Editing of Alcatel One Touch page
Hello. I'm going to be making some edits to the Alcatel One Touch page. Just wanted to give you a heads up, as I know you’ve worked on it previously. Please review my updates when you get the chance.
Thanks, — Fotdt (talk) 6:09, 1 December 2014 (UTC)
- Hi User:Fotdt: I have merged content from Alcatel One Touch to the Alcatel Mobile Phones article, per the merge result at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Alcatel One Touch on 5 July 2014 (UTC). NorthAmerica1000 12:18, 1 December 2014 (UTC)

- Fixed. Hi OccultZone: Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I formatted the nomination page and transcluded it to the AfD log page at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Log/2014 December 1. NorthAmerica1000 11:52, 1 December 2014 (UTC)

User:S.Chidipothu as per WP:UP#PROMO is it right to have facebook links and personal bio? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vin09 (talk • contribs) 08:31, 2 December 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Vin09: Having a facebook link on a user page appears to be all right. For example, Template:Infobox user, used by Wikipedians on user pages, has a field for this data. However, the user page itself has an excessive amount of personal information unrelated to Wikipedia, as per WP:UPNOT and WP:USERBIO, and could also be interpreted as excessively self-promotional per WP:UP#PROMO.
- Also, the page reads like a resume, against the grain of WP:NOTRESUME. Since you're concerned about this, I recommend that you contact user to discuss the matter. Perhaps they will modify the page per your concerns.
- One final matter, please be sure to sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~). Thanks, NorthAmerica1000 09:01, 2 December 2014 (UTC)
- OK, fine. I was not too concerned, just I wanted to know about these points. I forgot the signing, sorry for that. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vin09 (talk • contribs) 09:06, 2 December 2014 (UTC)

Strange IP entering series of deletion debates
I know that this is weird, but I weighed in on a series of AFDs about small city mayors being proposed or argued by Bearcat. In one I noticed an IP making an argument, and it was odd because IPs usually make naive arguments, not arguments fomr policy. I clicked, and found this IP [1] which appears to edit only to opine on AFDs. I am troubled by this, see 2, 3, 4, and 5, 6. Small-city mayors. You will see on some of the pages, that I also became indignant because Bearcat began ot assert rules of thumb as policy (5 sources of a particular type required to pass AFD; city must have pop. of 50,000 for mayor to be automatically notable) And I accepted his word that the 50,000 number was a policy or WP standard for notability of politicians, (like being elected to a national legislature) . another user called him on it, and I entered that discussion. As I said, I was ticked. Then I stumbled into this truly strange use of an IP address and am writing to you because you relisted one of these AFD discussions. I have not looked at all of the AFDs entered into by this IP. Only the mayoral ones where I began to see a pattern.ShulMaven (talk) 01:26, 3 December 2014 (UTC)
- Hi ShulMaven: The IP has a relatively lengthy period of contributing almost exclusively to AfD discussions (see [7]). There's no policy prohibiting IPs from contributing to AfD discussions that I'm aware of. NorthAmerica1000 01:36, 3 December 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, but having a sockpuppet to vote "delete" on pages you nominate for deletion or vote to delete would be, if that is what this is. I continued to click on the IP's contributions. The November 2014 votes of this IP are so very regularly voting to delete in the same discussions where Bearcat votes to delete, or nominates for deletion, sometimes as the only other delete vote, or one of only 1 or 2 comments before a topic is closed as delete. Truly minor, presumably non-notable figures. [8], [9], [10], [11], [12], [13] The frequency of the IP voting with Bearcat in so many very brief, unnotable, uncontroversial November 2014 AfDs seems too odd for coincidence. In older discussions where the IP weighs in, Bearcat (always? often? I'm not sure) does not appear.ShulMaven (talk) 01:49, 3 December 2014 (UTC)
- ShulMaven: As per WP:ASPERSIONS, "...If accusations must be made, they should be raised, with evidence, on the user-talk page of the editor they concern or in the appropriate forums". I recommend that you discuss this matter with User:Bearcat on their user talk page. WP:SPI is another option. NorthAmerica1000 01:57, 3 December 2014 (UTC)

