Welcome to Wikipedia. Wikipedia invites everyone to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, but one or more redirects you created, such as with Round square copula, have been considered disruptive and/or malicious, and have been reverted or deleted. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to the encyclopedia. Thank you. DreamRimmer (talk) 16:15, 13 April 2023 (UTC)
Help me!

Please help me with... I recently merged the contents of Round square copula (sic) into Abstract object theory. I tagged Round square copula(sic) as PROD but that was rejected on the basis that the article simply be a redirect page. So, I updated Round square copula(sic) to be a redirect to Abstract object theory but that redirect edit was immediately removed as vandalism?? Can someone just help me understand what needs to happen so I can make Round square copula(sic) into a redirect? Thanks!
Also, please let me know if the VANDAL tag is connected to my profile and if there's a way to remove it. My edits can be reasonably interpreted as the work of a non-vandal so I'm hoping the vandal tag presents no material impact to my ability to edit in the future. Much obliged Non-pegasus (talk) 16:26, 13 April 2023 (UTC)
- You didn't provide an edit summary when redirecting the article, so someone looking at the recent changes didn't realize why you did that. I've turned it back into a redirect. There exists no lasting "vandal tag" that could be attached to your account, so nothing to remove. ■ ∃ Madeline ⇔ ∃ Part of me ; 16:41, 13 April 2023 (UTC)
- Hello, If you believe this redirect, which I have removed, was proper, you should include a convincing explanation in your edit summary. Because you are new to Wikipedia, you should consult with others before redirecting any old pages. I also observed the explanation of GB fan's most recent change: he advised you to take the consensus, but you were mistaken. DreamRimmer (talk) 16:48, 13 April 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you! I swore I referenced the merger in an edit summary for the redirect but I apologize for missing it. Non-pegasus (talk) 16:55, 13 April 2023 (UTC)
- Now that everyone has agreed to the redirect, I don't have an issue, but if you want to take my advice, you should provide a valid summary to prevent confusion. Happy editing! DreamRimmer (talk) 17:07, 13 April 2023 (UTC)
- Are you saying there is still a summary I need to complete?
- Maddy's already done the work and I will provide an edit summary in the future.
- Also, I'm unsure what you mean when you say I should "take the consensus." Non-pegasus (talk) 17:15, 13 April 2023 (UTC)
- There's nothing more edit-summary-wise to be done anymore. I have no idea what DreamRimmer means by "tak[ing] the consensus"; GB fan literally told you to redirect the page. There's also no policy or guideline about new users having to

; WP:BOLD, on the other hand, is a guideline. ■ ∃ Madeline ⇔ ∃ Part of me ; 17:55, 13 April 2023 (UTC)- That's why I did it, I didn't think I had to ask :) Thank you for clarifying Maddy, I went to the redirect you created and I will use its language as a reference for what I should be using in explanations from now on. Sandbox Issues
This help request has been answered. If you need more help, you can , contact the responding user(s) directly on their user talk page, or consider visiting the Teahouse. |
I was editing in my Sandbox and noticed at one point my edits simply stopped showing up in the preview. I saved my recent edits and they did not translate into the final result. :( I just restarted my computer and that didn't help. What's nice is that the changes are saved in the wikitext editing environment within my sandbox. Does anyone know what might be wrong? I did submit this to the Teahouse before realizing that is no longer an active space. Thanks! Non-pegasus (talk) 03:44, 15 April 2023 (UTC)
- The Teahouse remains active. It's not interactive chat like the IRC channel #wikipedia-en-help, but it remains active with most questions answered within a few minutes to hours.
- When changes stop showing up, it's often for mundane syntax reasons, such as an unclosed HTML comment, template bracket mismatches, etc. Restarting your computer may or may not cause your work to be lost; it depends on how persistent your browser is at saving the un-saved state of the editing page.
- When you add to a talk page, the convention is to add new sections at the bottom. That's where people know to look. Adding a section in the middle of the page is liable to cause it to be overlooked.
- You can always do a select-all then copy operation when looking at the source editor's editing window - then paste that into a plain text editor on your computer to save it. If you did that with your non-working edits-in-progress page, you could put that in a pastebin (Wikimedia offers a pastebin service at: https://tools.wmflabs.org/paste/ ) which creates a URL you could tell people about and they may be able to help more at figuring out what's not working for you.
- Oh, when you're talking about extensive overhaul of an article, use a named userspace draft instead of your sandbox. It will be handier. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 04:03, 15 April 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you!! It was indeed a mundane syntax error--I did not correctly format a re-reference in a citation, so my code thought all the text belonged within the citation itself (which was hidden). I'll keep your suggestion about the select-all/copy method in mind.
- I will keep your note about the Teahouse in mind as well; I'm glad it remains active.
- And I didn't even know about the userspace drafts, thanks!
- Much obliged! Non-pegasus (talk) 05:10, 15 April 2023 (UTC)
