To get some practice editing you can use a sandbox. You can create your own personal sandbox for use any time. It's perfect for working on bigger projects. Then for easy access in the future, you can put {{My sandbox}}
on your userpage.
Please remember to:
- Always sign your posts on talk pages. You can do this either by clicking on the button on the edit toolbar or by typing four tildes
~~~~
at the end of your post. This will automatically insert your signature, a link to your talk page, and a timestamp. - Leave descriptive edit summaries for your edits. Doing so helps other editors understand what changes you have made and why you made them.
[edit]DS/Alert - India/Pakistan/Afghanistan
[edit]This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.
You have shown interest in India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.
To opt out of receiving messages like this one, place {{Ds/aware}}
on your user talk page and specify in the template the topic areas that you would like to opt out of alerts about. For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.
As mentioned above, this is just an alert. Welcome to editing on India/Pakistan/Afghanistan topics!
Oops. I forget to sign the alert. Chaipau (talk) 13:07, 3 June 2022 (UTC)
- @Chaipau: I am unable to understand why I got this message. Northeast heritage (talk) 13:36, 3 June 2022 (UTC)
- This is an alert not a warning. Since you are editing on topics related to India, you are made aware that the Wikipedia rules are applied with some additional mechanisms. Making you aware is a routine affair, it does not mean you have violated these policies. To understand this system, please look at WP:ACDS. The goal of this is to ensure Wikipedia continues to function properly. Chaipau (talk) 13:56, 3 June 2022 (UTC)
Old image removed from Boro people
[edit]I have removed an old image of Bodo/Kachari person from the gallery in Boro people. This is because these photos are usually mis-represented by colonial officers and they have used these photos to fulfill their agenda. These photos have restricted use in Wikipedia. Chaipau (talk) 18:17, 10 December 2022 (UTC)
- I don't see any mis-representation and agenda. Do you have any proof? Northeast heritage (talk) 18:24, 10 December 2022 (UTC)
- This is the general consensus on using Raj sources: Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Noticeboard/Archive_172#Are_British_Raj_ethnographers_unreliable.3F. The same thing applies to pictures. Chaipau (talk) 22:21, 10 December 2022 (UTC)
- It's okay but some pictures are non-controversial and reported in recent scholarship and these are well acceptable in wikipedia. Northeast heritage (talk) 05:11, 11 December 2022 (UTC)
Rajbanshi
[edit]Please do not push such opinions on ethnicity, especially that tries to establish primordiality. They were first put forward by colonial writers. The understandings of ethnicity in the Northeast has changed much. Chaipau (talk) 16:36, 16 December 2022 (UTC)
- Please read it again. It's not about primordiality. It's only about beginning of scholarship since early 19th century. Northeast heritage (talk) 19:17, 16 December 2022 (UTC)
[edit]This is with regards to your comment here Please consider investing your time reading up on a subject and familiarizing yourself with Wikipedia rules, policies, consensus and conventions---if you do not you are wasting other people's time who have to pick up after you. The failure to take the community efforts in these areas may be considered WP:DE. Chaipau (talk) 13:10, 18 December 2022 (UTC)
- Your edits are also problematic in many cases and Rajbanshi article is problematic. Northeast heritage (talk) 10:41, 19 December 2022 (UTC)
May 2024
[edit]Please do not remove content or templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did at Rajbanshi people, without giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your content removal does not appear to be constructive and has been reverted. If you only meant to make a test edit, please use your sandbox for that. Thank you. Ekdalian (talk) 07:01, 12 May 2024 (UTC)
- Please read why that citation was removed. That citation is inconsistent with the article. Northeast heritage (talk) 07:19, 12 May 2024 (UTC)
- Your reasoning/opinion is not enough; I have obviously read it properly! Please initiate a discussion on the article talk page and achieve consensus regarding the same, as per convention. Ekdalian (talk) 07:47, 12 May 2024 (UTC)
