Speedy deletion nomination of User:NordstarCapital
[edit]A tag has been placed on your user page, User:NordstarCapital, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be advertising which only promotes or publicises someone or something. Promotional editing of any kind is not permitted, whether it be promotion of a person, company, product, group, service, belief, or anything else. This is a violation of our policies regarding acceptable use of user pages — user pages are intended for active editors of Wikipedia to communicate with one another as part of the process of creating encyclopedic content, and should not be mistaken for free webhosting resources or advertising space. Please read the guidelines on spam, the guidelines on user pages, and, especially, our FAQ for Organizations.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Drm310 🍁 (talk) 06:18, 29 March 2021 (UTC)

[edit]You may request a change of name and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions other than promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}}
at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:
- Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
- Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
- Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
{{unblock|Your reason here}}
at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Cabayi (talk) 06:21, 29 March 2021 (UTC)Page Blocked in Error - Please Release
[edit]Hello - our new page was blocked (..and I think, deleted) back on March 29th. We believe it was deleted/blocked in error. The reason given was that it is assumed that we are promoting and/or facilitating via the wikipedia page. This is not the case. We do not advertise to, accept and/or invest on behalf of clients.
We are the new owners of the historic (129 year old) Toronto Star newspaper. Our page simply about "who we are", and believe that we are adding to the general knowledge of wikipedia user in that regard. In addition, Nordstar Capital is owned by two of Canada's most prominent businessmen, Paul Rivett and Jordan Bitove (of the Bitove family that brought the Toronto Raptors to Canada).
Furthermore, we notice the existence of countless other institutional (and even some retail... meaning that they invest on behalf of average citizens) investment companies (and law and accounting firms) in the wikipedia environment that explicitly market and display their current and past investment holding on their pages. Certainly if Nordstar Capital (owner of the Toronto Star) is to be denied, these should be also:
Sprucegrove Investment Management Apollo Global Asset Management Brookfield Asset Management Fidelity Investments Franklin Templeton Investments
Norton Rose Fulbright Bennett Jones KPMG Ernst & Young
- Please unblock and assist us in reinstating our pages. Thank you for your consideration. — Preceding unsigned comment added by NordstarCapital (talk • contribs)
- Your account was justifiably blocked, because your account name violates Wikipedia's username policy, which prohibits names that represent a company. Only individuals can be represented by an account (e.g. "John at Nordstar Captial") or some alias that indicates that you are an individual. Also, accounts cannot be shared with any other person. You will not be allowed to edit with your current account name. You will need to submit an unblock request, using the aforementioned instructions, with a proposed new username.
- The page that was deleted was not an encyclopedia article. The pages that take the form of "User:[account name]" are called userpages. They are special pages for a small amount of biographical info about you, the individual editor who operates this account. They are not encyclopedia articles, nor personal or corporate webpages; the userpage guidelines detail what types of content are acceptable.
- In a more general sense, just because a company exists does not automatically entitle it to have a Wikipedia article. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia - a general reference guide about topics that are considered notable. Topics are notable if they have received sufficiently significant attention by the world at large and over a period of time. We use evidence from sources that are both reliable and independent of the topic to gauge this attention.
- In the case of companies and organizations, a company must meet these notability criteria. You must provide sufficient proof of notability for an article to be accepted. Lack of sufficient in-depth coverage from reliable third-party sources means that a company isn't notable enough for inclusion. Arguing against the deletion of an article because another, similar article exists is often a double-edged sword, because the other articles might be equally unsuitable and deserving of deletion.
- Writing about your own company is a conflict of interest (COI). We have little interest in what a company or its representatives want to say about it; we care about what third parties with no vested interest have chosen on their own to publish about it. COI editing isn't prohibited outright, but it is very difficult for someone from the company to be an objective judge of its notability, write from the required neutral point of view, and only use information taken from unaffiliated sources. Even a well-intentioned writer with a COI has unconscious biases, and can write in a way that is still considered promotional.
- If you are employed by this company directly or are a third party paid to represent their interests, it is required that you disclose this information per Wikipedia's mandatory, non-negotiable policy on paid editing. Please review this policy as well as the simplified conflict of interest guide, then make the appropriate disclosures. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 20:23, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
I would like to establish a page for NordStar Capital as the owners of Canada's largest and most widely read newspaper, the Toronto Star. The Toronto Star is 130 years old and a critical element of our country. I believe that is significant and note-worthy in and of itself. NordStar does not solicit to the public or manage client money and a Wiki page would not be used to drive revenue or profit. This is meaningful contrast the business of countless companies that currently have the privilege of having a page on Wikipedia, as I have already highlighted.
If I need change the user name and/or page type, I am happy to do so. Thanks, — Preceding unsigned comment added by NordstarCapital (talk • contribs)
- You need to use the
{{Unblock-spamun}}
template as described in the block notice above, otherwise an administrator will never be notified of your request.
- Assuming your unblock request is granted, you must make the appropriate disclosures in accordance with the paid editing disclosure policy before editing any other topic.
- Finally, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:
- Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment, or
- With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button located above the edit window.
- This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 15:21, 18 April 2021 (UTC)
