Deletion of your user talk page
[edit]Per WP:USER, user talk pages generally aren't deleted unless you are exercising your right to vanish, which it appears you aren't. I've undeleted your user talk page (obviously). Please contact me if you have any issues and I hope you come back refreshed from your break. Cheers. --MZMcBride (talk) 05:36, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
- Makes sense, however unorthodox. : - ) Thanks for the heads up. Cheers. --MZMcBride (talk) 04:23, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

Globant
[edit]Hi Nihiltres,
I wanted to add content to a page called Globant, but that page has been deleted because the content was considered as advertising.
I wanted to know if there is any way of checking the new content before posting, so I can avoid a new deletion
Thanks,
--WandaWeigert (talk) 14:32, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
- There's always the drawing board area, or you can simply create the article in a user subpage like User:WandaWeigert/Globant and then later move it to Globant if people say it looks good, or a combination of those approaches. You might also want to read Wikipedia:Your first article for an idea of what to do, and Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion for what not to do. Let me know when you post something - I'll take a look at it as well, though someone might beat me to it: I'm not on as often nowadays, as frustrating as that is. Nihiltres{t.l} 15:38, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for your answer. I have uploaded the content in User:WandaWeigert/Globant. Its under construction, but it would help to know if I´m in the right track. Thanks!! --WandaWeigert (talk) 16:29, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
Talking
[edit]I know we have not talked much since that Hannah Montana episode. We need more information on the new tour she doing know. write back. --Joekellyiii (talk) 23:42, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
- Well, aside from that I've barely heard of the show, if you need help, just let me know. :) Nihiltres{t.l} 13:23, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
Page deleted in Aug 2007: OK to reinstate?
[edit]Hi, a colleague uploaded a page called Harmonic Power which you deleted in Aug 2007 after no response to a Prod. He has been sick and has handed over all his work to me, asking me to find out why the page was deleted, and I traced it to you. I assume that you contacted him and he did not respond. Shall I reconstruct the page and re-submit it in my name? then I can deal with any challenges or Prods on his behalf.
Thanks in advance for your advice -
2008pat (talk) 13:13, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
- My concern here is that you say "colleague" - if applicable, be sure that you understand how businesses relate to Wikipedia by reading the business' FAQ. The page itself was deleted by prod, so there's no problem in recreating it if you want, though if it does not meet the same standards that the old page did not, it might be deleted again - but you suggest that you're ready for that possibility :). Sorry for the delay in answering - my internet time has been patchy lately and so I'm not as active as usual. Nihiltres{t.l} 13:32, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
New Semester, New Appeal
[edit]This semester I am teaching academic writing to a group of teachers at my school. This course starts on Monday Jan 28. I would like to know if you are still interesting in "mentoring". You can see the syllabus at Wikipedia:School_and_university_projects/ITESM_Campus_Toluca/SyllabusIf so, please leave a message on my talk page and update the mentor's page Wikipedia:School_and_university_projects/ITESM_Campus_Toluca/Mentors, if . If not, please remove your name and information from that page. Thanks! Thelmadatter (talk) 20:51, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
- Updated. :) Nihiltres{t.l} 13:36, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
I'm SO confused by this whole website
[edit]I love this website and wikipedia but, I'm having a real hard time understanding where to even begin. There are so many links redirecting just about anything that I am trying to get an answer on. Can you suggest the best place to start as far as getting a good amount of knowledge and direction in beginners language?
Thanks so much Xsivcrime (talk) 13:35, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
- There's a lot to learn - it can be confusing. I'm not sure where to start (what do you want to do?), but I have some suggestions:
- Wikipedia:Tutorial - the very basics
- Wikipedia:New contributors' help page - asking here will get you an answer quickly, unlike, say, posting to my page, which might take a few hours (or even days, I've been only semi-active lately, unfortunately)
- A supplement to this is the Wikipedia:Help desk, which might also be a good place to ask for help
- Help:Wikitext examples and Wikipedia:Cheatsheet both give examples of wikitext
- Wikipedia:Your first article - good place to start if you want to write articles from scratch instead of editing an existing one
- Those are what I would think of as the most basic things to check out. Don't worry about looking at them all - our rules include being bold (don't worry about doing something right) and ignoring all rules (as long as it helps the encyclopedia), and you can always ask for help - people around here are usually eager to help.
- One reference I use regarding Wikipedia, if I don't know where to find something, is the Editor's index to Wikipedia, which though long and somewhat confusing, is quite useful. It might not be useful for starting out, but if you need to find something, it'd be a useful place to start.