Hi, you closed the deletion discussion of Anthony Campanelli ('novice' figure skater). There is a new article for Kellen Johnson who is an 'intermediate' figure skater (level lower than 'novice'). I've never dealt with article deletions, but I figured this article would fall in same category as Campanelli's. Cheers, Kirin13 (talk) 02:17, 4 December 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Kirin13: As a newly-created article created by a new user, it may be best to allow some time for the article creator to expand the article (which they have been doing per its Revision history), rather than nominating it for deletion right away. Also, it is possible that the subject may be notable. See also Please do not bite the newcomers. NorthAmerica1000 02:25, 4 December 2014 (UTC)
- Should I also not bite the 2nd brand new user (created less than two hours later, who also only edits regarding same child, and who's username happens to be U.S. Figure Skating's website name)? Honestly, I don't care. As I said above, I don't deal with article deletion. The only reason I brought it up was because I saw you delete a similar article of a more notable skater a few days ago. Cheers, Kirin13 (talk) 04:41, 4 December 2014 (UTC)
- Kirin13: I noticed that you have helped out to improve the article. If you're concerned about possible socking (per the above) see the procedures at WP:SPI about filing an investigation. For concerns about usernames, for starters, check out WP:BADNAME. Usernames for administrator attention is another avenue if you feel that the username is problematic or inappropriate. Page Deletion
Hi, I just realized that the page " AABSyS Information Technology" has been deleted. I am new to the workings of Wikipedia and i wished to create a page about AABSyS Information Technology as it is one of the most prominent GIS/IT companies in India. The text that was presented to have copyright issues with the LinkedIn page has also been created by me and hence there are overlaps in the phrases. This page is not intended for a advertising/ marketing proposes but more as a page that talks about the journey of from being a start up to a company that gives direct/indirect employment to more than 500 people. I would request you to kindly reconsider the deletion and point out the exact changes that need to be made in order to following Wikipedia's rule and regulations. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rbvnzb (talk • contribs) 07:42, 4 December 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Rbvnzb: The article lacked, and the topic itself appears to lack, independent, third-party reliable sources about it to qualify its notability for a Wikipedia article, specifically per the requirements of WP:GNG and WP:CORPDEPTH, the latter of which is part of the Notability (organizations and companies) guideline page. Essentially, topic notability on Wikipedia needs to be demonstrated with multiple independent reliable sources that provide significant coverage about the topic.
- Consensus at the deletion discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/AABSyS Information Technology was that the topic does not qualify for a Wikipedia article per a lack of these types of sources. The nominator stated that a Google search for such sources did not yield any usable results, and another participant at the discussion stated that multiple searches likewise did not provide anything usable for Wikipedia's purposes. Also note that press releases do not qualify notability for Wikipedia topics.
- However, if you're able to find multiple reliable sources that provide significant coverage of the company, it would qualify for an article. Please don't be disappointed that the article was deleted (I have also had articles that I worked on be deleted), and thank you for contributing to Wikipedia. NorthAmerica1000 09:21, 4 December 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for the prompt reply. These posts regarding the lack of sources were made initially when i had only cited one reference. However, the article that was deleted had at least 4-5 non-PR related references. I will try and find more reference to be support the article. Can you let me know of the way forward once i find these said references? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rbvnzb (talk • contribs) 10:51, 4 December 2014 (UTC)
- Rbvnzb: Some people in the discussion stated that the depth of coverage about the topic in available reliable sources (via searches) was not significant (specifically, the nominator and the first participant). Others also signified this in their !votes. I reviewed the sources in the article prior to closing the discussion and deleting the article, and I agree with the source assessments provided in the discussion.
- Furthermore, I have spent some time performing source searches of my own, but thus far I'm not finding significant coverage about the company. Feel free to provide sources here that qualify the topic's notability. For more information about finding reliable sources, check out Identifying reliable sources and Help:Find sources. Another option is to contest the closure at WP:DRV.
- Also, please be sure to sign your posts on talk and discussion pages with four tildes (~~~~). Thanks, NorthAmerica1000 11:17, 4 December 2014 (UTC)

