Potential superpower - India

[edit]

Hello, I have responded to you concern. Nice Wiki page about yourself by the way. Heilme 10:37, 6 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. While the Wikipedia community appreciates your obvious efforts to increase the amount of information on the site, we'd like to point out our policy against original research and for citing sources for the information you provide. This increases the reputation of Wikipedia as a whole and aids in checking the factuality of that article. Werdna648T/C\@ 11:12, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Holi greetings. --Bhadani 13:57, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Nobleeagle, The edit on the tendulkar page was a little off NPOV. To say that it was one of his best series in recent times you need to cite some person or periodical saying it or it will violate NPOV. Anyway I too realised that no one had written that he was the man of the series of the world cup! Sometimes people catch the most minor mistake but the big ones are left alone!

WP:PINQ

[edit]

Hi, please watchlist WP:PINQ if you have not done so already, so that you can ask the person who answers your question correctly to go ahead asap. btw, I think it has been answered correctly. --Gurubrahma 13:24, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The same system has been working well for the cricket quiz - sometimes, there is a lull for 4-5 days, but that is ok. Obviously, we all will be charged up right now since this India quiz is new. However, I feel that the current system would prove all the more valuable when enthusiasm flags. I too felt frustrated for a while with the pace of things on cricket quiz, btw, before realising that it is working well. Also, since India quiz is very new, it is best not to tinker with rules for some time at least. Let's review the situation after a month or so. Some problems cannot be easily addressed due to time zone differences etc., but we'll try to work around them when we review it. Thanks for your interest in the quiz. --Gurubrahma 05:38, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I moved your charge re plagiarism to a new article I set up, just for giving the pros and cons of the charges. The main Bollywood article is already rather long.

The one problem is that you are going to have to give references to movie reviews claiming plagiarism. We aren't supposed to do Original Research here on Wikipedia, and setting up a "chat room" article to debate plagiarism would break our rules. If you can't come up with someone besides you who thinks it's plagiarism, the charge should really be deleted.

OK? Zora 07:46, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

NE, the problem is that we can't stuff everything in the main article. Charges of plagiarism in one minor recent film aren't the sort of thing that deserves mention in a grand survey of Bollywood. This keeps happening, however, and I thought that it might be a good idea to have a place for such "info", rather than deleting it. I agree that it's going to be hard to police that article. Can you think of another way to do this, OTHER than making the main article even longer than it already is? P.S. Have you signed up at Wikiproject:Cinema of India? That's the best place to discuss this matter; it will get the most input. Zora 23:26, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There is also an AFL Wikiproject here. Are you an Indian living in Melbourne? If you are then that means I'm not the only Indo-Australian here at Wikipedia. GizzaChat © 05:36, 24 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I knew you were an Aussie coz you say you follow AFL on your userpage. You also have American sports userboxes but its more likely that an Australian was into American sports rather than the other way around. Also I doubt CrikManager would be popular there. Foreign relations

[edit]

I've reviewed your edits. We need to summarise the foreign relations into just one paragraph.

  • Sino-Indian War: already mentioned in history
  • No need to add cricket diplomacy
  • India's good relations with the U.S.S.R. also strained its relations with the United States. -- makes no sense.
  • in President George Bush's visit to India in March 2006.. too specific an event.
  • India is known as a benign democracy, ... democratic beliefs.' -- Strong POV
  • India's rise to Superpower status -- India is not a superpower, and any talks of it is just speculative.
  • India has political relations with the United Kingdom not England :)
  • How do you define "good relations"?
  • led to a permanent connection with the Middle East -- what is meant by permanent connection? The only country that India had close ties in the Islamic world was Iraq when Saddam was in power. Most Islamic countries do support Pakistan on the Kashmir issue.

Superpower article

[edit]

Can you please be careful throwing the term vandalism around? In my view, this could only be vandalism if it was a decent article. As it is, the article is still mostly OR. If you can point me to a respectable reference for the definitions of superpower and hyperpower, I might change my mind. Thanks Guinnog 06:34, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re:219.78.172.189

[edit]

Hmm.. quite ironical. Albert Einstein once said "We owe a lot to the Indians, who taught us how to count, without which no worthwhile scientific discovery could have been made." Perhaps 219.78.172.189 is smarter than Albert. Besides, 219.78.172.189 seems to be an experienced Wikipedian (for example he knows to sign etc.). Anyways, I will put him/her in the category of trolls and just ignore his comments and revert his edits. If he reverts the page once more he will violate WP:3RR. Thanks --Spartian 08:33, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Irrespective of the 3RR clause, both parties are liable for action for making personal attacks on each other. Please remember not to make such attacks no matter what the provocation. Always support your statements quoting credible references. I failed to see a single credible listing on the talk:superpower article that supports your point of view. I noticed you reverted my qualifier about the US in Iraq. I appreciate that as I suspect it does not fit your POV. To revert in these circumstances shows great integrity. Thank you. Guinnog 02:23, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hey, thanks a lot for the "hello, shalom..." etc! I'm just curious, because I am new to editing, I added a comment to the Superpower [[1]] article and it disappeared only after a minute. Was it removed automatically or was it deleted for a reason (If so, I'd like to know to make better contributions in the future :) ). Thank you.

Regional Power

[edit]

I tend to draw a distinction between power wielded on the global stage and power on a regional level. Clearly, taking the Middle East as an example, Egypt is an important power regionally - but it has no meaningful presence on the world stage.

