Initial thoughts

[edit]

My initial thoughts are that this is too restrictive. Journals are peer-reviewed and are considered to have a high degree of integrity. In that sense, articles that appear in the journal itself about the journal, for example, articles on the history of the journal, are independent of the journal in the sense that they are not advertising. I also think the notability criteria for web-specific content are not suitable for application to online journals. The good point is the one about combining articles about scientific societies and journals when there is not much (yet) to say about either. Carcharoth 11:05, 12 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The awards criterion also misses the point that awards for journals are more commonly for industry newsletter type magazines. There are awards for journals, but in fact it is also common for prestigious journals and scientific societies to be awarding (or announcing) awards, rather than receiving awards. So talk of awards really misses the point here, and is a good example of why adapting one notability guideline to fit another field is not always the best idea.
