Kony 2012 is not notable for inclusion on Wikipedia yet. Just because it has 2 million views on YouTube and 1 million friends on Facebook does not yet mean it is notable. Wikipedia is not a social network and it is not the place to promote your message, no matter how altruistic that message may be.—Ryulong (竜龙) 05:02, 7 March 2012 (UTC)
I'm not trying to 'promote a message' in anyway through this wiki, I'm editing a section of this page so that it is more factual. If you look at my edits they have had very little to do with the wording of that section and much more to do with giving it the proper referencing that it needed. In failure or success of Kony 2012 it is still to be considered notable to a wiki page about him. I'd say that the vast amount of views of the video highlight its notability although, as my editing suggests, this was not the only source that gives it notability. I think it qualifies under the terms of notability (if this is not so please say).Nome3000 (talk) 05:18, 7 March 2012 (UTC)
- The place to discuss keeping this article is at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kony 2012.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 06:06, 7 March 2012 (UTC)
He deleted it because you won the argument. But, yeah, stick to the AfD. Though, at this point, I don't think you need to do much with the AfD. I would say just focus on improving the article proper. SilverserenC 07:07, 7 March 2012 (UTC)
- This source should be useful as a general overview of the criticisms. Though I think other parts of the article needs to be expanded as well, since the criticism section is taking up half the article right now, which is a bit too much weight. SilverserenC 17:42, 7 March 2012 (UTC)
DYK for Kony 2012
[edit]On 28 April 2012, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Kony 2012, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that the website for the viral video Kony 2012 crashed after the video became popular worldwide, but the video went on to have tens of millions of page views on various websites? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Kony 2012.You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |
