Talk message
I just came back from a 2 month break and noticed your messages. I gave up adminship here a year ago. If you have an article that I deleted that needs to be restored, I have no objection at all. I hope it already got done. Take care. INeverCry 04:50, 9 June 2014 (UTC)
- Hi User:INeverCry: It has been handled, see: Draft:DPT Laboratories. I'll publish it back in main namespace after working on it more. NorthAmerica1000 11:17, 9 June 2014 (UTC)
I think you have an interest in drinks articles. This one is up for deletion. Any views or ideas where to find better sources? Philafrenzy (talk) 00:00, 10 June 2014 (UTC)
- Hi User:Philafrenzy: I'm not finding much in online source searches, which is not surprising considering that this is a defunct brand that was first produced in 1640. The topic may be covered in print sources, though. NorthAmerica1000 00:14, 10 June 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks, I suspect there are plenty of offline sources, possibly German, but not any that I can actually access. I hope the article will be kept as we need more on this sort of topic. Philafrenzy (talk) 00:24, 10 June 2014 (UTC)

Hello. I noticed you just closed the AfD as "no consensus", saying that there was no consensus for a merge, but I beg to differ, because IMHO one "delete or merge", one "merge or redirect" and one "keep or merge" is a clear consensus in favor of merge. Thomas.W talk 10:49, 16 June 2014 (UTC)
- While consensus in the discussion is leaning toward a merge, I don't view it as quite strong enough to close the discussion as such. I feel a merge closure would be imbalanced per the weight of the "Keep" and "Keep or Merge" rationales provided in the discussion. A merge discussion can always continue on an article talk page. A bold merge could also occur, since consensus in the discussion is leaning toward such. If said merge is performed and then reverted, discussion can occur on a talk page regarding the matter. Please feel free to respond here regarding this matter. NorthAmerica1000 10:57, 16 June 2014 (UTC)
- I've updated the close, and added "...although consensus is leaning toward a merge." NorthAmerica1000 10:58, 16 June 2014 (UTC)
Technically, if an AfD is up for over a week and supported by two users (including the nom) and opposed by no one, isn't the standard coa to delete?
If I thought my proposal would be as utterly uncontroversial as it has been (virtually every user who has ever edited the pages has been inactive for years) I would have just PRODed.
126.0.96.220 (talk) 11:16, 16 June 2014 (UTC)
- Hi: I feel that relisting is appropriate in this matter per WP:RELIST, where it states, "However, if at the end of the initial seven-day period, the discussion has only a few participants (including the nominator), and/or it seems to be lacking arguments based on policy, it may be appropriate for the closer to relist it, to solicit further discussion to determine consensus." With only the nomination and one !vote, relisting is appropriate, per the intent to obtain a clearer consensus. NorthAmerica1000 11:20, 16 June 2014 (UTC)
speedy keep
WP:SK doesn't apply to TfDs as it declares itself an AfD guideline. Therefor, a withdrawn nomination where the nominator didn't propose deletion in the first place, with multiple snow and speedy keeps where the nomination was an obviously frivolous or vexatious nomination and the only three delete votes (one of which was a weak delete) were on the basis of I just don't like it, and of which was closed within two days of being open and was in the wrong forum for what the nominator wanted to do (it was an edit request)... I do believe this defines a speedy keep. — {{U|Technical 13}} (e • t • c) 00:28, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
- Hi User:Technical 13: Regarding the closure, in the lead of Wikipedia:Speedy keep it states "Speedy keep is the process of closing debates at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion and related pages with a result of "speedy keep..." (Bold emphasis mine regarding related pages). While it's named "Templates for discussion", TfD is quite similar in process to AfD, and templates are routinely deleted there. Furthermore, per WP:SK#1, a speedy keep is not qualified because delete !votes exist in the discussion. I feel that that would be inaccurate to list the discussion in the template atop at Template talk:Orphan as speedy keep, because 1) it was not closed as such, and 2) per the above regarding related pages. NorthAmerica1000 00:36, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) It's really not worth debating, I just feel that an edit request at TfD with no valid delete !votes (I don't consider I just don't like it votes valid per the two essays Wikipedia:I just don't like it#Deletion discussions and WP:ITANNOYSME), that was closed in two days as it was the wrong forum for an edit request should be a speedy keep. Really not that important in the grand scheme of things though, and I wish you a good day. — {{U|Technical 13}} (e • t • c) 01:01, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for responding. The notion of "no valid delete !votes" is subjective, though. For example, there's some validity in the delete !vote where the user states, "The template is being used incorrectly on many occasions while in some other it is being used as a bad badge". This appears to be a valid concern in support of the notion to delete the template. Ultimately, I'd still prefer to omit "speedy" from the close, per WP:SK#1. NorthAmerica1000 02:10, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
- "The template is being used incorrectly on many occasions while in some other it is being used as a bad badge" simply reads to me as "There is a problem where users don't know how to properly apply the template (which is a user issue, documentation at closest, has nothing to do with the template) and it annoys me that it is just being used as a bad badge (which it very clearly is documented it isn't). That completely neutralizes that complaint, and renders it invalid in my opinion. But, alas, we all have our own opinions. :) — {{U|Technical 13}} (e • t • c) 02:19, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
- While I agree that the above-stated rationale isn't strong relative to deletion of the template, it's the user's opinion and they're entitled to it. There's no stipulation in WP:SK that potentially invalid !votes among users (other than those by the nominator) allows for a speedy keep result. I know that this may seem picky, but If I were to close this as speedy it's likely I would receive complaints, due to the wording of WP:SK. At any rate, thanks for providing your viewpoints. NorthAmerica1000 02:27, 17 June 2014 (UTC)

