Some explanatory notes on the proposed changes in this draft article

Hi editors, I thought I'd include some explanations for the changes made in this draft to help guide the conversation. I'll go section by section here. I've also updated/fixed/rescued/replaced references as needed and made sure naming conventions are consistent throughout the article.

Infobox

Changes include:

Updating the various figures with the latest numbers
Adding "Jr." to Armando Pimentel's name to accurately reflect his name
Changing "Products" to "Services" and adding new information there
Changing "Divisions" to "Subsidiaries" to more accurately reflect the company organization and removing companies that fall under those subsidiaries

Introduction

Changes include:

Adding an initialization to be used in the article
Clarifying the type of company
Updating generation capacity
Clearly showing why the company is notable (it is the parent of two large utility companies)
Removes the bit about market capitalization
Removes other subsidiary companies to keep the introduction more focused
Removes much of the information about FPL and NEER's generation methods as that seems to me to be more appropriate for the introductions of those articles and the body of this article
Updates the Fortune 500 ranking and removes a primary source
Removes all citations from the intro per MOS:LEADCITE

Company overview

This adds a section collecting information about generation methods and operational details of the company. This serves the dual function of replacing the current Corporate affairs section and Finances subsection.

Corporate history

Changes include:

Changing heading to "History" for simplicity
Combines the content of this section with the current Mergers and acquisitions section to significantly expand the section
Adds new content to flesh out the company history
Removes unnecessary Politics subheading and integrates content into the timeline
Combines much of the content in the Litigation and Criticism sections into the new History section per WP:NOCRIT and WP:STRUCTURE.
Rewrites content from those sections, including:
- Litigation–New Hampshire Transmission
  - Better explains what happened
- Litigation–Nuclear Energy Institute
  - Trims content per WP:TMI and paraphrases quotes. Also adds the resolution of the situation
- Litigation–Tax deduction
  - Trims content per TMI and removes quotes per MOS:QUOTE
- Litigation–Oklahoma wind turbines
  - Trims content per TMI and what sources say. Also adds resolution and removes a bit about eagle fines that is not accurate and sourced to a questionable source
- Criticism–Avangrid
  - Significantly trims content, removes biased language that does not meet WP:NPOV, removes quotes and better paraphrases source material. I recognize this is a pretty substantial change to the content and welcome further discussion.
- Criticism–Solar power ballot initiatives
  - Largely removes this content as it is most directly related to (and discussed in) the Florida Power & Light article. I've retained the portion related to Jennifer Bradley where sources mention NextEra Energy by name. Also removes content that is quite close to the source material, with the last paragraph of this section being mostly copied from the cited CNN article.
- Criticism–Florida legislature candidates
  - Removes all of this content. Sources do not tie this to NextEra, but to FPL. It is not relevant to the article about NextEra and was copied over from the FPL article. The one current source that does mention NextEra is from an advocacy group, not an independent news organization. Most of the content in this section isn't relevant to FPL either and is mostly about the actions of Frank Artiles.
- Criticism–Environmental issues
  - Moore Haven plant – That, again, was FPL, not NEE. Sources do not mention NEE, and as such that content is most appropriate in the FPL article
  - Martin County activists – That, again, was FPL, not NEE. Sources do not mention NEE, and as such that content is most appropriate in the FPL article
  - Nuclear waste cleanup tax reduction – This is repeated information, and has already been covered in the draft
  - Turkey Point clean up costs – That, again, is FPL. It's also not accurate. The source used in the article is an advocacy group that misrepresented a story by The Palm Beach Post which notes that FPL asked for regulatory approval to charge customers for cleanup costs. The Supreme Court is never mentioned in the source used for that section, nor is it mentioned in the Post.

I'm planning to make Talk page requests on the NEE article itself for each of these changes, but hopefully this will give interested editors an overview of what I hope to achieve. NextEraMatt (talk) 18:35, 23 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