- If you have more questions, feel free to ask. I hope this answer helps :). Nihiltres{t.l} 15:32, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
Userboxes
[edit]Why did you delete the page that was located at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Userboxes? You didn't even replace it with a redirect. It was a great, centrally located launching point to locate various userboxes. Administrator or not, how can you unilaterally do this? It had no WP:PROD tag. It had no WP:SPEEDY tag. It had no WP:AFD tag. Your deletion seems completely arbitrary. Is that the power that comes with being an administrator? — SpikeToronto (talk) 21:48, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
I owe you a great big apology. I was confusing http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Userboxes with http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Userboxes, which is still where I left it at Wikipedia:Userboxes. Again, I apologize. — SpikeToronto (talk) 22:20, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
- No problem. :) Nihiltres{t.l} 22:26, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
Do you think it would be okay to create a page at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Userboxes and have it redirect to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Userboxes? Thanks! — SpikeToronto (talk) 09:31, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
- No, I specifically deleted the former because it was a cross-namespace redirect to the latter. It's a matter of avoiding self-references in the article namespace. That particular page has been deleted and recreated many times - upon deleting it I also protected it against creation. If there ever is a valid article to be created there, it can be unprotected and we'll add a {{selfref}} hatnote at the top of the page linking to the Wikipedia-namespace page. :) Nihiltres{t.l} 14:47, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
Your block of User:203.32.119.56
[edit]As soon as it expired, the vandalism has started again. See the contributions.LeadSongDog (talk) 05:03, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
- That's unfortunate, though I'm not going to pre-emptively block the IP again - there was a four-day gap between those bits of vandalism (which only started about a week after the unblock), and it's probably a shared IP, so I don't think it's worthwhile right now. If it becomes a problem, I'm sure the IP will be blocked. :) Nihiltres{t.l} 14:43, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks, just thought I'd point it out.LeadSongDog (talk) 17:21, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Template:User subpage notice
[edit]A tag has been placed on Template:User subpage notice requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.
If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{transclusionless}}</noinclude>).
Thanks. --MZMcBride (talk) 21:49, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
- No big deal, that template was made by request, so if it's not being used I don't mind it being deleted. Nihiltres{t.l} 21:52, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
Code
[edit]I think this is what you needed:
addPortletLink('p-cactions', wgServer + wgScript + '?title=' + wgPageName + '&action=purge', 'purge', 'ca-purge', 'purge', null, (document.getElementById('ca-watch') ? document.getElementById('ca-watch') : document.getElementById('ca-unwatch')));
Best, —Animum (talk) 00:06, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
- Hmm… it doesn't seem to work… :( Nihiltres{t.l} 00:54, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
- …but with the addOnloadHook bit, it works perfectly. D'oh. Thanks! Nihiltres{t.l} 01:05, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
Your tutorial
[edit]You volunteered to write a tutorial, per User:The Placebo Effect/Signpost tutorial. If you could finish it before the scheduled date in June, that would be good, because the dates listed on the schedule aren't really being followed, and there is - at the moment - only one finished, unpublished tutorial in the queue.
Thanks. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 16:24, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
- OK, I can probably get my tutorial up to speed reasonably soon. :) Nihiltres{t.l} 16:59, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
- Great - thanks! -- John Broughton (♫♫) 13:32, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
- Definitely advanced; not the sort of thing an average Wikipedian would use.
- I've done some copyediting, but feel free to change things (as usual) where you think I've misunderstood or pruned too vigorously. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 00:08, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
- The copyediting looks great, thanks! I've updated it to Advanced, and I might make some more little changes, but it looks about ready for whenever it's needed. Nihiltres{t.l} 02:33, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
Comment
[edit]Just dropping by to say I agree 100% with your post to the Citizendium's blog. Every other entry there now seems to be wikipedia bashing.. RIP-Acer (talk) 12:27, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks. I honestly think Citizendium's a decent project in theory, but Mr. Sanger needs to promote it on its own merits rather than over Wikipedia. Nihiltres{t.l} 14:20, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

My request for bureaucratship
[edit]Dear Nihiltres, thank you for taking part in my RfB. As you may know, it was not passed by bureaucrats.
I would, however, like to thank you for taking the time to voice your support, despite concerns cited by the opposition. Although RfA/B isn't really about a person, but more about the community, I was deeply touched and honoured by the outpouring of support and interest in the discussion. I can only hope that you don't feel your opinion was not considered enough - bureaucrats have to give everyone's thoughts weight.
I also hope that the results of this RfB lead to some change in the way we approach RfBs, and some thought about whether long-entrenched standards are a good thing in our growing and increasingly heterogenous community.
I was a little miserable after the results came out, so I'm going to spread the love via dancing hippos. As you do. :)
I remain eager to serve you as an administrator and as an editor. If at any point you see something problematic in my actions, please do not hesitate to call me out. ~ Riana ⁂ 11:42, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for your note also, appreciate it. :) ~ Riana ⁂ 11:42, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
adoption query
[edit]Hi (: I've been strolling around the adopter's page in the Adopt-a-User program (which I joined yesterday!), and I thought, since I'm pretty eager, I'd speed up the process a bit by asking a few people if they'd be willing to adopt me! I'm not technically a new user; I know the absolute basics of how this thing's done. However, I'm pretty interested in getting more involved with something specific like new page patrol. I saw that's one of your activities and I figured you could help me get started. (I just read some of the guideline pages about NPP and got a bit overwhelmed -- I want to do it all right!!) Basically, right now, all I do is a little bit of copy-editing where I can, especially with grammar and syntax and that sort of thing (I'm big on coherence). Umm... yeah, I think it would be best if I stopped rambling now. Thanks for your time! Ashley {talkback} 17:18, 10 March 2008 (UTC) (P.S.: Kudos on your slightly strange use of Latin.)
- Ok, just give me a little while, pretty busy in real life at the moment. I'll get back to you as soon as possible; or, more honestly, as soon as I have the energy. :p Hang in there, I'll be glad to help … soon. Nihiltres{t.l} 14:19, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
