Welcome to Esperanza!
[edit]Welcome, Nihiltres, to Esperanza! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.
Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is Stressbusters, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.
In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Proposals.
If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact our administrator general Natalya by email or talk page. Consider introducing yourself at the Esperanza talk page! Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). If you're new to IRC, you may find help at an IRC tutorial. I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

Re:iPod template
[edit]Yes, I noticed that one the page after I made the edit :-P. Thanks for reverting it. I've added a proposal for a similar template to be created for mainspace at Wikipedia:Village Pump (proposals). If you are interested, please feel free to comment. Thanks for the well-wishes on the RfA!! - Mike | Talk 03:29, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
American vs British spellings.
[edit]Hi, I noticed your edits to Blue and Black, where you standardized the spelling of the word "color" within each article by using the British spelling of "colour," stating in an edit summary that this was the "more common" spelling. While standardized spelling within an article is encouraged, the choice of English variant depends not on what you or any individual editor deems "more common," but on what variant the first major contributor to that article chose to use. From the Manual of Style: Follow the dialect of the first contributor.
- If all else fails, consider following the spelling style preferred by the first major contributor (that is, not a stub) to the article.
So while you're doing good work, if you choose to continue making those changes, please follow that guideline. Thank you, and please let me know if you have any questions. | Mr. Darcy talk 02:01, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
- Fair enough. The original for blue is "colour", while black was mostly "colour" anyway. This (whole debate) is pretty ridiculous. I've learnt my lesson - people are too OCD about spelling differences to care whether you're just trying to standardize something to a decent standard. Nihiltres 02:21, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
- Oh, I see - what I meant in my edit summary by "more common" was "more prevalent in the article." Nihiltres 02:24, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
- It's a long-standing debate over linguistic imperialism. User:Zoe|(talk) 02:36, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

Colours
[edit]I know I have lots of colours on my user page, I find it a useful way to keep the codes easily to hand. I am not sure I see the problem with this, other than that my page presumably links to all of the colour articles with little useful purpose. Perhaps you can explain a little more, and a suitable solution can be found. :-) Guy 17:42, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
why are you messing with the "e" template Template:E and changing all of the sources that use it?
[edit]that's a very handy template and i, for one, would be unhappy if we couldn't use it. what do you plan to do with the Template:E? r b-j 01:49, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
- I'd like to change the template to a universal chemical element template that would deprecate all of Category:Chemical element symbol templates (see Sandbox|my sandbox), especially since there's an effectively redundant template at {{sn}}. I've been subst'ing instances of the template because it's a very simple template that should be subst'ed in general anyway. In addition, to use the template name for a different template, I'd have to change all of the references, so since that's something I'd like to do, I've been doing that. As for changing the page, yes, I screwed up while adding suggestion templates - seems to be fixed now. Thanks for asking - sorry if I may have been too bold in making a change. I'd suggest you reply to my posts at Template talk:e where I left messages before starting anything to discuss this more. Regards, Nihiltres 02:14, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
- yeah, maybe you're too bold about this particular thing. especially since there is no actual element with the sole E as a symbol. did you run this by User:Urhixidur? r b-j 02:26, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
- I'm referencing the word "element", not a non-existent element's symbol, to be clear. The template allows for the input of any element as a parameter. Check out the code. I'd put it at the word "element", but {{element}} already exists. No, I haven't run anything by Urhixidur (no notice to do so?), but I've been careful to only make changes at first that would be acceptable either way. Can you think of another name at which to place a universal chemical element symbol template, which would be short and clear? That would really help. In addition, does this mean that {{sn}} should be deleted or redirected? It and {{e}} are together redundant. Nihiltres 02:39, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
- why do you need to put in the universal chemical element symbol into your template? i see little need for it, but i see a great convenience in the present template definition. User:Urhixidur is the person who created the template you're changing to a completely different behavior. it is reasonable to believe that Urhixidur will be typing some WP article about physics somewhere, make use of this template, and discover it does something totally unexpected. that's when he will come and revert all of the effort you've done on it. this is not a good idea. at least not without making more of an effort to check with persons who created the template and who use it. r b-j 03:01, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
- Fine, I'll leave it as is. For the record, I think you misunderstand what the template I have designed does: it acts in the same way as any of the other chemical element templates, but happens to have been modified so that it uses a parameter that requires an element's name. It then outputs a linked or unlinked element symbol depending on what element and what format is given as input. I see a great potential use for this template, because it would deprecate (replace) all of the other related templates - there are more than 120. With an average of 5 transclusions per element, if all of the chemical element templates were redirected to the template I intend to create, it would immediately have more than 100 more usages than {{e}}. Since this template is clearly in active use, however, I'll need a different name under which to create it. Got any ideas? I'd appreciate hearing them. Nihiltres 03:21, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
- listen, i would suggest leaving a message at Urhixidur's page and seeing if he/she cares about it. perhaps your use of such a template (with a one-letter name, those have to be the most valuable) is better. i won't stand in your way. r b-j 06:30, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
- i just want to reiterate that i will not stand in your way if you change this Template:E. i just think you should at least let User:Urhixidur know that you're doing it. if opposition brews up, they can always revert the change and revert the usages that you replaced. but maybe no opposition will come up. r b-j 00:55, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

Re: My edit to Template:Unit of length which you reverted
[edit]Hi there. I noticed just now that you reverted my edit to Template:Unit of length. While I assume that you reverted it in good faith, I'm puzzled as to why you reverted it - my substitution of the template is in line with WP:SUBST. Can you explain your action? I will not, in the meantime, revert the template to the version I set it to, though I think that that should be done. Nihiltres 05:11, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, you're right.
- Coolhandscot 20:21, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
- O.K., I'm now reverting the template back to the subst'ed {{e}} version. Thanks - sorry if my change looked a bit funny at first. Nihiltres 22:59, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
