Hi

[edit]

Thanks for your message. Happy with all of that. Not sure about the link; I can't remember editing WT:FC. Do you mean WP:TLDR? Or do you mean a version of my User:Dweller/weekend message that I vary from time to time (check its history)? If you're referring to one of my essays, they're all listed at User:Dweller/quirky --Dweller (talk) 20:24, 4 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mumbai forts

[edit]

Hi Nichalp, the problem is that looking at existing GA-class articles, the following "fort" articles have GA: Smederevo Fortress, Fort Greble, and Fort Pasir Panjang; and if we look at "castles", the following have GA: Aberdour Castle, Craigmillar Castle, Doune Castle, etc.

Considering the Mumbai forts, then Belapur Fort, for instance, comes out quite badly in comparison as its only citation is a newspaper article. I am still looking at Mahim Fort, which has slightly better citations, this one for instance [1] appears to be good. I have one article on my bookshelf that vaguely covers this area: Nelson, W.A. (1990). "European colonial fortifications on the shores of the Indian Ocean", In: Fortress: The Castles and Fortifications Quaterly, Issue No. 4., ISSN 1-85512-004-6., pp.13-22, but that is not usable as a reference in any of the articles. I think there are several books covering the history of the Portuguese and British occupations of India that are better in-line citations that newspaper articles. (to be continued) Pyrotec (talk) 16:07, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I suspect that at present, you could probably improve the citations used for the Portuguese and British historical aspects of fort construction and you might be able to add some photographs illustrating the geometry of individual forts, but this will not bring them up to GA standard. That will not happen until better citable information is available. Sorry to impart this bad news. However, within WikiProject India, or other projects you can still classify them as B-class, etc, according to local project definitions; they just will not get through GAR and FAC. One way forward might be to write an article on all the Mumbai forts and link in the individual farts using {main}. That way you can cover the individual builders and the Portuguese and British invaders. By looking at the development of weapons, such as cannon and gunpowder, it becomes obvious that the forts have become obsolete due to developments in weapons. This was one of the problems in Europe with Palmerston Forts in Britain in the 19th century. I will look to see what information I can obtain from my local university library.Pyrotec (talk) 17:14, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I put Castella de Aguada on hold; the GA review is here. However, I agree with the above - you need more content in these. —Ed 17 (Talk / Contribs) 22:51, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Google books entry with Belapur There will probably be other bits and bobs on Google and probably at the local state or university library and what have you. YellowMonkey (bananabucket) 03:31, 8 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:BRO-logo.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:BRO-logo.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. βcommand 05:23, 8 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Kalimpong

[edit]

I have nominated Kalimpong for a featured article review here. Please join the discussion on whether this article meets featured article criteria. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. If substantial concerns are not addressed during the review period, the article will be moved to the Featured Article Removal Candidates list for a further period, where editors may declare "Keep" or "Remove" the article's featured status. The instructions for the review process are here.YellowMonkey (bananabucket) 05:27, 8 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Did you use some books while developing Kalimpong? It is really tough to get online refs for the town.--Dwaipayan (talk) 01:33, 9 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Any chance that you still have the book and provide some references? It's much tougher than Gangtok because in case on Gangtok, we had some extensive reports published by the Sikkim government, which were essential in referencing. In case of Kalimpong, we do not have such an extensive and authoritative source :( --Dwaipayan (talk) 19:33, 9 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reorganization of Indian villages

[edit]

Hi. I have been overlooking the work that Tinu has been doing for some time with Indian villages and we think the best solution is the split villages by district for the whole of India as I see a number of states have already started doing like Category:Villages in Andhra Pradesh to better organize the system and to get some consistency. I have no quabbles with using lower casing for "district" after seeing your thread back in 2006 on it but one thing I think should be done is to empty the categories on villages by state and split them by district like I plan on doing with Category:Villages in Kerala for a start given that soon there will be thousands of villages by state if not already. One small problem howveer is that you have programmed your Indian Jurisdiction templates to place articles in the gneeric state category. Given that we are tackling one state at a time do you think you can adjust the Indian Jurisdiction templates so it doesn't place articles into automatic categories or get it to read the district instead of the state? For example Achickal should not be categorised as "Villages in Kerala" but by its district, Category:Villages in Kottayam district only. Can you fix this?

(ec)Yes Nich, can you help here. The idea is not to have state cats if district is available. The new cat shud be f the form :Category:Villages in <District> district .Right, Blofeld ? -- Tinu Cherian - 13:34, 12 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It is something to do with the documentation e.g

<!-- ---->|village = {{#ifeq:{}|Andhra Pradesh|{{#ifexist:Category:Villages in {} district||}}|}}