List of restaurants in London
I have nominated the above page for deletion. How can it possibly work? Martin Hogbin (talk) 17:48, 20 June 2014 (UTC)
- Why did you tag the page for AfD ? , the article is already well written and well sourced. I have removed AfD tag, please avoid tagging articles if don't lie under deletion criteria. I would suggest you to read this before starting AfD to any article. Thank you. A.Minkowiski _Lets t@lk 17:58, 20 June 2014 (UTC)
- I have read that.
- @User:Martin Hogbin. The list was culminated from Category:Restaurants in London, and qualifies for an article per WP:NOTDUP. NorthAmerica1000 18:00, 20 June 2014 (UTC)
- WP:NOTDUP does not forbid this page, neither does it promote or require it. Let us see what others have to say. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Martin Hogbin (talk • contribs) 18:07, 20 June 2014 (UTC)
What is the purpose of this page?
It is obviously impossible to list all the restaurants in London so how do we decide who gets a listing here? IT is obviously of great commercial value to get a listing here and there will be nothing but fights over entries. I note that there is no List of restaurants in New York or List of restaurants in Paris. Martin Hogbin (talk) 18:07, 20 June 2014 (UTC)
- Since you initiated the AfD discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of restaurants in London, it's more functional to convey your concerns there at this time. However, feel free to keep in touch here too. NorthAmerica1000 18:11, 20 June 2014 (UTC)
- @Northamerica1000: I don't think it would go to deletion in anyway. A.Minkowiski _Lets t@lk 18:17, 20 June 2014 (UTC)
N.b.
N.b. - The result of the AfD discussion for List of restaurants in London was: "keep. WP:SNOW. As noted by all commenters, the list satisfies guidelines. It is standard practice to limit such lists to only entries that have or merit articles, and whatever susceptibility the list might have to promotional edits is not cause for deletion." NorthAmerica1000 03:35, 23 June 2014 (UTC)
Hello, my old friend. :) So, obviously we have to cook these at home to see. America's Test Kitchen says just toss dried, uncooked fries into cold oil and bring upto heat and don't stop till they're done. Second, "purveyance", I had to look up. Maybe popularity. Third, the article's talk post needs your input. Fourth, there is no fourth.....I'll make one....oh yeah, I'm growing fresh turmeric. Lots of leaves. Don't know if the roots are bigger. Will dig and make Thai curry soon if enough Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 13:06, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
Ah, here's a good fourth: Considering your List of twice-baked foods and the thrice damaged bacon thing and these fries and who knows what else, might there be an article or list somewhere to be made? Maybe a new title for List of twice-baked foods like List of mutiply-baked or otherwise cooked or fussed-over dishes, beverages, or snaky things? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 13:13, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Anna: I'll respond more later; getting ready to sign out soon. I've added List of twice-baked foods to the See also section of the article; it's a related topic. Thanks for the ideas and input. NorthAmerica1000 13:17, 17 June 2014 (UTC)

However, due to my humbleness, I removed my name from the DYK template crediting creation, as the edits I have performed to the article thus far are nothing near those that you have performed. You have upset me with performing a non-admin closure here. "No consensus" closures should only be performed when there is substantive debate. Clearly, that wasn't the case here. Questions have been left unanswered and some opinions were unclear. This discussion should have clearly been re-listed. I would do it myself, but I usually hate reverting others' edits. I would be grateful if you could revert your closure and relist it yourself. Thank you, Feedback ☎ 23:17, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
- Hi User:Feedback: With six participants, (including the nomination), the discussion was adequate to be closed as no consensus per the various arguments therein, but not resoundingly so. However, more discussion there may indeed prove to be fruitful. Per your request and in hopes to attain a clearer consensus, I have undone the close and relisted the discussion in the present AfD log at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Log/2014 June 30. NorthAmerica1000 08:34, 30 June 2014 (UTC)

