has that conversation become convoluted. I note your correction regarding an overall principal and headmasters for each of the campuses. I, now, agree that they're notable. Non-web references are fine, and that'd be great if you could get one.

That being said, I'm beginning to get the impression that the different campuses of Xavier College might warrant their own pages, just to get around the problem of campus specific information on that main page. An example of this is Northern_Beaches_Secondary_College. This might be a good compromise around a lot of the problems that I have with the article and genuinely improves on it in any case. If you like, you could try merging the "Campuses" section into "History" on the main Xavier page, under the three subtopics of Senior Campus/Burke Hall/Kostka Hall.. It's just that the History section jumps around somewhat unclearly between campuses and then there's a redundant "Campuses" section below it.. Nworsn (talk) 11:24, 29 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

For the introduction:

Xavier's students attend the college at three campuses around Melbourne. A Senior Campus for years 9 to 12, at Kew, and two Junior Campuses cater, separately, for both Kindergarten to year 4 and year 5 to 8, Burke Hall at Kew and Kostka Hall at Brighton.

In addition to these three main campuses, Xavier has an outdoor education facility in Buxton, near Marysville, and a rowing shed on the banks of the Yarra River. It also leases the historical mansion Billilla[1] in Halifax Street, Brighton, from the Bayside City Council.[2]

For the history section:

In 2009, the Buxton outdoor education centre was temporarily closed due to extensive damage from the Black Saturday bushfires in Victoria.[3]

That cuts up the whole section into bits elsewhere. There are a couple of things that were said in both history and campuses. That looks good -- you could remove the Campuses section if you added those in. The "Senior Campus" is its name, and is from Year 9 (not Year 10) to Year 12. And Burke and Kostka Halls have a clear split between the EYC and the 5-8 sections of them.. do you think you could mention that? It's a good start in any case. July WMAU Melbourne Meetup

Hi, At last month's June meetup we discussed the idea of setting up a Training Course at a University of the Third Age (U3A) to be held in 2013 and named Becoming a Wikipedia editor. In order to get this course up and running we are calling for volunteers to help develop the idea, and either tutor part of the course, or provide one on one help to students in the class. New Challenge for Oceania and Australia

Hi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Oceania/The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia/The 5000 Challenge are up and running based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. The Australia challenge would feed into the wider region one and potentially New Zealand could have a smaller challenge too. The main goal is content improvement, tackling stale old stubs and important content and improving sourcing/making more consistent but new articles are also welcome if sourced. I understand that this is a big goal for regular editors, especially being summertime where you are, but if you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Oceania and Australia like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1700 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for the region but fuelled by a series of contests to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. The Africa contest scaled worldwide would naturally provide great benefits to Oceania countries, particularly Australia and attract new editors. I would like some support from existing editors here to get the Challenges off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile and potentially bring about hundreds of improvements in a few weeks through a contest!
