Um, there's nothing unique about being able to sing in male and falsetto voices. - - CobaltBlueTony™ talk 17:00, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
Sairam Iyer
[edit]Hi Ninadthackare,
The entire content of the article you posted was:
A Singing Sensation
Sairam gave his first public performance at the age of 8 years.
That's not enough for an article in an encyclopedia. You need to tell us where Mr. Iyer is from and what he is known for (just performing in public at age 8 isn't enough). See WP:MUSIC and WP:N. More importantly, you need to be able to support your claims with reliable independent source (see WP:V. If you can do those things, feel free to repost the article. But please don't keep posting a one-sentence article. Thanks, NawlinWiki 19:08, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

Hello, Ninadthackare, again let me welcome you to Wikipedia! I ran across the above article, and it had a number of issues with it, so I'd like to take the time to explain my edits to the article. Wikipedia is not like other sites you may have come across. First, it is an encyclopedia. Wikipedia has Core policies, such as neutrality, notability, verifiability, etc. What does all of this mean? Well, it means that any article on Wikipedia must demonstrate notability (meaning it must be note worthy, covered by the media, etc.), and have reliable, third-party sources (such as news media articles, magazine/trade journal articles) written about the subject, and the information given in the article must cite those sources to verify it is true. From those sources, information is summarized, paraphrased, condensed, and worded neutrally to make an encyclopedic entry (information cannot be copied from other sites). See Wikipedia's manual of style, layout guide, your first article, article development, and how to edit for assistance.
The article you have written was quite "flowery" in tone, not neutral, and did not use a format of footnotes used on Wikipedia. For example, just one sentence picked at random: "With this innate gift, he has maintained and developed an uncanny ability to reproduce on stage, the magical voices of his idols." You can see, this is not a neutral statement, it is an opinion, and rather glowing one, something that would be seen on a fan site, or perhaps in a glowing review, but not appropriate for an encyclopedia. As a result, I've removed the words that should be avoided, and flowery terms. I also converted the references into a proper format, although there are no article titles given, and there are no URLs given to verify the articles. I realize they were probably in Hindi, but it would be exceedingly helpful if you could find some online, English articles besides the two already given, to show the notability of the person. I did an online search, and could find no publications by reliable, third-party sources about the person, so I'm concerned that the person may not meet Wikipedia's notability criteria. If you could find sources to back up the statement that the person won an MTV award (I was unable to verify this), that would be quite helpful. I hope this helps you understand some of the things around here, and if you have any questions, feel free to ask, or visit the help desk. Cheers! Ariel♥Gold 11:16, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Nina, I got your note, thanks for leaving that so you're aware of the issues, and thank you for understanding! Sometimes it is difficult to edit neutrally, when we may personally admire someone, or be a "fan", so to speak, so I am glad that you understand the issues, and did not take my comment wrong, I only meant to help you, as I do remember how confusing Wikipedia is at first! If you have any questions at all, feel free to ask, and if I cannot answer, I can sure point you to someone who can. Cheers! Ariel♥Gold 00:10, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
