That individual
[edit]You should probably bring it up on Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents or Wikipedia:Personal attack intervention noticeboard. He's clearly been trying to hide his past and make himself look to be the innocent and aggrieved party, when he's done nothing but be a thorn to everyone. Good luck with it. - Thanks, I've posted a complaint. No doubt he'll chip in with his usual diatribe sooner or later. Nick Cook 23:20, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
Adminship
[edit]Nick, just wanted to drop off a note to say that I thought you were a real class act when we disagreed the other day. I was recently letting off a little steam (courteously) in an AfD about how no one seems to be able to disagree with the idea and not the person on Wikipedia, and you were pretty much the only person that came to mind that was able to keep that distinction firmly in their head when we engaged in a debate.
I hit your edit count in the hopes you'd be in a 1500ish-or-more range, but with only 74 edits, unfortunately, there's no possible way I could nominate you for adminship -- hell, a lot of people didn't feel my 1,500ish edits at the time were sufficient when I went up for RfA myself. But give me a yell after you've been here a year or so and have an edit count in the generally-thought-about range (which seems to be 2,000ish), and if you keep up that sort of civility and classiness throughout your stay here, I'd actually be fairly honored to nom you for admin, if you're interested in same.
And, in the interim, throughout my time here I've discovered a lot of little doohickie tricks and whatnots, so if you want to throw me a question about policy or on how to accomplish something technically, give me a yell, and I might have an answer for you, or hopefully could at least point you in the right direction. — Mike • 15:35, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks Mike, I appreciate the offer. There's actually a few things I'd like to add to Wikipedia relating to the area where I live. Just a matter of finding the time. Nick Cook 17:23, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

First, I realized I realized the fact that the Wikipedia process for nominating new administrators was an awful, awful process that ensured nobody but the most generic, most evenly palatable individuals would get through. Just like how, with the American political system today, you’d have to be really fucking nuts to actually want to put yourself through the significant trials necessary to become a Congressperson, Senator, or President, and that’s why we’ll almost certainly never get anyone worthy of the job — well, same problem there at Wikipedia. To require candidates to be so inoffensive as to pass everyone’s personal homegrown metrics leads to inoffensive pablum. I realized that even had I tried again, I would have certainly remained unpalatable enough to the masses to once again not be passed through. And why would I want to be palatable to a process in which such bigoted opinions are perfectly acceptable?
I will tackle the easiest part of the question: why I want to excise Wikipedia from my life as a reference source. The unreliability of Wikipedia as a factual source has been addressed by many far more thoroughly than me — an example of a good essay on this subject is Jason Scott’s “The Great Failure of Wikipedia.” I see no need to simply repeat their efforts here. But for me, Jerry Holkins of Penny Arcade put it best when he described Wikipedia as “a kind of quantum encyclopedia, where genuine data both exists and doesn’t exist depending on the precise moment I rely upon your discordant fucking mob for my information.”
File permission problem with File:Poster200.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Poster200.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.
If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{permission pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. Here is a list of your uploads. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 15:11, 10 March 2023 (UTC)