So I agree with your feeling - regional powers are the powers which dominate a particular region. In most cases (North America, Asia, Europe) the dominant regional power(s) will be one of the Super/Major powers. If however there is no major power nearby (eg. middle east, australasia and perhaps south america, depending on your view of Brazil) then one of the smaller nations may take this place. But my view is that the presence of a major power in a region automatically makes it the regional power.

Xdamr 13:17, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot for your heads-up re. your work on the Regional power page. I've taken a look and it all looks pretty sound stuff so far, I'll try and add a few bits and pieces to it over the next few days.

None taken

[edit]

I dont harbor hard feelings. And I was not really attacking you. However, I felt it as my civic duty to say what I said as their were some very unrespectful words said by you and spartian about an otherwise war hero of India. I admit that maybe some of my frustration towards Spartian was directed towards you. I hope that in future you are more hesitant about being disrespectful of a soldier. I apologize if I was too harsh. Regards --Blacksun 16:36, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Potential Superpowers: India

[edit]

Filth? Ohh no nothing like that. I love the Indian peoples and culture, I think they're brilliant (even sometimes I get upset that Indians are a little too willing to be subservient) I just think they stand little chance of getting Superpower status, for various reasons.

I mean take a small example of India's borders, for instance. Look at them. Big border disputes with Pakistan over Kashmir, but other than that, it actually borders China. Now, if China borders India and both of them are Potentials, then we have a very interesting und completely unpredictable scenario of whether it is actually at all possible for supepowers to share borders.

I mean, the United States and Soviet Union were not in the same region, and could gather a sizeable Sphere of Influence (which I believe to be the true key to superpower status). How on earth are India and China supposed to both gather sizeable SoI's when they border each other?

It's going to be a huge burden on both countries superpower ambitions and I don't think anyone's considered it yet. A severe disadvantage to have two huge, demanding superpowers growing up next door to each other. It's going to place a huge strain on resouces, demographics and may even lead to armed conflict.

The United States doesn't have this problem, and neither does the EU. I mean, of course there are other arguments, but this is an interesting one that has just occured to me.Trip: The Light Fantastic 16:30, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your user page

[edit]

Please note that your userpage is bad-aligned. The wikiproject box is not aligned with the structure of the page, and one has to use the scroll bar to see it. It does not fit with page, that is nice looking. The previous comment concerned what I saw using Firefox. I have just tried with Internet Explorer. It works properly with the latter browser. Anyway, note that about 10% of internet surfers use firefox, and that probably most of the wikipedians use/prefer firefox to IE (the mozilla project is open). gala.martin (what?) 03:59, 25 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Portal:India/Selected articles

[edit]

Regarding India SA, there are many articles in the list that are not related to India, rather universal. Also, there are some articles that, though related to India, do not meet the critera for India SA. I have nominated 2 such articles as SA removal candidates. IMO, their selection as SA in the first place seems to be biased in the sense that the topic, rather than the SA criteria, were given more importance. Please see and comment. This SA list needs urgent attention. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 14:06, 3 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Working on the Civilization IV page.

[edit]

You sent me a message when I anonymously edited (under IP 24.227.213.74) the Civilization IV page. I registered shortly afterwards. As a matter of courtesy, I ask you, would you mind if I looked over the article and edited your prose for clarity? If the answer is, "Yes, I would mind," then I'll happily leave you to complete the task without my involvement. Despite Wikipedia's insistence that all users should expect "ruthless editing," I have no particular interest in stepping on anyone's toes in order to prepare an encyclopedia entry about a popular video game. Since you'd unofficially taken control of any effort to improve the article, I felt it would be prudent to obtain your permission first, even if it supposedly isn't necessary.

Major power - Afd proposal on User_talk:Thames

[edit]

Quick heads-up - look on User_talk:Thames. Someone seems to be trying to stir up trouble for the Major powers page.

regards, Xdamr 00:41, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't realise things were going to move quite so quickly; I thought it was just some background chatter. I see Albrecht (who I don't recall having seen contributing to the article) seems to have quoted me with his 'honeypot for self-aggrandisement ...', feels nice to have helped him out! I am quite disappointed with the, for want of a better word, underhand way in which this has been done. They may have a point but their failure to give due notice doesn't look good.

Need help with Inter-Services Intelligence page

[edit]

I have been working on the ISI page for a while now. I added a lot of citations from various different sources and even from very anti-pakistan sources. I expanded the missions while also expanding the controversies surrounding the ISI and their role in Pakistan's internal affairs, Kashmir, war on terrorism, etc...

I have it up for peer review, but I haven't received much feed back. I was wondering if you could take a look at the article and point some flaws that exist in the article which I can correct before I post it for FAC status.

Major Power

[edit]

I just wanted to let you know that there's absolutely nothing personal about my recommending this page for deletion. I simply think everyone involved can do better work on the concept of Power in international relations without getting bogged down in an inescapable quagmire of OR. Obviously you take the opposite view, and I know it's a bummer to see a page you've worked on facing the axe, but I hope you won't think any less of me. Albrecht 22:44, 9 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'll echo that. I know you're a good editor and I've always found you civil and kind in my dealings with you. But I've been banging on for a month about the unsatisfactory state of the article (and the other Superpower-related ones. I don't think there is any point in trying to save the article, because the fundamental criteria it totally depends on are OR. Sorry. Guinnog 22:52, 9 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ta for the heads up on Major Power, think it'd be better as a merge/redirect with Great Powers as there is little difference to warrant a seperate article. However, that is as far as it goes and I've made that expressly clear. Trip: The Light Fantastic 00:19, 13 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
