Wikipedia:Date formatting and linking poll
[edit]Hi,
I took the liberty of deleting your comments at Wikipedia:Date formatting and linking poll. The policy of the poll is that the vote zone is only for clear votes. You appeared to indicate that your support vote was no longer valid but you hadn't moved your vote to the oppose section. Thus the net effect was zero. If you do wish to vote, feel free to try again in the appropriate section. Regards Lightmouse (talk) 11:57, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Image deleted even though I sent a permission notice
[edit]Hi Neurolysis, I recently uploaded an image titled Melissa_McClelland_Pink_Umbrella.jpg and received a notice from you to have the copyright owner email a letter of permission to permissions-en@wikimedia.org - The copyright owner sent an email, following the template provided at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:CONSENT - however the image was removed anyway. Are there other steps I should have taken that I failed to perform? I'm not sure why it was deleted - I'd like to get it back up, and to upload other images, so if you could tell me what else I need to do that'd be very helpful. Thanks! [edit]Hey Neuro. I saw your post here. I'm glad you noticed the page. I wanted to come ask you about it, but wasn't sure how to approach the subject. I know that religion, beliefs, and non-beliefs are a subject that can be difficult to discuss given the global diversity of the matter. I'd kind of like to do more in this area, and didn't know if you'd be interested in offering an opinion. There's the beginnings of a discussion on the WP:RIP talk page, I'd sure be interested in any thoughts you'd care to offer. Compliments
[edit]I read this page some time ago, and was reading it again very recently. I wish to say that I think you've really improved over these last few months. I remember opposing your last RfA (no, I'm not trying to make you re-live that experience!), but since then you have become an even greater user than before. While I don't expect it to be for some time, I can see myself supporting your next RfA, assuming you continue your improvements, which I'm sure you will. You're experienced, polite, do great work wherever you're active, and are a helpful editor; great qualities in any user. Very best wishes. Acalamari 17:20, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
- You're welcome. :) Regarding your next RfA, I merely assumed that based on the current RfA standards and atmosphere you were waiting a little longer before running again. I don't believe you're "missing any issues" at all, as you've done a very good job in addressing past concerns. It is, of course, totally up to you when you run, and I'm not someone who opposes based on a "not enough time since last run" basis. Best wishes. Acalamari 17:46, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
- In all fairness, I didn't realize it's been seven months since your last RfA: I actually thought it was more recent (I didn't check the dates). No, seven months is not too short, and even under your circumstances, that amount of time is reasonable, and it's even more reasonable as you have admitted you've made mistakes and have worked to improve them. My original comment on time, however, was that I wasn't expecting an RfA straightaway (i.e. running right now), with no prejudice towards an RfA that begins a few days or more from now. Not that I would oppose if you suddenly went for RfA now; I'm not bureaucratic in that way either. :) Acalamari 17:59, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

