Peer Review of Draft Article
[edit]I am writing my peer review here because I thought it might be simpler for you to see. I think that the changes that you made to your stub article are good changes and they enhanced the article as a whole. I think there could have been a little more background or length, but overall I thought that the article was beneficial to the article. I think that the goal and the intention of the article was clear and thought out, with good citations. (AbbieSchmidt (talk) 18:50, 1 June 2017 (UTC)).
Draft Article, California Governor's Office of Economic Development
[edit]The California GOvernor's Office of Economic Development, also known as GO-Biz was developed by Governor Jerry Brown to support current businesses and also promote future job growth. GO-Biz provides many resources and opportunities for businesses to be successful in California. To facilitate innovation and job growth in California, GO-Biz created an Innovation and Entrepreneurship unit. This unit was created to facilitate and promote innovation in the state of California. This department accomplishes this through the Innovation Hub (iHub) Program which is known as “the largest innovation in the country”. Its primary goal is to ensure that California is a place where ideas can be transformed into innovations in the market force. This in turn promotes job creation, boosts long term economic activity and attracts entrepreneurship in various economic sectors such as medical technology, information technology, agriculture and life sciences.
In efforts to promote entrepreneurship, innovation and job creation, GO-Biz has partnered with California’s higher education system such as the University of California. Events are held on many UC campuses where speakers have the opportunity to speak about topics of their choice as it pertains to business and innovation. Members of the events include but are not limited to: “venture capitalists, students, faculty, and local businesses”. Having a platform where likeminded individuals can discuss and explore creative ideas, “expands its potential to produce innovation that leads to new business growth”. This in turn maintains and expands California as an innovation leader and its competitiveness on both a national and global level.
1. Elaborate on Innovation and Entrepreneurship A. Vision and goals B. How they plan to achieve it C. The benefits of it for California
2. GO-Biz and UC System 1. Talk about the events 2. Discuss the members of the event 3. What do these events hope to achieve — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nneborak (talk • contribs) 18:14, 1 June 2017 (UTC)
Assign Article - What will you write about?
[edit]The article I have chosen is a topic that i'm highly interested in but is lacking a lot of information and details about what the California's Governor's office of Economic Development does. There is a brief description of it and demonstrates the units that GO-Biz has created in order to achieve its vision but does not elaborate on them in greater detail. I am hoping to elaborate on one or two of these units and go into detail as to what they do and its progress. I heard about the innovation series at on UCD campus and the events that are held, so far there has been great outcomes with these events. GO-Biz collaborated with the UC system to promote innovation and job growth so I feel like this is an important aspect to bring light to. I will provide factual and straightforward information that comes directly from the government website and UC website, that way there is no bias or misleading information.

Critique an Article, Community Economic Development
[edit]-Is each fact referenced with an appropriate, reliable reference?' The article does provide a good amount of credible resources but under the policies section there is not a single reference or under the obstacles section.
-Is everything in the article relevant to the article topic? Is there anything that distracted you? The article does a good job at providing information that is relevant and explains it in a very simplistic manner although it would be nice to expand on the dynamics of community economic development in todays modern world. CED is far more multilayered than what it used to be and more often it has to be viewed through a global perspective to better assist the issues on a local level.
-Are there viewpoints that are overrepresented, or underrepresented? I noticed there are some overrepresented viewpoints to community economic development. There is a lot of emphasis on building capital and jobs for community members, which is definitely a huge component to it, but it lacks other important aspects such as building livable communities or mixed use approaches to building communities.
-Check a few citations. Do the links work? Is there any close paraphrasing or plagiarism in the article? The links do work but one of the sources was from a ".com" webpage so it does not comply with the wikipedia source guidelines.
-Is any information out of date? Is anything missing that could be added? The article can further expand on the assets of a community and how that ties into community economic development. Understanding the assets of a community ultimately helps community developers to expand upon those assets but also helps them understand the gaps.
-Check the "talk" page of the article - what is the Wikipedia community saying about how to present this topic? How is the article rated in terms of Wikipedia's quality scale? The community provides a lot of positive feedback on the article and they state that the article does a good job at explaining CED in a straightforward way.
-What sections in this article are different than in the Community Development article? What new information or different information is presented in the two? This article is not as detailed as the community development article. The CD article does a great job providing the specific roles and approaches to CD where as the CED article provides a brief explanation of what CED is and its role in promoting jobs and businesses for the community.
Practicing the Basics, Community Development article evaluation
[edit]Practicing the basics: Community Development Article
Is each fact referenced with an appropriate, reliable reference: When reading through the Community Development article, I noticed there are a lot of areas where proper citation can be included. In the history section, which is an important aspect to discuss, does not provide enough citation to support its credibility and validity. It would be nice to see where the editor retrieve the information from.
Is everything in the article relevant to the article topic? Is there anything that distracted you? Most of the information provided on community development is relevant however there are a lot of repetitive explanations in regards to what community development is. However, I did enjoy reading how community development was originated and its meaning through out different countries.
Is the article neutral? Are there any claims, or frames, that appear heavily biased toward a particular position? The article seems to be neutral in the sense that it provides factual information about community development and its role from practitioners, grass roots organizations and from community members. There does not seem to be misleading information.
Check a few citations. Do the links work? Is there any close paraphrasing or plagiarism in the article? Looking through the reference list, the sources seem to be reliable but when I attempt to press on the link it does not direct me to the right source. It seems as though most websites are not active anymore so it is hard to determine how valid the information is.
Is any information out of date? Is anything missing that could be added? There is a lot of information about how community development originated from the 1920s up until the 1980s but I would have liked to read about community development in todays modern society and how they navigate through prominent issues that are most prevalent. Community development is such a wide field so its important to cover all aspects of it to understand its important role in todays society.
Check the "talk" page of the article - what is the Wikipedia community saying about how to present this topic? How is the article rated in terms of Wikipedia's quality scale? The editors in the talk page cover what I believe is missing in the community development article - the role of community development in todays society. It breaks down community development into smaller increments and does a good job of providing some valuable information about what community developers to specifically in the US and not just in the UK. They bring up points about economic development and planning and zoning which are important aspects to what a community developer might deal with. It also cut sections out that do not provide an accurate presentation of what community development is. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nneborak (talk • contribs) 17:45, 1 June 2017 (UTC)