Basically it needs to read name of district not state

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Techno-park-logo.svg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Techno-park-logo.svg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:21, 13 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This article currently does not have the criterias to be maintained as an FL. If I still do not believe that this article has FL criteria in 4 days, I will be nominating it for featured list removal. Good luck and cheers. -- SRE.K.Annoyomous.L.24[c] 22:05, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The lead is too short, the states and union territories should be removed from the top, there should be a key because there are abbreviation on the list, and the article itself should be cited with more internet sources. -- SRE.K.Annoyomous.L.24[c] 04:12, 15 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ROFLMAO... ok... I need to get my head out of my US-centric butt... I saw this headline come up, and immediately wondered, "What Indian state and union territory capitals?" I didn't think Indians were that structured to have state or territory capitals per se!---Balloonman PoppaBalloon 19:18, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmn, maybe List of state and union territory capitals in India? =Nichalp «Talk»= 15:41, 20 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Technically, the title is correct, but it WILL create some confusion for people who see Indian and think American Indian first. I don't know if that is enough to change it, or if it is an argument to keep it... sometimes, we yanks need a kick in out buttocks to remember that we ain't the only one's here ;-)---Balloonman PoppaBalloon 07:33, 23 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I know, but as far as categorisation is concerned we use "...in India" or "...of India". When both titles are technically correct, we prefer the less ambiguous one. Rarely do we use Indian in categories. =Nichalp «Talk»= 11:33, 23 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, now that you mention it, the in India is a lot more clear as to what you are talking about. Support changing name---Balloonman PoppaBalloon 06:34, 24 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

username change request

[edit]

Good day to you Nichalp,

You had a question about the username change I requested on Wikipedia.

PMP Collaboration is a project for the user community to progressively elaborate on the processes that make up the 5 process groups of initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, and closing in project management.

The project work will be performed on the PMP Collaboration page by the user community with their own usernames. The index would look something like...

Process Group Name#1

Inputs.... Tools and Techniques... Outputs...

Process Group Name#2

Inputs.... Tools and Techniques... Outputs...

Process Group Name#3

Inputs.... Tools and Techniques... Outputs...

Process Group Name#4

Inputs.... Tools and Techniques... Outputs...

Process Group Name#5

Inputs.... Tools and Techniques... Outputs...

Wiki is a project in its own right and these process groups are being executed by the user community as they develop their own pages. I do not think this is a role account. Its a project for the user community to progressively elaborate on what they believe to be the absolute definitions of the inputs, tools, techniques and output process of project management.

Thank you for your consideration. —Preceding unsigned comment added by PMP Study Group (talkcontribs) 17:51, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just because an image is potentially explosive, it does not mean we cower down to extremist elements. - I'm not sure what you mean here, but on the face of it, it certainly does not look pretty. I'm not sure that it was your intention, but it does give the appearance of you terming a faction of editor(s) "extremist elements". Other editors, for whatever reasons... have the right to disagree with you, but that does not mean it is becoming of an editor like you to call them "extremist"s. I suggest you remove or reword that sentence. Sarvagnya 21:04, 23 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nice question! Well you can check my contribs... I am spamming friends with Christmas greetings! N hey, what are you up to? Celebrating a virtual Christmas day? You should be partying...merry-making...a lil' bit of rum and whiskey! --KnowledgeHegemony talk 20:34, 24 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You stay in Colaba, Mumbai, right?? Has 26/11 affected the Christmas celebrations in any manner? Personally, I feel all festive celebrations should 'never' be mellowed down...rather should be as planned...that would give terrorists a befitting answer..."you don't affect us so go screw urselves".--KnowledgeHegemony talk 20:47, 24 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Request move: Mayawati Kumari --> Mayawati

[edit]

God knows who came up with this name? Even the offcial government website states her name as Mayawati. Can you perform this move. Maybe some sycophant supporter! --KnowledgeHegemony talk 18:17, 26 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Parichha

[edit]

Yesterday I edited Parichha page, its a town near Jhansi in UP, but on saving it showed a NAZI flag, somehow I managed to revert my edit but still it is showing Nazi flag (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Flag_of_Germany_1933.svg) on whole of page i.e. its covering whole of display area and one can only see WP Logo (the globe) everything else is covered by this flag including 'article, discussion, edit this page, history, watch etc tabs. Interestingly this flag is not referred in the page, could be the case of some bug in WP (it shouldn't be local machine's Virus as I cross-checked with 2 diff machines). Pl check. Thanks, Vjdchauhan (talk) 06:55, 27 December 2008 (UTC).[reply]

Its resolved, thanks for your help. Vjdchauhan (talk) 18:31, 28 December 2008 (UTC).[reply]

Request to move article List of Indian state and union territory capitals incomplete

[edit]

You recently filed a request at Wikipedia:Requested moves to move the page List of Indian state and union territory capitals to a different title - however your proposal is either incomplete or has been contested as being controversial. As a result, it has been moved to the incomplete and contested proposals section. Requests that remain incomplete after five days will be removed.

Please make sure you have completed all three of the following:

 1. Added NewName at the top of the talk page of the page you want moved, replacing "NewName" with the new name for the article. This creates the required template for you there.
 2. Added a place for discussion at the bottom of the talk page of the page you want to be moved. This can easily be accomplished by adding to the bottom of the page, which will automatically create a discussion section there.
 3. Added to the top of today's section here.

If you need any further guidance, please leave a message at Wikipedia talk:Requested moves or contact me on my talk page. - JPG-GR (talk) 14:24, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey!

[edit]

Though I just supported the move I am a little apprehensive. What about

Should we rename them to? --KnowledgeHegemony talk 17:30, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