Tech News updates
- We are looking for contributors to help write a new issue every week. If you would like to help, please contact us.
Recent software changes
- The latest version of MediaWiki (1.24wmf12) was added to test wikis and MediaWiki.org on July 3. It will be added to non-Wikipedia wikis on July 8, and to all Wikipedias on July 10 (calendar).
- CirrusSearch was enabled on July 1 as the primary search method on 36 new wikis, including the Norwegian (no), Portuguese (pt) and Ukrainian (uk) Wikipedias. [1]
- It is now possible to create Atom or RSS feeds for Word of the Day, Word of the Week and similar entries on Wiktionary wikis. [2] [3]
- You can now use a graphical interface to edit TemplateData information on the English (en), French (fr) and Italian (it) Wikipedias. [4] [5]
VisualEditor news
- Saving an edit with VisualEditor will now be much faster. [6] [7]
- You can now add a caption when you add a file to a page with VisualEditor. You can also change the file to a different one and keep the existing caption. [8] [9] [10]
- When you switch to the Edit source tab, you are now asked to keep your changes. You no longer need to find the option in the menus. [11] [12] [13]
- The reference tool that adds empty
<ref></ref>
tags is now at the bottom of the Cite menu, below references that use templates like{{Cite web}}
. [14] - Context menus will no longer be shown over items that you can edit directly, for example formulæ. [15] [16] [17]
Future software changes
- Starting on July 9, it will be possible to globally rename global (SUL) users. The feature was first scheduled for July 1, but was delayed due to bugs.
- A plan to enable CirrusSearch as the primary search method on the 11 largest Wikimedia wikis has now been prepared. [18]
- If you use references on a page, you will soon always see them at the bottom of the page, even if you forget to add the
<references />
tag (or a template). [19] [20] - Black-and-white XCF images will soon display correctly. [21] [22]
- Description pages of SVG files will soon always show download links for multiple resolutions (example). The links were previously shown only for SVG files in large original resolutions. [23] [24]
Problems
- Between July 2-3, there were problems with loading pages on multiple wikis due to a configuration issue. [25] [26]
- For a few hours on July 1, there were problems with uploading new files on Wikimedia Commons due to a configuration error. [27] [28]

Pelican State Beach
I've reverted your non-admin close because just because I don't literally say "not-notable" in my deletion reason isn't a valid reason to speedy close something tha wasn't open for more than 24 hours.—Ryūlóng (琉竜) 08:24, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- Hi User:Ryulong: My close was accurate per the deletion rationale you initially provided (diff). Since you revised the nomination (diff), we'll see how it goes from there. NorthAmerica1000 08:40, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- So simply because I did not explicitly state that I thought that the subject was not notable that gives you the right to snow close the discussion? That's bullshit. Why else would someone take an article to AFD?—Ryūlóng (琉竜) 15:09, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- Anyone could have closed the discussion as you initially worded it, per WP:SK#1, because it didn't have a valid deletion rationale. I closed the discussion as speedy keep, not as a snow close as you state above. For a list of valid deletion rationales other than topic notability, see WP:DEL-REASON. NorthAmerica1000 01:13, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
- N.b. Another user closed the discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Pelican State Beach as keep. NorthAmerica1000 18:15, 11 July 2014 (UTC)

June 2014 AFC backlog drive awards.
Greetings, Northamerica1000! I'm inquiring if the awards for the drive have been handed out yet. Knowing how this part of the process normally goes for me, where AFC's drives are concerned, and knowing that you're often one of the awards distributors, I thought I'd just leave you with this. Let me know if there's any problems! :) Spring in Wikipedia is lovely! Just avoid the articles on flowers... (talk) 00:49, 11 July 2014 (UTC)
- Hi User:Wilhelmina Will: There's still discussion occurring at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Articles for creation/June 2014 Backlog Elimination Drive regarding the pending awards (see the "Re-reviews" and "Have we reached consensus on the various 'things'?" sections). I haven't participated there, so for this round I'll leave it to another user to perform the awarding. In the past, User:Excirial has performed the awarding, so perhaps they'll do so this time around. NorthAmerica1000 17:50, 11 July 2014 (UTC)

WikiProject Poultry
- Hi User:JTdale: Thanks for the invitation; I have joined the project. NorthAmerica1000 11:45, 15 July 2014 (UTC)
I note that you have edited both of these list articles. Do you see any value in keeping both? The Asian cuisine list article is in a poor state with little information other than unsourced opinion, and is cluttered with too many images, and red links. My feeling is that there is little content to be saved in Asian cuisine, and that it might be more useful to redirect the title to List of Asian cuisines. SilkTork ✔Tea time 18:35, 15 July 2014 (UTC)
- Hi User:SilkTork: List of Asian cuisines is an offshoot of List of cuisines article, because the latter article would be too long with all of the list articles within it. My preference is to leave the list article as a list and expand the Asian cuisine article. NorthAmerica1000 22:41, 15 July 2014 (UTC)
