Messing around with b-sides

[edit]

This section could be done in a wide variety of ways. This is difficult because some of their b-sides appear on a few different versions of a single, and others appear on entirely different releases. There is also the question of "What defines a b-side?" Is a live version found on a single, that originally can be found as a studio version on an album, to be considered a b-side? Is a b-side just anything not found on an album? What if it is featured on some versions of an album? I started this list because i didn't like the current version with the "a-sides" but after finishing this version, I almost feel that is necessary. I do feel, however, that b-sides should come before a-sides. Fezmar9 (talk) 00:05, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oops. Hadn't noticed you had posted this, and just finished the old way! Oh well! Again, the reason I have set it out as it is at the moment is simply because I lifted the format from the RHCP version! To be honset, I prefer your version above, so I'm gonna change it. I think generally a B-side is considered anything released on a single that isn't the "main song"/title track itself. Though I think the list can be very flexible and include bonus tracks issued on some versions of albums and anything else people feel like adding. Nouse4aname (talk) 10:07, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Haha, I'm sorry you had to go through all the trouble. I was tempted to leave a comment saying I made a complete version, go check it out in the discussion section. I have yet to see a b-sides section that I like, I'm not even sure I like the version that I made. Deftones have their b-sides sorted by "original material" "acoustic versions" "live versions" Deftones_discography#B-sides. That is probably the best one I've seen. Fezmar9 (talk) 15:03, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, it didn't take long anyway! I think I prefer the one that you made to be honest. It's simple and clean, while providing all the necessary info. Nouse4aname (talk) 15:09, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
What about incorporating the "Miscellaneous" songs into the b-sides list? Fezmar9 (talk) 15:22, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Why not...! Nouse4aname (talk) 15:40, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
the bsides need a ton of work, and u removed the 2 aucoustic songs, the miscellaneous was non-album tracks idk why u changed it, they may be on a single but the are still non-alnum tracks —Preceding unsigned comment added by USEDfan (talkcontribs) 16:11, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Here we go again. USEDfan, you are deleting information and pursuing your own biased ideas regardless of what has been discussed, again. If you will take a quick glance at your talk page, you will notice a lot of warning signs and people blocking you. Those were not put there for fun, but rather to show you that you are doing something wrong. If you can learn from your mistakes, maybe you could become a decent editor. The featured lists of music are labeled so because they can serve as examples for other similar articles (The Used's Discography being a similar article). The list format that you love so much is used when there are only small amounts of information, or basically just one piece of information. We have enough information to fill a chart, so the chart format is to be used. Take a look at the featured list, and point out to me one article with "your way." A non-album track is the same thing as a b-side, so that is why we included them in the bsides chart. Fezmar9 (talk) 17:25, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
omg ur retarded, a non-album track isnt the same as a bside, a non-album track may be a remix or demo, while a bside is a song recorded for n album that didnt make it, u 3 are sock puppets obviously, and friends with the guy who gave me all those warnings, u have no idea how to run this page, i owned thi spage for many years then all the sudden u 3 i mean u 1 came and desroyed it, now since u have no balls and cry to an admin everytime i make an edit i have to work with u, ur a baby and cry until u have ur way which is why i was blocked, im trying to help now and u customizing everything ot ur way, im making facts and orginize the page under proper topics, u need to learn this is opened edit and u cant always have ur way. USEDfan (talk) 17:47, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Nobody "owns" the page. See WP:OWN. We work under consensus by discussing things. Featured discographies provide the formatting style to aim for. A B-Side is derived from when vinyl singles had an a and b side, and thus refer to singles, not album outtakes. As this is a sub page of my user page, I insist on proper discussion before editing, as has been occurring thus far. Nouse4aname (talk) 18:02, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
ur being ricdioulous, the way i ahve bside and non albums tracks are better, it mkaes more sense, u dont have ne idea what ur doing, ur boutching the page, im the used biggest fan so i shud get to say how it goes. USEDfan (talk) 18:05, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
ok right now we have about 10 bsides missing and 20 songs listed that arent bsides USEDfan (talk) 18:17, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Add in the missing ones then. The others all fall under the definition below, so they can remain.Nouse4aname (talk) 18:32, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
According to A-side and B-side, a b-side includes: different versions of a-sides, cover songs, a song written and recorded but never released for various reasons, among other classifications. Please stop saying that because you are a "bigger" or "the biggest" Used fan you have the power over everyone else. You cannot have "owned" the page for years for two reasons. One - nobody on wikipedia owns any page. Two - your edits only go back until late March 2008. Unless you are a sockpuppet, this simply cannot be true. Fezmar9 (talk) 18:28, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
In addition to "B-side songs are released on the same record as a single " Nouse4aname (talk) 18:32, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
ok iguess we some how all agree on this now amazigly, lets get their real discovery unlocked and we good. USEDfan (talk) 20:58, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unrelated - just curious

[edit]

So The Used's Maybe Memories went platinum in the US, but an actual studio album did not? Are compilation or live albums treated differently than studio albums? I know that for a studio album in the US to receive a platinum award it must sell 1,000,000 copies, and is significantly lower for EPs (I forget the exact number). Does that follow through with compilation albums and live albums also? Or did Maybe Memories truly sell a million copies before The Used or In Love and Death? Also, Berth was only released a few months before Lies and did not have any charting songs, and yet it reached gold status before Lies. Ever since the whole edit war over the discography started and I thought the platinum award was just vandalism I have been trying to research it, but can't find anything. Fezmar9 (talk) 15:22, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It does seem odd, but the info comes from the RIAA itself, so should be reliable (I hope). It seems is the US albums and singles require the same sales for each certification anyway, so I assume that includes compilations too...Music_recording_sales_certification. Nouse4aname (talk) 15:40, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I FIGURED IT OUT! On riaa.com it lists Maybe Memories and Berth as a "Video Longform" format, whereas The Used or In Love and Death are listed as an "Album" format. I started searching for this instead of "Live albums" or "Compilation albums" which turned up nothing. At the bottom of a list of currently rewarded gold and platinum video longform albums on billboard.com it reads, "The RIAA awards gold certifications for U.S. video shipments of 50,000 units and platinum certifications for shipments of 100,000 units." That was really going to bother me, if I didn't figure it out soon. Fezmar9 (talk) 16:15, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Good research there! Well done! Nouse4aname (talk) 18:32, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
When I find time, I will try to add that to its rightful place on wiki. It definitely should at least be on Recording Industry Association of America. Fezmar9 (talk) 18:36, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
