I did not know 'hot and straight' (USS Tang (SS-306)) was a proper term—should it be put in quotes or italicized to show this? Is there a list of naval terms to reference? I did find a reference, Jeff Crowell maintains a glossary which includes 'hot,straight and normal' at http://www.combat.ws/S4/SAILOR/SAILOR.HTM ; as you can see he's maintained it for 17 years now so seems like a reliable link which could definitely come in handy. Italics are used in the rest of the article for proper names, how about we just define hot in parenthesis, like so: ...was observed running hot and straight ('hot' meaning the engine had ignited).