Chris- I am really upset. I spent a month and a half trying to get this article just right. for three years no one bothered with it.now its on watchlists because i made too many non-free files not knowing at first they're limited. please help. i need the image in the article you fixed today. Car and Driver Vega GT -0 it was deleted speedy because i did another file after a discussion and first one was deleted. comments have been in discussion- replacable images available, violates copyrights, etc. its a photo from a 1975 car and driver article of a vega in a race leading the race on the last laps. the subsection is about that particular vega winning the race. it's a historical photo of a historical vega that won a race. it can't be replaced. i'm getting worn out trying to convince that the text is not enough. the image is needed of the car to improve the article. please help. can you allow it to stay or can another administrator delete it. it was deleted after a discussion then again after made another file. why is it so difficult to keep this image. i included a rationel, reduced size, its not off the web. its a scan of my magazine photo. TOC question
[edit]How did you get that nifty slide-bar table of contents? Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots 11:02, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
- OK, I put it at the top of my talk page (you can't see it, I'm only in preview mode) and the slidebar is all the way to the right, pushing my archive down. How do I fix it so it's like yours? I couldn't find that coding in your talk page, so I'm guessing it's embedded elsewhere. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots 11:19, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
- I just saved it, so you can tinker with it if you're willing. Just don't get too fancy or obscure. I'm technologically challenged.
:( Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots 11:23, 8 April 2009 (UTC)- "Fail moar"? I don't speak British. :) Well, that centers it but it still pushes the archive down. I'd like the archive opposite the TOC, as you have it. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots 11:31, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
- Or is that French? I definitely don't speak French. Except for the parts that William of Normandy brought with him. Thanks for your help. I think I've got it the way I want it, on the left instead of centered, and opposite the archive. The "clear" was because the items below it were being interferred with by the items above it. Maybe there's a more elegant way to do that, but "clear" accomplishes the task. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots 11:47, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
- A "failbrowser"? Well, it's IE 6. The other nifty thing would be the search feature on the archive. However, you're using an archiving template and doing autoarchiving and such, and I don't think that would work for me. It's OK the way it is, just that the search feature and the 2 photos together probably won't work unless I design my own template, which seems like overkill. - You're designing my own personal archive template? You're awesome. And all because I voted "support". Bribery does work. :) Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots 11:58, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
- You did it without getting too fancy-schmancy, and it looks perfect now. Thank you! And in theory, I don't even have to list the archives - the search by itself should be sufficient, yes? This is how I learn this stuff - incrimentally. By the time I'm 93 1/2 years old, I should have it all figured out. :) Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots 12:13, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
- It's true that they would need to know what to search for. But unless others are using the archives (and I've very seldom been called on anything in those pages), it's mostly me, and the way the archives are, previously I've had to open each one and look for a topic. Now I won't need to do that anymore. So I might as well just have the search and nothing else. :) Worth thinking about, anyway. :) Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots 12:23, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
- Just so we're {{clear}} on this, there's no question that others do use the archives, but typically just for something they can use against me. :) And since they'd be searching for a topic, this would actually help them too. Always glad to accommodate the trolls. Right before I have them indef'd. >:) Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots 12:28, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

OK, just one more thing. How come every time I come to your talk page, there's a different background color? Must be another trick. Not something I would use, I'm just curious. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots 12:24, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
- OK, so it must be something fancy-schmancy. To be really mean, you could occasionally use black as the background color. >:) Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots 12:29, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
- No question your color schemes are tasteful. More to the point, they're readable. Sometimes you see a solid red background or some such, which is nearly impossible to read against. Your choice of pastels is most commendable... commendible... commendble... whatever it is. But for April Fool's Day, maybe at random during the day, you could convert it to black and then most or all of the writing would be invisible. - No question your color schemes are tasteful. More to the point, they're readable. Sometimes you see a solid red background or some such, which is nearly impossible to read against. Your choice of pastels is most commendable... commendible... commendble... whatever it is. Car and Driver Vega GT #0
[edit]Chris- It shows the Vega about to win the race. I want it in the article because it captures a a precise moment in time.. it's very simple. the text can not give this effect and is not as effective without it and does increase readers understanding of this moment in time with an image of the car... how can i dispute it with the image now deleted? you know which one? you fixed it twice. Your application for Adminship
[edit]During my 5 years on Wikipedia, I have read some lying hypocrisy, but the lies and myths perpetrating from you are probably the most gross. I never commented on your newspaper blogging and slurs upon me until now, considering you, rightly, to be unworthy of my time and attention. I see now here [3] that you now want to be promoted to Adminship. You are completely unworthy of ever becoming an Admin - you must never be allowed to have any authority here over anyone. You are not a person to be trusted. Stay off my page and keep your bloody and far too belated unworthy apologies for the blog where you told your lies. Giano (talk) 07:16, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
- Giano, I made a mistake, and I am more than happy to be held accountable by the community for what I have done. I messed up, and I accept that. I have tried my hardest to rectify the situation, or at least to aid it in apologising (which, I still maintain, I believed I had done before).
- Everyone has made mistakes. I would be willing to bet that anyone reading this has made some mistakes at some point or another. That doesn't change the seriousness of the incident, but it is at least an assurance that I believe the incident to simply have been a lapse in judgment and character, and not a lapse into an older alias, of which avenue I will not proceed, if not simply because it bears no fruit.
- I am ready to be castigated. — neuro(talk)(review) 10:48, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
- Let's not do that. You might want to have a deep voice someday. :) I myself have never made any mistakes. No, I take that back. I made one. I ran for admin. :) A mistake which, believe it or not, some have asked me to repeat. Hang in there! :) Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots 10:53, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
- You have never made the slightest effort to appolagise here or more importantly at the scene of your lies. You are obviously either an habitual liar or a self dellusionist, either way you can in no way be trusted in any respect. Giano (talk) 11:42, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
- Actually, I did. "My comments were out of order and wrong, and I expect no less than to be held accountable for them. For the record, I think Giano has the best intentions of the project at heart, and I don't know entirely what I was thinking at the time I posted those comments [...] I sincerely apologise to Giano for saying things which were neither correct, nor justifiable [...] I screwed up on a large scale, and I am ready to be held accountable for it".