North, that Santarem cheese - could be a goat's cheese. My info was mainly the French Wiki, and at the French article is stated sheep's cheese. However ours say goat. ... ? Hafspajen (talk) 15:11, 10 December 2014 (UTC)

Kellen Johnson
It's been a week and nothing been added since the first day. The majority of text is unsourced. The competition results are nothing notable. Unsurprisingly fails WP:NSKATE. What would the appropriate action be? Thanks, Kirin13 (talk) 01:15, 11 December 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Kirin13: If you feel that the subject (Kellen Johnson) does not meet notability requirements for an article, you can propose the article for deletion or initiate an AfD discussion to obtain community input. NorthAmerica1000 02:30, 11 December 2014 (UTC)
Page
Hi. Can you recover latest version of this page in my own userspace? Thanks. --XXN (talk) 01:53, 11 December 2014 (UTC)
- Hi XXN: The routine course of action is to contact the administrator that closed the AfD discussion to request userfication (which was User:FreeRangeFrog). Per the significant consensus for deletion of the article at the AfD discussion, I decline to userfy this article. NorthAmerica1000 02:40, 11 December 2014 (UTC)

Wikipedia:WikiProject User scripts/Scripts/CloseAFD
You are invited to join the discussion at Wikipedia:WikiProject User scripts/Scripts/CloseAFD. I am inviting you to try the improved script! It makes relisting and closing debates much easier and now works in Vector. Support has been added to deal with some incompatibility it had with other gadgets (like wikEd). It also makes use of the new relist count parameter in Relist to make that process easier. Please do check out the description page and give it a try! Languishing AfD
Hi NA1K. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Sennacherib's campaign in Judah was created by user Pluto2012 on 22 June 2014. He correctly tagged the article and entered it in the AFD log, but three minutes later removed it from the AFD log. As far as I can see, he didn't notify anyone or take any other action. This AFD page is now sitting there doing very little. It has never been categorized, relisted, or closed. An editor has done something about the reason for deletion, and I think the article should be kept (I'll comment on the AFD is you like). I don't know quite enough about AFD admin to do anything directly about this. Might you deal with it please? Cheers, --Stfg (talk) 10:41, 14 December 2014 (UTC)
- Hello,
- I apologize for the bad process and the annoys.
- I didn't know what to do and didn't understand the process of the AfD.
- Regarding the topic: this article is sourced with the Bible (and only with this: [37]). It doens't have any secondary source. It is a pure WP:OR and should be deleted. Could someone launch the process ?

- Working on it now. NorthAmerica1000 10:52, 14 December 2014 (UTC)

AfD participation
Hi. I remember some time back that you were concerned about AfD particpation, as was Milowent. I've recently noticed an increasing tendency for AfDs to be closed as "No consensus" due to very little participation. (eg: [38], [39], [40]) I'm wondering what we can do to get people more involved in this important area - it's not like we need a "backlog drive" or people turning up just to !vote, but perhaps some encouragement is needed? Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 14:25, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Ritchie333: For starters, an article in the The Signpost about the overall matter could potentially pique user interest in contributing to AfD discussions. Some topics in such an article could include encouraging involvement in WikiProjects, many of which have article alerts, and to encourage using and referring to deletion sorting pages lists, for people with specific topical interests. NorthAmerica1000 14:32, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
- Do people still read the Signpost? I don't think I do unless I randomly pop onto Wikipediocracy and see somebody has put up a juicy blog post about something there. And projects seem to be dead in the water at the moment bar the odd exception like Military History. Let me have a think and see what else I can come up with. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 14:47, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
- A Signpost op-ed is still a good place to get a platform for these kinds of topics. A wikiproject encouraging participation in AfD processes could also be a good idea if there is interest, though the traditional inclusionist v. deletionist camps make it harder to have a united front. In April 2009 the AfD discussion period was extended from five days to seven days. And since then relisting has become more and more common in my opinion, though I haven't seen any hard evidence confirmation of that. It has been a problem going back to 2010's relisting straw poll.--Milowent • hasspoken 15:56, 16 December 2014 (UTC)

