Roy Willard Blankenship

I had to immediately delete the Roy Willard Blankenship page you created. Basically, as far as I could tell and based on what you wrote on the talk page, what you did is copy and pasted the contents of 3 or 4 news articles onto Wikipedia. Unfortunately, that is not acceptable, even for a short period of time. Those news articles are all copyrighted, which means that they cannot be copied onto Wikipedia. Instead, we must take the information in those articles, pick out the encyclopedic content, and summarize them. It's not just about changing a few of the words, or putting the different stories together--rather, our article must be written fundamentally differently than the sources (even though it contains the same information). If you don't feel that you have the ability to do so, the correct thing to do is to go to WP:Article requests, add the request there, and give links to the sources you think should be used. Alternatively, you can try writing the article yourself at Wikipedia:Articles for creation, but, again, you still can't copy and paste the info from other pages. Copyright is a pretty serious issue here, so we have to be sure to avoid doing it in all cases. If you need help, please leave a message here and I'll be glad to answer your questions. Roy Willard Blankenship - Response to page deletion

I appreciate your time to respond to the recent article additions on the page entitled Roy Willard Blankenship. I am new to the Wikipedia editing circle and many of the specific guidelines are procedures are foreign to me. However, I pasted the recent content with the hope that another user could transform the facts provided to create a useful page for others to access. I fully understand and respect the copyright issue and I appreciate individuals who have the time to perform extensive editing on this site. Unfortunately, I am extremely busy with my own profession and have little time to invest in the Wikipedia editing circle. Thanks again for your respone and I appreciate your work on Wikipedia.

Thanks NeilATL. I looked back now at what you wrote (admins can still see deleted material), to see if I could transform it into an article. Unfortunately, at this point, I don't think I can, because even though I could re-write the info to get rid of the copyright problems, I think the article would eventually be deleted anyway on notability grounds. When we decide whether or not a person who is notable only for his/her criminal acts, we follow the guidelines listed at WP:CRIMINAL. I don't see any particular reason why Blankenship meets those criteria--the crime wasn't particularly unusual, nor the victim particularly famous. This is not to say that it wasn't a tragedy (either the original crime or the later execution), but that Wikipedia sets a little higher standard on who can have a separate article.