[edit]In your current RfA, you said "My last RfA was not easy to endure for me. It meant embracing that I had been acting in a way which I do and even then did resent." I mean they wrote it like an advertizement (ignoring the image). I do my best not to advertize, which I find hard as I have so much wonderful information infront of me, at home & pure experience from working at Samsung (SECA<-Canada) & Lorex. I try to leave out model #'s, Company name, unnecessary specs (as in very specific specs in my writtings to avoid compairing products).. I leave all that for the 'ref', so I'm not advertizing. I'm educating people on what types of technologies are out there (old and new)... well, I try too anyways
Also, What they wrote is almost (I don't know what some of their terms mean, so I'll have to research them) identicle to what Remote easy connect network settings is.
But becuase they wrote it like an advertizement I didn't want to touch it without getting an ok.
I hope that made sence as my brain is still in sleepy mode (was on vacation for a week)

The chief difference seems to be that the Commons gadget will shrink an image down to 300px if necessary before searching TinEye for it. I don't know the history here -- maybe they found that they got more matches that way? Anyway, I present it here so we can figure out the best thing for the gadget to do, and to consolidate unnecessary work :-) Thanks! Tim Pierce (talk) 13:34, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
RfA comment
[edit]I hope (and believe) that your post about "Antagonistic comments" was not directed at me. I have gone to great lengths to exhibit restraint, and to AGF at all times. In fact, during the early days of the discussion, I actually supported the effort. The only reason I am asking clarification on this is because your thread directly follows my comment about adjusting the closing time and date on that talk page. When it first went live - it showed as "expired", and I didn't want to become involved in manipulating the RfA in any way, shape, or form. I'm pretty sure I know you well enough to know that the comment was directed at some of the more acerbic posters in the RfA, but I just wanted to make sure that my own comment wasn't taken the wrong way. ;) — Ched : ? 14:09, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Image permission problem with Image:Triconegravir1 big.jpg
[edit][conversation copied from User talk:Andrewa]
Thanks for uploading Image:Triconegravir1 big.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the image (or other media file) agreed to license it under the given license.
If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the GFDL or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the image to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the image has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the image's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Images lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — neuro(talk) 11:00, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
- What do you mean, no proof? I did indeed send the permission email to the Wikimedia copyright permissions address and this fact is documented. Furthermore the documentation is linked to from the image page. So the reason given for deletion is completely bogus.
- In cases where there is a license, but its validity is disputed, deletion should proceed through WP:FfD, certainly not speedy deletion. Hairy Dude (talk) 17:06, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Question
[edit]Before I get to my question, a comment on your recent picture recently added picture now adorning your user page. Even though I don't agree that an RfA candidate should be judged upon his or her physical age, I may have to reconsider that ... lol.
Anyway, after I replied to your comment at the RIP verification discussion, I'm now in need of information. What is a GOST string, and where can I read about it ... wait, let me look for "GOST" and WP:GOST frist .... nope, don't see how "Euro-Asian Council for Standardization" standards apply (although they might...lol). What is it, how does it work, and where can I get one. Cheers. ;) — Ched : ? 22:18, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

Administrator impersonation?
[edit]I had a admin template on my page? I'm sorry I didn't know. I didn't add it but I do use school computers to access my account. If some one screwed around with my user when I wasn't looking I am very sorry. This won't happen again. Thanks for the heads up. Skeletor 0 (talk) 15:36, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