Hoax
Would you mind moving Pikes on Cliffs to Wikipedia:List of hoaxes on Wikipedia/Pikes on Cliffs so it can be linked on Wikipedia:List of hoaxes on Wikipedia? It is now listed as the longest-surviving hoax on the project, so its likely to be of interest. Cheers.--Milowent • hasspoken 15:17, 18 December 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Milowent: I'd have to research the matter to determine if the supposed house the deleted article is about is actually a hoax or not, to a high degree of certainty. The proposal for deletion stated "no sources given, none found but mirrors. Probable hoax, anyway fails WP:V." Since it said "probable" hoax, there's an element of uncertainty there, and I wouldn't want to publish something on the hoax page that may not actually be one. I'd be all right with userfying the article to your userspace if you're interested in researching the matter to determine if it's actually a hoax. NorthAmerica1000 23:25, 18 December 2014 (UTC)
- Userifying would be great, I'm happy to verify its status first. I've investigated quite a few of these and can make the determination. Thanks.Milowent • hasspoken 00:25, 19 December 2014 (UTC)

Recent softdelete of Tyson Sullivan
Hi North America hope your holiday season is going well. Recently an article that I had created had been put into AfD after not much traffic it was softdelete by yourself. I think that in the time between when it was AfD'd and then deleted it has become much stronger. More articles had been linked and legitimacy shown. Just wanted to follow up and request that it be reinstated as a valid article. Hope this is the right place for this discussion. Thanks so much for your editing and work on the site.Popcornfury (talk) 19:37, 18 December 2014 (UTC)
- Hi User:Popcornfury: Done. Per WP:SOFTDELETE, "If a deletion discussion sees very little discussion even after being relisted several times, the administrator can close the discussion as soft delete and delete the page. However, in this case, the article can be restored for any reason on request." Despite this, I strongly recommend that you improve the sourcing in the article with independent, reliable sources that provide significant coverage so that the subject's notability is made apparent (e.g. per WP:BASIC, WP:NACTOR), or it may very well be proposed for deletion or taken to AfD again. Articles for deletion
So, a clear consensus of "delete" is required to delete an article, but no clear consensus of "keep" is required to keep it. What's the alternative? Only an article with a clear consensus to keep shall be kept? Perish the thought. Just thinking out loud. – JBarta (talk) 23:57, 19 December 2014 (UTC)
- No consensus closures default to article retention; however the no consensus result is denoted atop the article's talk page. NorthAmerica1000 00:01, 20 December 2014 (UTC)

Would have closed this as "merge" since the nom suggests this too czar ⨹ 21:24, 20 December 2014 (UTC)
- I had thought about that, and a minor allusion for merging is in the nomination, but the nominator seems to want deletion, and doesn't mention the word "merge" in the nomination. If they had wanted a merge, they could have started a discussion on a talk page or boldly performed one without taking the article to AfD. Along with this, there were only two total participants in the discussion, which is not a very solid foundation for a consensus to be formed. Plus, I included in the close, "Note that this close does not preclude a potential merge of the article." NorthAmerica1000 01:41, 21 December 2014 (UTC)
- I get it, but the merge close would have been more expedient and a better reflection of consensus. Anyway, your call. And if you'd prefer, you can revert and I'll do it czar ⨹ 03:53, 21 December 2014 (UTC)
- Since the nom alluded to two different merge targets, (but again, didn't state to merge directly as an option), closing as merge and choosing one of the targets has the potential to be interpreted as somewhat of a WP:SUPERVOTE, despite the fact that the merge !voter stated a single merge target. I have contacted the nominator on their talk page about the matter (here), and I'm awaiting their response. NorthAmerica1000 05:51, 21 December 2014 (UTC)
